What were the signs of autism that we saw with our 2 girls who were diagnosed with autism at 18 months and 3 years old? Today I talk about the signs that we saw that led us to have them tested, what led to each of them to be diagnosed and the things that they have in common and the ways that they're really quite different.

As far as the negative comments... some people just have no manners or common sense to keep their cheap shots to themselves. Thank you for doing this. My great granddaughter is similar to your girls in some ways. She is a lovely smiley little doll, like your beautiful daughters. Not all of your clues are evident. Eye contact is very strong but so many other traits are clear. Language is now very slow. She is 2. I just hope her mother will be as great a mum as you clearly are.

Tessie has (or had) so many of the signs my 2.5yo son does! He hated being held when he was a baby. His first form of play was spinning things and it's still one of his favorite activities. At 15 months when most toddlers are super clingy he would play by himself for an hour or more and get annoyed if you tried to join him. He occasionally tries to elope, has some limited imaginative play, just so many similarities! They also have a few differences so I think it's really interesting how everyone on the spectrum is united by similarities but that there are also differences within the things that unite them.

I love that you deeply know that you little girls are atypical in their development but never wanting! Not one negative evaluation of where they are developmentally only positive and interesting as you are learning about who they are and how to encourage their growth as humans!

Your two daughters sound like my two daughters. In the same order too. My first was always and is always moving. She's 16 now. But as toddlers and children they seemed alot like tour two. You could have been speaking about my two actually. My second daughter born 16 months after my first. Was never one for cuddling or affection. But as she got older she occassionally came to us for a cuddle or hug. She was quieter and less problematic in school as well. Many, many emails and phone calls and meetings for my oldest, even to this very day. My youngest honour roll student. Usually quiet and easy going. But last 10 months or so has gotten louder and more aggressive over things out of her control with other people. She use to flap as a child but no more. Makes lots of random vocal noises though. We had a neurologist tell us when my second daughter was 14 months he thought she was autistic. Because she was too "social" and made too much eye contact back in 2008 she was not autistic according to the autism clinic at our children's hospital. That she had a sensory processing disorder to explain the screaming, lack of speech, her intense desire to play in water( mostly to pour water) but flipped out to be put in water or to try and wash her hair was due to sensory processing disorder. It wasn't until she was in grade 5 she was finally diagnosed with autism. She was diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety in grade 2. My youngest had more signs for autism but the eye contact erased that diagnosis and then years down the road they had concluded that girls can be more social and make more eye contact and still have autism. Ok this gave me so much hope. I am terrified Liam will be like Noah and be so "extra" LOL but you are right, just because they're siblings doesn't mean they're the same. Liam has a completely different personality, he's calm and Noah was NEVER calm lol. And yes, I am binging your videos LOL

It's so funny how different they can be! When I was watching your video this morning, I was reminded so much of Tessie's first evaluation. All the scores were so similar, with her being in the 6 month or lower range at a year and then again at 18 months, and always in the 1st percentile. But therapy really is helping in so many ways, and you're getting this diagnosis so early, and you already have so much experience you're going to be able to help him so much. And hopefully this is a little comforting, but when Maggie was diagnosed she was diagnosed as being in the "lowest .05% of kids on the spectrum" to the 1st percentile in various areas, and now she scores as "moderately" disabled when we get her reevaluation each year for the program she's in. So it definitely can change with early intervention (and she was three when she started therapy). I remember shaking in the car on the way home from getting Tessie's diagnosis, and thinking "why am I shaking, I've known this for so long" but I think it's impossible to realize how hard actually getting those results can be until you get them, even when you don't believe it's a bad thing at all, just because you have all these feels about the challenges you know your child is going to be facing. But all your kids have the best possible parents for any challenges they're facing. ❤️ Oh and before I forget. Lex reminds me so much sometimes of Sadie when she was tiny, who does have ADHD. She has so many little spectrum-y things that it's been suggested by so many doctors/therapists/teachers that she's on the spectrum, but she always tests as ADHD (although sometimes I do wonder!). There's so much overlap! But it has been much easier for her in a lot of ways too! I know you guys have had so much happen in the past year, but you've totally got this. I'm really thankful that they were able to get him in for an eval so quick, and get services started. That is definitely the best news. ❤️

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love your videos! This one keeps the bar up high😊 One thing I found every interesting was that I think this was the first time I heard you mention anxiety...I know YOU’VE had anxiety about Maggie’s elopement and escape prowess, but as far as your girls go, it doesn’t seem to be an issue as much as it is with many other children on the spectrum. Thank you! ❤️ I think one reason I hadn't mentioned it is because we didn't really realize how much it was with Maggie until this year (and I'm not sure it really was an issue before this past year when she had a bad experience with a worker who is no longer allowed near her). As a result we saw a lot more behaviors and she became a lot more anxious, but it's been getting better with lots of guidance from her doctor and therapists.

Our oldest son is autistic and our younger son has been diagnosed with ADHD and the doctor said she thinks he’s also autistic but we’re waiting on the results of one more test. If he is it will be everyone in our family of seven.

Hi, I love your videos! Very interesting and informative! I saw on KZbin a video about a boy with autism and the parents were giving him CBD oil. They were saying that when he was taking the oil, he was a completely normal boy playing with his brother, responding to his name andall the normal things.... Before starting to take the oil he was completely ignoring his brother, he was even hating his brother! So I was wondering if you know about that oil or any health professional told you about it.

Autism is beautiful. They are very intelligent souls. You are a beautiful mom. Very aware. Kids don't get autism, they are born that way and so yes you can know. Professionals have just made an arbitrary diagnosis age, according to their current knowlege. That is always changing. Good job.

Love ur videos,but I'm a bit confused and if u can help me would be great,I've 2 months old boy,and older girl,my girl doesnt have a condition, but my boy makes me concern, he looks at our faces but looks like not enough,but he smiles,reacts on sounds,follow people with eyes,but he is not a big fan to look at face,he likes to be cuddled but he is ok to be in his swings.... just doesnt look at face much, can it be a sign or I'm just too fussy and concentrated on this disorder and try to find it in my boy?thx ))

I've noticed in my grandson when feeding or immediately after he seems like something is not right. He stares up, gets stiff especially in one arm and is very twitchy and wont make eye contact. It really makes me wonder about dry formula.

@@clairehipe4051 he is great, I still hate dry formula, and zantac. It was so hard to babysit him them. But now he is the sweetest, funny, and most beautiful person . And he is completely normal. If ya have worries, I understand but its probably nothing that wont correct itself. I still think breastfeeding is the way to go. But if ya cant. you have to do next best thing. It's not any other options unfortunately.

yes gross motor skills is advance in some autistic kids but delayed in fine motor skills and speech

I am so sorry that that happened to you with the doctor. It should not like that. There are definitely people with a eugenics mindset out there still today and it’s heartbreaking. I think you should check for a second opinion. Diagnosing kids with autism these days became such a trend. I don't see anything abnormal in your description. Many kids talk late are not autistic. Seriously, have you considered misdiagnose?

Talking late was not the only red flag for autism mentioned here. There were numerous signs of ASD mentioned for both her girls. Being diagnosed with autism is more common now because so much more is known that wasn’t known before. Quite honestly getting an accurate diagnosis is the best possible thing for these kids because it provides them access to the vital services that will make such a huge difference in their ability to communicate and function in the long term.

You should really educate yourself. My sons speech delay was the sign of his asd and he gets it from me so it was no doubt in my mind. There are more people out there then you realise. I think many aren't diagnosed
