Rykard does have a link to the prison section of the sewers. He was the law. As far as the mountaintop of the giants, Recusant Bernahl did make it there and his maiden was burned. He then joined Volcano Manor. If the finger creepers were related to the two fingers you’d think there’d be some mention in lore.

The description for the finger club says that it’s a legacy of an old blasphemy, the way how the sentence is structured makes it sound as though the blasphemy wasn’t the cutting of the finger but rather what created the fingers, since if it was the act of cutting the finger that was blasphemy it would probably say that it was an old act of blasphemy, instead of being the legacy of it. What does the item description say in Japanese? Because if it’s different then we could tell whether it’s calling the act of mutilating the fingercreepers the blasphemy or that the finger creepers were the ancient act of blasphemy, and the finger is just a legacy. This would probably make it more certain whether the fingers are from Rykard or the Greater Will.

Definitely in agreement with the nature of the Greater Will and its "hands". Goldmask to me feels like he’s basically turning himself into a human Two Fingers, directly communing with the Greater Will and thus receiving messages that can only be communicated through the finger movements. On the Dung Eater/Greater Will question - wasn’t it Marika who revived the Tarnished, not the Greater Will? They also all seem to have been revived, regardless of their individual goals or personalities. Regardless, the Greater Will only seems to care that there’s an Order in place regardless of what it looks like, so the Dung Eater ruining everything with his curse isn’t really a concern to it.

I don't know, I don't really buy the interpretation that the finger creepers are related to the Greater Will because of being found around threats to it. I think they're far more associated with sin, blasphemy, and Rykard himself, especially with the line about the finger weapon being cut off in a moment of blasphemy. The Dung Eater's goal is not counter to that of the Greater Will but to that of the Golden Order of Marika. It is the Golden Order that rejects the Omens which are speculated to be a manifestation of the Primordial Crucible, which is very likely what resulted from the Elden Beast colliding with the Lands Between eons ago. Even if Rykard does not have direct control over these things, it's not unheard of godlike beings in myth producing species of creatures from body parts or even bodily excretions.

I think their presence in the Mountaintops rules out any relation to Rykard, yes. Rykard had not been born when the Golden Order conquered and closed off the area, presumably. My idea was that the Golden Order unleashed them on the Mountaintops to exterminate the giants, and -during the Shattering- a much weaker Golden Order under Morgott tried to do the same to Ranni and Rykard in their homes.

To be honest, the lore of Elden ring seems like it had the most rewrites, retcons, material that suffers from lack of information, etc, to the point where I’ve kind of given up on solving it myself. I’ve pretty much decided to hear what Sophie has to say about this farrago of confusion, she’s pretty much always on the mark with the story. Like, I know the Bastard’s Curse has become a bit of a meme or whatever, but it holds up in a lot of ways, I still go back and listen to it on occasion. So whatever Sophie determines is the most likely answer to the Elden Ring Lore mysteries, I’m happy to go with that.
