I'm often asked what wig looks the most natural. Usually, wigs with lace fronts and a lace or monofilament part, or monofilament top, offer the most natural look. We look at 6 wigs with different wig caps. Which do you think looks the most natural?

Julia, you look good in all those wigs. In my almost 17 years of wearing wigs, I've had basic caps, lace front, and a couple of hand tied wigs, and my favorite, and the most natural-looking was the hand-tied wigs. But they are pretty pricey. I also find that in making a wig to look more natural you can apply rooting, and I use permanent fabric markers that are safe and believable. Also, cutting bangs if you can on certain wig types gives it a natural look. I can make my wigs last a little longer than expected, which is a good thing for me. I have a hot air brush and I also like using steam. Lace fronts do need to be trimmed and they end up becoming scratchy in time, but I think a real good lace front can be very natural looking. White Roses, thank you for these fantastic tips! Though it can take practice, a hot air brush or steam can extend the life of a wig. If people are nervous about doing it themselves, many wig salons and stores offer “wig setting” service in cities and metropolitan areas. I’m not sure that’s the proper term. Again, thank you for this great advice!

Well, this was thorough and I think very helpful for people starting their collection. I have a few comments. I have been wearing alternative hair for 13 years. I started with simple synthetics and graduated to remy human hair pieces. First of all, I now only get wigs with lace fronts and full lace tops. Lace looks more natural than monofilament but is more delicate. Wigs of this caliber have to be handled carefully. Also, I make sure I get 120% density only. I am of European descent and so my biohair (which I still have, but it is thinning as I get older) is not and never was coarse or thick, so, ideally I should only get European hair, most of which comes from Ukraine. I do have a couple of those, but they are upwards of $3000, so not something most of us want to indulge in often. Mongolian/Chinese/Brazilian human hair is almost as fine and far less expensive. I take a rattail comb and pull out my own hair along the sides, from the temple to the ears, and brush that back into the wig. It works to make the wig hair and my hair seamless. The other thing I do to the parting is use a pencil eye brush and a high quality foundation powder and just carefully and sparingly daub it along the part. That enables me to take it out and change the part without permanent plucking. And, when I wore non-lace front synthetics, I would just use my rattail comb to pull out my own biohair along the hairline to disguise the non-lace construction. All that said (sorry, I have a lot of experience with this and have purchased over 150 wigs along the way), Jon Renau and Raquel Welch sell exquisite synthetics and I have kept dozens of the ones I bought and especially love to use them in weather, like rain or snow. 😊😊

Hello Liz. I love your great advice, especially using a rat tail comb to pull your hair out to blend in with the wig. This is also helpful around the ear tabs. Ear tabs tend to set high for many people, leaving the bio hair in front of the ears, along the hairline, exposed. I also like the idea of using powder foundation or pencil along the “hair part” to make it more noticeable. Thank you for educating us about human hair wigs!

Wow, I really LOVE the Cambridge wig by Belle Tress~! If you are familiar with Noriko's wig color "Sugar Cane R", how close is the Raw Sugar R to that color?

Sugar Cane-R is a medium honey blonde and ash blonde blend with strawberry highlights and dark brown roots. Raw Sugar Blonde-R is a light golden BROWN base heavily highlighted with neutral dark blonde and a WARM golden platinum blonde with medium brown roots. The colors are not similar as Sugar Cane is cooler and more blonde. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching!
