Decent summation of the Anglo-Dutch wars. Damned little about naval battles or ships.

Those are modern Dutch flags. At the time, the Dutch flag was orange, white, and blue.
@Hansjoh21

No, both flags were used. Even the double red-white-blue for naval ships is correct.

@@MatthewZiegler Ay, from Wiki: The Dutch navy between 1588 and 1630 had always displayed the Prince's Flag (orange-white-blue), and after 1663 always the States Flag (red-white-blue), with both flag variants being in use during the period of 1630-1662. So in this video about the second and third Anglo-Dutch war (>1665) is should be red-white-blue.

This documentary / thespian and computer reenactment covers such important events in history including the obvious question why no remaining name New Amsterdam despite a San Francisco, Los Angeles, California, Montreal etc. The answer from this documentary is that the Duke of York was not just related to the King of England he was eventually related to the Prince of Orange. Basically, they worked it out amongst themselves and all eventually agreed with the name “New York.”

That's a matter of more complexity than just simply that! San Francisco, Los Angeles, Montreal, California etc.etc were already well established cities and territories, well known already all over the world. Trying to change their names or give them a new identity would have been impossible, and more so totally unnecessary. Imagine Texas been called anything other than Texas....! And for that matter Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico...even Montana doesn't get that chance!

For those who are interested, there is a rather good and accurate movie about the Dutch Anglo wars 'Michiel de Ruyter' after the admiral. Its Dutch English made but mainly Dutch spoken. There's a dubbed version but i've got no idea if it's available outside the Netherlands. Anyway, they depict the sea battles and tactics rather well. Among with the politics, complots and the Dutch royal state holder preparing to be king of England, plan was the Dutch would provit from this and eventually got the worst of it. Didn't make things better for the Dutch and certainly not for the Irish. Till this day orange is in their flag and the north keeps troubeling with their inheritance! Thanks Willem Wiliam 😅 I'm guessing thats the only thing that remained from the Anglo Dutch wars. Officially the Dutch and British where in war over the scilly Isles until the 1990's when they finally agreed and our queens signed the peace. And de Ruyters marine forces are still around, nice invention. Otherwise there's not much gained or left from the battles and countless deaths.

Stadtholder is the English word and he was not royal. Stadhouder was the Dutch word for steward to the king, for one or more provinces. When the king was declared to have left the throne for ignoring inalienable rights and becoming a tyrant in 1581, the stadtholder who led the revolt became the de facto leader but he was not the souvereign, souvereignty had moved from the king to parliament or the people, that matter was never decided. Anyway, stadtholders were appointed by parliaments.

Excellent documentary. The format of CGI ships (which are thankfully not pulled from total war) with real life actors is such a breath of fresh air. For a free documentary, it's a great one. One can even excuse small mistakes like that total lack of hats and the british flag from 1707 appearing in the 1670s hehe.

Excellent production. Something that our American brethren should take good and thorough notion of. There is the possibility it would lead to the unexpected outcome that they would learn something of it.

Yeah, because low crime, low unemployment, high wages, cheap gas and groceries is such a shitass situation. I much prefer the endless threat of war, high prices on everything combined with a devalued dollar, rampant crime and government dictating what you can think, say and do. Yeah, Trump was soooo terrible.

5 minutes in, and, so far, is not so bad. Is it that bad? They didn't get Daniel Day Lewis or Rob De Niro for the acting, but, for a documentary, no one is expecting Academy Award calibre performances. But, wait? Trump? The orangists?! What's that all about? Will watch more, & see if you're maybe not wrong after all lol 🤔
