19 kids means you’re permanently pregnant or in postpartum phases….For decades!! So you’re never your baseline self. I’ve had 2 kids back to back and that was 4 years of my life essentially. I can’t even begin to imagine the state of someone’s pelvic floor after 19 kids!!!

@@saintamerican6105 this has nothing to do with the health of your pelvic floor. Many of these women that have so many babies likely have uterine prolapse and bladder/bowel issues because our bodies are not intended to be pregnant all the time. Pregnancy is so much harder on the body than people realize

His family isn't Amish,(or Morman, or Catholic, lol) but my husband is the third of seven children. I once calculated it out, that my poor mother-in-law was either lactating or pregnant for eleven years through with the first 5! Then they had a short break before the last two. Sometimes nursing while pregnant. I've never asked her about that pelvic floor situation though.😅

I didn't grow up Amish, but my family never told me that they loved me. I did get hugs once in a great while, and we did have a lot of fun together, and I sort of intrinsically knew that they loved me, but they never said the words until I was nearly an adult. It was nice to hear the words then, but it felt a little late. Now as a parent to three boys, I tell them I love them every day! And, they've gotten plenty of hugs growing up!

I hope the subject of this video allows me to ask the following questions: 1. If Swartzentruber Amish today put such a high value of many kids in the family - how do they treat women that are naturally infertile? 2. If a woman does not want kids - is it a shameful confession that the bride-to-be makes to her family prior to start the dating season or the Amish society allows a room for such position? 3. Is it possible for both young man and young woman to agree in advance that they just don't want kids?

I just read a lot of the comments and wanted to offer a different perspective, and this is also probably related to geography and timeline. Born in the 70s, grew up in the 80s in the New York metro area; we were shown a film in fifth grade (mostly about puberty) and had a full semester sex ed class in eighth grade included topics about birth control, std, biology, etc. Also had full talks with my parents. I am a male, but this was the experience for any of the females I knew as well. Things got more repressed again as we went on into the 90s and onwards (in some regards).

This sounds similar to what we got in the UK in the 00s to 10s, except we had many sessions on top of generic science classes from year 4 (age 8-9) up until year 11 (age 15-16). We were never segregated and it was part of the national curriculum, so I know everyone would have been taught similar things. As part of her job, my friend teaches sexual health in a college (mostly ages 16-18). However, I'm not sure if this is just something her college does or if it's a government requirement now.

I would literally die. I have really terrible pregnancies. I found out I have a chronic illness because the symptoms became intolerable during my pregnancies and I still have PTSD from the last one. I could totally do labor again, but I can't do another pregnancy. I love my kiddos very much, and I'd love to have a 4th, but I'm not about to sign up to be bedridden another 9 months. And it's wild to me that anyone could think that completely not talking about it could be healthy. I believe intimacy should be within a committed martial relationship, but withholding the knowledge just sets them up to either getting into a situation where instinct takes over or just plain being taken advantage of. And it should be introduced young. My dad was a leader of a congregation when I was a teenager, and the kids were facing things in school at so young, after he was asked to speak to the 10-12 year olds on chastity, it was so well received the parents asked him to talk to the 8-10 year olds too, because they were facing the same issues. There's such thing as an age appropriate sex education talk

It's rubbish advice, no matter your viewpoints on sex and relationships! It gives you absolutely no information or even proper "rules" to follow. Also, you can have sex or do other things without removing any clothes or even underwear, depending on the design. For example, split drawers used to be very popular under dresses to make it easier to go to the toilet without having to remove anything at all.

i totally understand how not receiving any kind of physical affection really bothered your and made it so you felt like you couldn't stay. It's a tough situation to be in. Obligatory "I'm not Amish, but..." my parents are the perfect northern german stereotype: talk very little, no physical affection, a bit rough, etc. After moving out and finding my own tribe I've had more hugs from friends, or even strangers at a concert or pride than I've had from them. It's upsetting to think about, so i usually try not to, especially since i feel like in society we don't really talk about intimacy outside of romantic relationships

@AnnafromHungarylvNW The Catholic Church only cares about the kind of birth control that can interrupt God's will, aka anything unnatural. Tracking your natural cycles and even practicing abstinence are ways that you can naturally keep from being pregnant, but the assumption is that without the intervention of the pills, a woman would be impregnated from semen implanted during fertile periods. It couldn't happen without the aid of a drug, so it isn't part of God's design but man's. The human body was divinely designed, and therefore, the rules it naturally operates under count as part of God's will.

Genuine question. You said there were no hugs or I love yous. But like, how does a mom, holding their newborn or infant, not just eat their cheeks 😅 as a mom, I have such an urge to bury my face in my baby’s cheeks and pretend to eat his toes and give him all the love. Most people have that urge with babies. How do these mom’s resist?? Maybe they don’t and at a certain age they just stop giving that love and affection? I can’t imagine it.

Ok but _how do you not notice your mother being pregnant?_ I was reading a book set decades ago & couldn’t wrap my head around it. Do you just…never see your mother? Is it normal to never see your mother? It’s pretty rare for there to be no bump.

I would think that living a rural life around livestock would mean there was some idea about reproduction.

What happens to unmarried pregnant women? Do the Amish have a lot of shotgun weddings as a result? (And if so, does everyone know it’s a shotgun wedding) or are the women shunned so badly that they leave the community?

I know 20 years ago when I lived there, the Amish had their own abortion clinic in Gap, PA. That was how the Amish in Lancaster County handled it. Girls getting pregnant before marriage was unheard of, or at least never spoken of.

I really wonder when you go to visit your mother how do you dress? What do you guys talk about do you let her know the businesses you have? Do you show her how you're thriving in the modern world or do you go to visit her in your old Amish dress? No disrespect to you I'm just very curious on how you approach your mother when you visit her. Love your channel❤

Ok, Lizzie, question: are you married to your son's father? Why or why not? You have shown them both in your vids, tho minimally. No doubt you are proud of them, so why not expand on that fact?

So children didn't see how things happen with farm animals? Most all families I know who raise animals have children who understand how the conception and birth of new baby animals happen, even at a rather young age. 🤔

How can a kid not know that their mother is going to have a baby? Don't you see your mom's belly getting fat? At what point in age do you begin to make the connection between "mom is getting fat, I hear a new baby crying, now mom is thin again" and "oh, getting fat = going to have a baby"? I get that you would not know HOW the mom gets pregnant but to not realize at some point, over a nine month time span, that "oh, mom is going to have another baby"? Does the mom wear bulky clothing to hide the pregnancy?

so there was no touching anything once a kid no longer needed to be held? Oh right, there were spankings but no hugs. The only touching was to grab you for the woodshed? Oh yes, that's right, only "the strap" was used. Gotta find a Canadian Amish KZbinr to answer the next questions.

That command was issued twice in the Bible: right after creation and right after the flood. At both of these times there were very few people on earth. We have eight billion now. It needs to be kept in context.
