That was just painful to watch. I did a recovery this winter that was just as frustrating. 11" of fresh snow helping clear main street downtown for the plows. Lady had an AWD no tow points and absolutely no common sense. Told her three times exactly what we were going to do. My son walked beside the vehicle repeatedly telling her the same thing I told her and she kept driving it right back into the drift. After many attempts I was able to get her to let my 15 y/o do di it for her and boom we're were out. 🤦🏻‍♂️. Lots of respect for not losing your cool with them. Completely understand.

From the sounds that the engine made when you were trying to start it I would say there is a good chance that there was water in the cylinders. Yes sometimes with a good battery you can still crank the engine over, & it will sometimes even start, but where water does not compress it has a tendency to bend connecting rods & or break pistons :-( It is best to check the engine air filter for signs of water before trying to start a vehicle that has been in the water like that. Removing all spark plugs & turning the engine over by hand can save a lot of costly repairs. Just my 2 cents worth, I enjoy your videos.

also if an exhuast valve was in an open position while it sat in water, it could backflow into the cylinder via the exhaust...

It wasn’t I tore it apart it hade no water and it was just out of gas that sound is us runing out of gas our engine mounts are bad so we get bad knocking when it runs out it runs just no management system and. Computer is toast but runs lol it’s funny that car people don’t know this

Surprising how clueless some people are,when they drive their vehicle off the pavement!! These Pennsylvanians need to stick within the city's limits,wherever their from--recognized the license plate. I no longer have my Wrangler, the 4liter gave up the ghost,so I don't need the recovery equipment, gift it too someone more needy. I'm rolling around in a Ram 4x2,sitting on Goodyear Wrangler Authority ten ply tires( love the growling tire sounds)!! Have fun,, am waiting for next mud hole recovery video!!😎😎😎

What a mess they got themselves into. Good job getting them out. Nice to see you had all kinds of help. Sometimes some damage can’t be avoided. The owner put the vehicle at risk by going on those trails. Also, I have helped people recover, and many are not even aware of the factory tow point and eyelet. About 50% of the time, the brand new vehicles don’t have an eyelet. They have to be bought from a dealership. And when using a screw in eyelet, make sure you tighten in good. Most of the eyelets are 1/2” - 5/8” or even a bit larger in diameter. 80-100 foot pounds of torque is a ballpark range. Be sure to thread it all the way in until it stops. And make sure it’s more than finger tight. I use the handle of the lug wrench to “field” torque it. Tow truck drivers often complain about the tow points being weak. Many won’t use them. They fasten to other parts of the vehicle. But in your particular situation, sometimes there are no other options. I’d like a snatch box. Ideally it’s best to have three. That way you can put together some very “condition specific” rigging configurations. And trust me, I fully understand your frustration with individuals who are completely unprepared. I’ve helped many recover over the years. Most frustrating for me is when children are involved. No food, no water, no extra clothing or blankets, etc. Being prepared can/does save lives. Especially in extreme heat, or the freezing cold. In years past, I’ve recovered people who have slid off a snowy/icy road. And about 95% of the time, they are not prepared for any type of emergency. With children in the car. I often “suggest” to these folks that they use a suitcase and make themselves an emergency kit. Put it in their vehicle. It does not cost that much and may save lives. Canned meats, nuts, water, juice, dried fruits or canned fruits, etc. first aid kit. A bar of soap, wash cloth, hand towel. And of course a can opener if needed. Some of my most joyful and fond memories are those times when I’ve given a child a can of peaches, and a bottle of water to snack on, while I help their parent(s) recover. Food usually calms children. Being stuck in the snow can be very frightening. I’ve seen it many times. People come to Flagstaff Az to “see” snow. To “play” But very often are not prepared in any manner. I’ve recovered people who came to Flagstaff to “see” snow and end up sliding off the road. They were wearing t-shirts, shorts, and flip flops. It made no sense to me. But I’m glad I was able to help them, and get them back on the road.

Your frustrations are understandable and right on. It can also be frustrating when there are too many people on scene with their own ideas of how best to recover. Usually "more than one way to skin a cat". Pick one a go with it - then adapt and overcome. Another entertaining video that helps us all learn from other people's experience. Good job! Great video and like others have said the frustration is completely understandable. There is no reason for anyone to go out with some knowledge with all of the great instructional videos that are out now a days. I look at it like this: I doubt a tow truck would have gone out there to get them, and if they had, they would have charged a heft, HEFTY fee. A cracked bumper is nothing; they should have known better than to take that thing out there, and it sounds like they're gonna have a likely expensive mechanic bill. Common sense just isn't common anymore. I could probably use that receiver for the hitch (I can't remember exactly what it's called, I've been wheeling all day and I'm tired).

Every car I ever came across has a transmission parking release or override. Usually hidden right by shifter. Look for little 1/4 plastic button cover. I’ve got a 2015 Pathfinder. Let me know if you want me to look it up and post a pic on FB.

I’m up in Ocala every other weekend in the wrangler with my Great Dane, and am sick of seeing so much trash on the trail but am selective of what I pick up case the pup tries getting into it.. having the separate bag would eliminate that risk and keep the trash outside the Jeep

Its nice to see people enjoy the outdoors. However everyone should know and stay within their limits and that of their vehicle/gear. Not being prepared and no experience make a bad combination which can result in injuries or worse. Thankfully and lucky for such people, that there are those who are able to do what you do. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience which helps us to help ourselves and others. I would choose either a snatch block or a kinetic rope and pay the difference. Another good recovery and chance to learn. Just last week I learned a lesson. I went out with some others and before I left the house thought “it won’t be that bad.” Well it got that bad…and then some. Luckily I had my basic recovery gear but no saw, shovel, or hi-lift which would have helped. I was buried in mud and needed winched backwards but no one or way to do it. I know with the correct equipment you can winch yourself backwards problem is I don’t have enough snatch blocks. I want to have at least four and a winch extension. My obvious pick would be a snatch block.

I got into doing this because of watching your videos. I’ve been rescuing people for the past month or so in the Lake Meade area of Las Vegas where I live. Planning on starting a channel. 2" Shackle Hitch and Recovery Snatch Block are the only items I'm missing from the recovery gear I already own, that engine sounded like it was trying to compress water when it was turning over, afraid it may have had water leak into cylinders from exhaust valve being open or made its way in via the air filter.. good education point in the vid bud, keep it up.

Gots to pull the air filter and plugs. Crank it over and clear the intake. Reinstall plugs and fire it up. Done it many times.

You are very good at recoveries and it is above and beyond the call of duty to go and buy recover hook off of amazon that go to all these cars and non off road suvs. I can't believe car companies don't include those with every vehicle. How would you get unstuck out of the mud, out of a ditch, or even towed up in to a flat bed tow truck? It makes no sense, like not having a spare tire, what is wrong with car companies.

I picked up a bridle that has the J hooks and the other attachments to fit in the holes on the frame for recoveries like this. I haven’t had to use it yet but I have it for when I need it. I could use another snatch block so that’s what I’d pick if I win.
