Fun video. The poking of the tape at the end of the grip... why, wouldn't that just make it easier for debree to come into the shaft overtime, not a big concern but I've just never done that, so I am curious why you would do it?
@vanquishgolfworks Жыл бұрын
Thanks Greg! I've been building golf clubs for a long time and neve seen "debris" collect in a golf shaft from having a whole at the end of the grip. I usually just poke it to help get some of the excess solvent out after you've put the grip on. Once you've poked it, you can flip it upside down and tap the butt cap on something a few times to get as much solvent out as possible. That will just make the grips dry a little quicker.

Did you use double stick tape for the air or just masking tape?
@samrad1745 Жыл бұрын
so just to clear up the air app,, is just one sided masking tape all u use with air pressure? or should u use two sided tape and will the air make it slide on just as easy?
@vanquishgolfworks Жыл бұрын
Just use single sided tape when installing it with air. The grip stays on just fine without the tape helping it "stick". Using double sided tape would make it really tricky to install without some kind of lubrication.
@samrad1745 Жыл бұрын
@@vanquishgolfworks your right,, it does work,, just fit 2 grips and removed two and re griped them again.2 tapes on a jumbo grip... I use a bike pump,, hard to hold ,, so I clamped the pump on to my small step ladder..and I used a air comp,, it nearly exploded the grip.. all good in the end. thanks.. @@samrad1745 Yep! Gotta watch out for that air pressure with a compressor. Certain grips aren't made for air install so they can inflate if there's no where for the air to escape.

I misspoke. Why leave one dry side on the double sided tape?
@vanquishgolfworks2 жыл бұрын
Typically double sided tape is used as the "top" layer when installing a grip using solvent. You wrap that tape all the way around the shaft like I did in the video. Then, no matter what, you always cover the entire piece of tape with the solvent and wet everything including the inside of the grip. If installing with air then you can use one sided tape or masking tape. Then you don't have to wet anything. Does that answer your question?

Would have liked to see you try alcohol since it is readily available. Suspect results would have been similar to water, but you never know. I have been using the air method now for about 6 months, and that is my preferred method for my own clubs. You have to pay more attention to the grip core size and shaft diameter using air. A .600" core grip could end up loose if installed on a .580" shaft without adding additional layers of tape.
@vanquishgolfworks Жыл бұрын
Alcohol is a good idea but I think it would work just like water, as you said. Good to know about the extra tape for air.

@Omnis210 ай бұрын
HF-100 is totally awesome and you only need a light mist from a pump sprayer. It's like cologne. Just do a few sprays on the taped shaft over your bathroom sink and the grips slide on super easy. I did all mine by hand, no stupid vice or fancy drip tray. If you're dripping solvent you've used way too much. The little bottle that came with my grips is probably enough to last me the next decade. It's only like a few bucks shipped--- all these other inferior solvents and your dish soap are way more expensive.

Here's what I learned in the past; Acetone is used to REMOVE THE TAPE, there is a water based grip tape that I have used and work very well, the only cost for using air is the purchase of an air compressor and the electricity to operate it, it isn't FREE.

One thing I suggest not doing when u use air. If u ever want to change grips and the one your changing u want to save, don't poke a hole through the end of your grip (as u see him do). Reason, poking a hole will send air down the saft, instead of flowing around the grip. Thus making it really hard to remove if u want to save the grip.
