I know this is 4 years old now and you may not see it, but towards the end when you talked about feeling things that were sounds, it made me wonder if you have synesthesia or if you’ve heard of it. Those descriptions to me sound like a pretty good possibility that you are in some way. It’s a pretty interesting condition, but briefly, it’s basically when a person’s senses get sort of crosswired in their brain. For example, I have a friend with it that sees numbers in colors - every number has its own color when she sees them (independent of if they’re actually colored or not). She has always been very good with math and works a lot in accounting, and she’s always been exceptional with preparing for audits and one time she was explaining what she had been working on and how when she was going through the spreadsheet of all the past year’s transactions, she’d have to look for the numbers with the wrong colors, and I had just watched a video about synesthesia so I asked her if she meant like “when the balances are in the red”, etc., and she said, “no. I mean when the numbers are the wrong color because they don’t add up correctly. You know how they’re supposed to be the right color when they add up right?” So I told her to go watch the video I had just seen and she did and came back and said, “you mean you don’t see numbers in different colors when you look at them???” She was completely SHOCKED! She had NO IDEA that through her whole life that everyone didn’t see that when they looked at numbers, but it suddenly made sense to her why she was so much better at accounting and balancing accounts because it would be so much more work if you had to just stare at the raw numbers and meticulously go through and make sure they all added up one by one. Anyway, something to consider if you haven’t already or don’t already know. But this was a great and really helpful video because I’ve been thinking about whether or not I sould go try to get a diagnosis myself at 51. I’m pretty sure I am after spending the last few years researching it to see if it fit or not, but that’s not the same thing as a proper diagnosis.

The intense focus on writing though. I literally do that in fact I accidentally wore a novel that I intended to be a short story by hyperfixating and that is what made me know I had to be nurodivergent. So I got checked and I do have adhd so yeah. + also I relate to the acting much younger than my age thing but I just always associated that with being more a ‘nerd’ (even tho I do see how it’s a nurodivergent trait) I collect dolls and plushies I would consider Sesame Street and Jim Hensons puppetry a special interest of mine I wear childish “cute” “Kawaii” clothing. I still watch cartoons (though I am studying cartoons and comics as a degree so this may get a pass) And my food pallet is that of a 5 year old, with a few adult foods thrown in every so often. + I relate to loving making lists And making up games and controlling them and said games was usually just roleplaying which is just two person writing. 😅

I'm 24 and recently became obsessed with medieval castles, like I have hundreds of pictures downloaded from the internet that I look at and study for architectural details that I can incorporate into designing my own castles. I've logged nearly 1000 hours into a game that never left early access which lets me build castles and I actually deprive myself of food and general needs as long as I can stand just to continue building. If I had the money then my bookshelf would be lined with castle books, most of them probably for children because castles are seen as only for children; talk about having immature interests lol. I've sought an explaination as to why I suddenly became consumed by my interest in castles, and autistic special interest definitely fits the bill.

On the grocery thing, is there a thought process behind your always taking the same route? I occasionally go straight to what I need (like if I'm in a rush, e.g. just picking up a snack on my way to meet a friend, and I'm almost always late so I don't have time for the route), but if I'm buying groceries I always think that maybe there's something I need I didn't put on my list and walk the same path every time.
@jasperkanes85224 жыл бұрын
I also always go to the same grocery store even though it's not the closest one to me anymore because I know the layout of the store and feel like I can shop more efficiently because I don't have to look for things. Not knowing where the things I need are makes me anxious.

I hope this doesn't come off offensive. I don't mean to invalidate anyone. It's not a question about you or your children personally ...I'm just not that knowledgeable about this topic yet and you have children, so you know better. If a neutrotypical child gets raised by an autistic parent and "normal" kids learn social interaction by copying caretakers...will the neurotypical child copy the behaviour of the autistic parent and/or forms of interactions that work for them? Like...could it be that the child is nt but has for example problems with "normal" social interactions because what they learned as normal social interactions in their home was different from other children?
@Autmazing4 жыл бұрын
I think this is a great question! ❤️ I actually asked this of multiple therapists and doctors before our second to youngest was evaluated and they said no way. A neurotypical kid might pick up some things but would still be pretty neurotypical. Besides my husband and I have spent our whole lives masking pretty well and our kids don’t... I think now their influence has me trying to let myself be more myself if that makes sense? Because masking is super stressful but hard to unlearn when you’ve done it round the clock all your life.
@mathilda67634 жыл бұрын
@@Autmazing thank you for your fast answer. That's really interesting...I guess that most kids grow up also with different influences like peers, teachers and others around them not just their caretaker. So as much of an influence a parent can be, there also other people that can be role models...and it is part of them as a person to be nt just as much? It is good to hear that your children don't have to go to such an amount of stress and have you as their parents that can understand them well. Always masking and trying to fit in is really exhausting. It sometimes good to be able to do get your needs across a little easier, but always...that's tiring.

I have many of these things in common with you. I have a particular way I walk through places - not necessarily the grocery store, but if I'm walking somewhere I always walk on the same side of the street and have particular places I cross the street. When shopping though, I have a need to see every single option before making a decision (and make sure I didn't miss any good deals), so I end up walking through the whole store anyways. I'm in college now (well, currently at home, but only because of the virus) and experienced the afraid to eat thing, especially when I first got to school. I was afraid of the dining hall, but luckily I could still get take out without worrying too much. I was also afraid of the bathroom in my dorm and afraid to shower, resulting in poor hygiene for a while. I'm also fashion inept. At this point I've decided the best thing is to have all my pants go with all my shirts and then I don't have a problem. One of my favorite stories from when I was little is I came out of my room wearing a tie-dye tshirt and plaid shorts, my mom was not having it, and I said, "What? They're both blue!" All my journals from when I was little are filled with lists. My biggest obsessions were Pokémon and dog breeds, so many of the lists are related to those things.

At the time, I was confused as to how I could have been the first person to understand him when we didn't even meet until we were teenagers (he seemed "normal" enough to me, just a bit awkward). Scripts, let me tell you about scripts, i used them so much they are almost pre programmed. I picked a job with my biggest social anxiety of dealing with phones and talking to strangers face to face. So more scripts, yeah that’s fun but so much more doable after 13 years. I still suffer from trying to come up with new material for conversations, but thankfully am good at masking it and joking. Yes, even the jokes are scripted. I have hugging issues, it’s awkward and uncomfortable. I need to feel comfortable, there are materials I won’t wear and make up. Am I on the spectrum? Probably, but whatever, I’ve forced myself and have to keep forcing myself to achieve as much normality as I can handle. I’m not into labels, they can either free you of responsibility or push you into a stereotype, where some people are cunts and start disrespecting you and saying; well that’s the “disease” talking. I know it ain’t a disease, but like I said cunts.

I loved Pokémon as a young kid too! Not so much anymore though. I think it's one of the most common interests for autistics.

I have a lot if things that make me wonder if I’m on the spectrum. But I would be considered high functioning. But I am 37 and if anything slightly changes it really upsets me and throws me off. Even small things such as changing dinner plans etc. It makes me so anxious. I also am very obsessive and focus on certain things a LOT. It could be a tv show or an item of clothing, or a piece of food. I am just always so much more intense than others. But I have OCD, so it may be more to do with that. I don’t know if I should follow up on it, there is lots more to it than what I have written. But those are my two big things.

My sister and best friend suffered with migraines for yrs. They both went and was tested for Food allergies. They found out what foods they had allergies too and stopped eating those foods and migraines went away. Sister was allergic to dark chocolate and onions. My friend was allergic to butter milk. Hope this helps.

sounds like a general opinion on woman shopping for me , what make neurotypical woman sound Autistic,but being a male grab and go due to the fact shopping stresses me, often sees me sitting in car for 3 hrs in car park reading a book waiting for wife to finish shop.

Wow, I did almost all those things and thought those were all normal. Especially dressing like your friend and pretending you're twins, that's not normal??

Pretend play is normal. All kids do that :)

@@andressalittle5380 you do realize that all kids don't do all things autistic kids do though? It's not about one thing here and one thing there. It's about 15, 20, 25 things that you do your entire life that affect you daily.

You looked so normal to me. Anyway, there's a different kind of spectrum called asperger, and I think more likely you're in this group. Asperger and autism is quite the same but difference in intellect. If you do not know about it yet, you can Google it and check. By the way, I'm with asperger. I only knew about it about 10 years ago. All my life I was like a Lone Ranger. So I suspected something wrong with me, and I did alot of research, and also went to the Autism Association to check, and finally I had the answer. Asperger.

I really ought to make a youtube video just to show what a real woman looks like. I do not wear make-up. This woman sez she wears make-up for youtube. Why??? because you think "people" will like you better? Women are such fools. We so need another jolt of feminism. I am 73. So I have a few coping skills. I live alone, because I like it and because I have alienated everyone. I am not about to "paint my face" in order to win friends and influence people. I groom. I bathe and comb my hair. I have better things to do than spend dollars and hours on changing my appearance. Just thought I'd rant a bit. I am very depressed.
