@@itzanopinion Just pointing that statistically, last year's OL was very much below-par as far as pass pro is concerned. Run blocking, sure, but passing, that was a rough spot esp. at guard. And it was one of their worse performance in the past couple years, so if anything Jimmy had *better* pass pro.

So if you know so much about football, what does a good defense normally support - RB or QB? NFL pundits mix up physical gifts with talent. Trey Lance is physically gifted while Brock Purdy is talented. Physical gifts are potential, talent translates to wins. Physical gifts are more seductive than talent and get a QB drafted earlier than talent.

Yup, it’s doesn’t matter if your coach tells you exactly where to look if you can’t see what you’re supposed to. And even if you can see it that doesn’t mean you’ll find it in time. And if you find it in time you still have to accurately deliver the ball.

People confuse innate physical athleticism with skill. Innate athletic "ability" isn't a talent of skill. It's an "ability" to do a thing. Meaning due to being born with specific physical attributes they're "able" to accomplish certain athletic feats. People who are born with two healthy legs have the "ability" to walk. You see some so-called "dual threat" quarterbacks that aren't actually DUAL threat quarterbacks. Their innate elite level athleticism compensates for their lack of quarterbacks skills. An actual dual threat quarterback CAN pass most if not all of the required passes, consistently and correctly read defenses, lead the offense, manage the game clock, manage stress, make consistent successful decisions especially when under duress, they have accurate field vision and understand what they're seeing and how to adjust, they can move well in and out of the pocket, they can effectively and consistently scramble and/or run when needed. They take risks but know when to be cautious. There are VERY FEW actual dual threat quarterbacks. Mostly, the label dual threat quarterback has been given to quarterbacks that have innate athleticism that run well when under pressure. But they are NOT actually a dual threat. Innate athleticism is genetic. You're born with it. It isn't a talent or a skill. It's an innate ability. Talent is an innate predisposition towards understanding and being naturally inclined to succeed at art, science, mathematics, understanding people, etc. Skill is a developmental process where someone learns a thing and acquires a level of skill in the thing they've studied and developed. One can develop their innate athleticism and use it to become skilled in a thing while using their innate athleticism. If you have innate talent you still need to develop skill in the area of your innate talent. When once has reached the pinnacle of their developed talent and/or skill they are considered an expert. Brock Purdy is athletic but he wasn't born to grow to be a man that's 6' 5' with elite level innate athleticism. For this reason he must find ways to compensate if he wants to compete against men that were born with elite level athleticism. Any innate talent Brock Purdy might have must be developed into skill. This is "why" Brock Purdy is exceptional when it comes to passing with anticipation, timing, touch and rhythm. These are skills he needed to develop in order to compete at the NFL level. His exceptional processing is also a skill he developed in college when he was a full time student and a full time quarterback. He had to study his homework and playbook all in a short amount of time. This prepared him for the NFL and learning the Kyle Shanahan system. While some quarterbacks have more innate physical abilities than Brock Purdy it doesn't matter as long as he learns to maximize what athletic abilities he has and is capable of doing it consistently and can be successful at doing (scrambling, agility, running, passing, faking out defenses, etc.) But casuals don't tend to THINK about any of this. They point at big athletic quarterback and grunt, "Big athletic quarterback is superior!!!" It's all such as waste of time arguing with casuals. They're stuck in their "I don't think for myself" bubble.

Patrick Mahomes benefits greatly from Andy Reid's offensive system. Any casual that thinks otherwise doesn't know what they're watching. BOTH Purdy and Mahomes CAN play outside of the offensive system they operate. Purdy consistently plays outside of Shanahan's system. Mahomes consistently plays outside of Reid's system. Each offensive system is so good it makes the plays appear easy. It makes the quarterbacks look great. The difference is most casuals attribute Purdy's success to Shanahan's system and they attribute Mahomes success to HIM. Without an offensive line in the Super Bowl against Tom Brady the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes were SHUT OUT from scoring a single touchdown. Mahomes did not score a single touchdown. The Chiefs only scored 3 field goals for 9 points. The great Mahomes couldn't overcome being on a less than desirable team. Mahomes had Jason Kelce and Tyreek Hill. Mahomes had great weapons. But without an effective offensive line it wasn't enough to score a single touchdown in the Super Bowl. Fast Forward to the 2023-2024 season Super Bowl. The Chiefs vs the 49ers. In all of regulation Patrick Mahomes didn't score a single touchdown on his own that didn't involve a 49ers' turnover. But nobody dare talk about that without being scolded. It took a Chiefs' punt hitting the foot of Darrel Luter Jr. and Ray-Ray McCloud failing to recover it for Patrick Mahomes to score his ONLY touchdown in all of Super Bowl regulation. The ONLY touchdown Mahomes scored on his own was in overtime against an exhausted 49ers defense. And yet, Mahomes is hailed as some great quarterback. But was he really? In regulation Mahomes threw 8 out of 34 passes under 5 yards. He threw 9 passes behind the line of scrimmage. He only threw 2 completed passes over 15 yards. The final overtime touchdown pass was a short 5 or so yard pass to an unblocked wide receiver in the end zone. Mahomes threw 1 interception and fumbled 5 times (only 1 was unrecovered) in the Super Bowl. If Brock Purdy would have put up these stats even if he won the Super Bowl they'd scream he's a game manager. Purdy would never hear the end of it. But Mahomes is hailed as the greatest quarterback. If this isn't biased groupthink hive mind bullshit I don't know what is. Patrick Mahomes was NOT great in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs defense carried him. Somehow it's "okay" for the Chiefs defense to carry Mahomes but it's not "okay" for the 49ers defense to carry Purdy. The bottom line is this the Chiefs were fortunate the 49ers made as many mistakes as they did and that they suffered as many "in-game" player injuries as they did. Without these things happening I have no doubt the Chiefs would have lost the Super Bowl. I'm not being salty, I'm stating the cold hard facts. The level of Patrick Mahomes worship and how inaccurate "greatest quarterback" narratives are created around him has reached WEIRD levels.

The whole system thing is way overblown. A good playcaller is a playcaller but no matter what the QB has to be able to execute. Never seen a QB be elite without good talent and a good playcaller. What makes Brock better than most think is he did it behind one of the worst pass blocking Olines. It seems an excuse for others but when it comes to Brock it's not even talked about like "this guy is successful despite his Oline." Weird times
