Thanks for the suggestions! Do A Powerbomb is the undisputed comic book champion of the world. Ben Reilly Spider-Man was a great throwback story from JMD. It was a story about Spider-Man is as strong as the people around him. Glad to see Human Target and World's Finest getting recommended -certainly two of the most consistently solid books from DC this year. I would have given Cat -woman an honorable mention myself, as it's probably the most consistent regular series they have going. Also glad to hear Immortal X-men get a nod -the X-men books can often be a mess to wade through to find the good ones, but Immortal' definitely stands out among them. For anyone looking for good X-men, I also would recommend not sleeping on the latest volume of X-men:Red -it's got great character use and a pretty well-crafted plot going on. Lastly, for anyone who hasn't checked it out, I think Department of Truth is a really unique book that really offers something different in terms of storytelling and especially in terms of tone.

Great list. Appreciate the variety and not just titles from the big two. For me some of my favourites of the year not mentioned are: That Texas Blood - If you are a fan of Brubaker/Phillips this book is a must. Follows a sheriff in Texas and some of the interesting and life altering cases in his life. X-Men Red - Immortal is great but for me this book has been all I want from X-Men. Deep lore, space drama, excellent characterization and starring new and underused mutants. Other than that fell in love with Jed Mackay. Moon Knight, Strange, Black Cat have all been super fun and remind me of what got me into comics. Also Zdarsky still killing it on Daredevil.

The end of Jed McKay‘s black cat run ended this year and I think is a very underrated title. Including the Mary Jane and Black Cat Beyond, Iron Cat and Mary Jane and Black Cat Dark Web. He feels like one of those authors who truly understand the character so well, they might as well created them.

It’s Lonely At The Center Of The Earth by Zoe Thorogood was easily the best book I’ve read in a long time, and my pick for best of the year. It’s an autobio comic that is just so much more. I must say that Tom King has been on a roll this past year. From writing Supergirl to a classic character like Christopher Chance, his stories have been awesome but I must say that the comic I've enjoyed by Tom King the most this year is Batman: Killing Time. The new villian introduced in the comic, The Help, has got to be one of my favorite recent villians to be added to the Batman mythos as well as David Marquez's excellent art that really grabbed my interest and enhanced the story imo. Though I will say the backtracking/over exposition and constant pov swapping King likes to do made the story a bit confusing to follow at times but overall, really good stuff (which is surprising since I didn't like his Batman run that much lol). Another surprise comic that got me this year was Venom Lethal Protector. It's pretty neat that I recommend for any Venom fan, especially if they want to see some amazing art and a more goofy Venom reminiscent of his first couple appearances back in the early days.

I the only new manga/comic I read this year was Spy Family, loved it too, started reading it by your recommendations. I got "Thus spoke Rohan Kishibe" which is a compilation of short stories of the character from Jojo Bizarre Adventures part 4. It's ok , and it's self-contained, but that's it's also the weakness in comparison of the main series. The other one I really liked because I am a fan of Kamen Rider Kuuga , the manga was published quite a few years ago in Japan but just recently came out in the west. It's a retelling of the story of the tv show but with a lot more mature focus, with more police mystery angle, and much more action and violence. The design for the creatures is much scary and dramatic, more in line of the mangas of original creator of Kamen Rider- Shotaro Ishinimori(Japan's Jack Kirby basically)

I think Batman/Superman Generations was the first comic that did the time skip by decades like Spider-Man Life Story. And then some X-Men comic did the same in 2019.

Human Target and Supergirl are light years ahead of everything else on this list and, funnily enough, both are written by Tom King - whose run on Batman was ... *unfortunate*, to say the least. Gorgeous art can only partially 'save' a comic book if it's a jumbled clusterfrack of 'deep' ideas and I'm glad these two books of his were a complete 180 for me.

I read "Do a Power Bomb" because of your recommendation. It is one the greatest comics I have ever read. I will read now everything DWJ has written. New big Fan of that man.

Happy New Year to you and your family Chris. Loved the video and have been holding off on Do a Powerbomb for when I can give it my full concentration. I read 'TMNT the last Ronin' after the video, thanks! Comics Ive particularly enjoyed in 2022 in no particular order. Step by Bloody Step (Spurrier & Bergara) Beautifully illustrated book with no dialogue. Would loved to have seen Spurriers notes to Bergara for this one. Birdking Vol.1 (Daniel Freedman & Crom) Another nostalgic love letter to dark fantasty and adventure. If you llike this and havent already, check out their 2020 book, Raiders KALI (Daniel Freedman & Sammelin) I picked this up curious to see what Freedman did outside of the very strong aesthetics of CROMs stylized world and was pleasantly suprised by the discovery of artist Robert Sammelin who I will be watching for.

English-translations of volumes of Witch Hat Atelier by Kamome Shirahama continued to be released in 2022, in addition to the first volume of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou by Hitoshi Ashinano! I will have to look for that Daniel Warren Johnson Do A Powerbomb book, I loved his Murder Falcon collection and noticed it immediately in the spinner rack! Eight Billion Genies also sounds cool.

“Oh hi. You caught me making a list and checking it twice.” I assume that was edited out because of time restraint.

I haven't seen any of these (not buying comics much these days), but I may have to pick up Fantastic 4 Full Circle. And Ducks - Two years in the Oilfield, not my usual read, looks worth a read as well.

My 2 favorite books that didn't get mentioned here that dropped this year were Dynamite Diva: One Eyed Wild Ride by Jasper Juvenville and Below Ambition by Simon Hanselmann. Dynamite Diva is osme of my favorite "underground comix" work in years with Chester Gould inspired art that has a DIY rigidness to it, and tons of fun exploitation B-movie atmosphere. Simon Hanselmann's stories with Megg, Mogg, Owl, and Werewolf Jones is hands down my favorite ongoing series. Always hilarious and relatable to depressed millennials such as myself who grew up on things like Adult Swim, Beavis & Butthead, and underground punk/noise/shoegaze music. Below Ambition was sort of a mini-graphic novel, but was still one of my favorite reads. Hopefully his next big work Megg's Coven drops next year and makes it into your list :)

@@solidkingcobra impressive that there's not one word uttered and it carries it all through the thing only comics can do in it's truest essence. The most "comic" comic in years.

A very good list with topped by a spot-on choice, Do a powerbomb was one of the most dynamic and moving comics series I read this year, that's for sure. I would also recommend Newburn by Chip Zdarsky and Jacob Phillips, a very good noir series, and the amazing Starhenge by Liam Sharp.
