It's not equal though, because men and women aren't equal. Men are biologically polygamous and women are biologically monogamous for preservation of the human race. My answers: 1. I don't know, it is hard to find an answer for that when the global population is huge and can't be surveyed. 2. I think physical cheating is worse. Anyone can emotionally cheat, e.g. a husband might say to his wife 'oooh I think Jessica Alba is hotter than you' but that doesn't mean that the husband doesn't love his wife more than Jessica Alba, and it doesn't mean that the husband would have sex with Jessica Alba rather than his wife. 3. I think kissing another person who is not the spouse is cheating. I think having sex with someone who is not the spouse is also cheating. Yes, going to prostitutes counts as cheating. 4. I wouldn't mind, as long as the partner comes back to me and as long as she doesn't get STDs. 5. Yes 6. No, even though my wife cheated on me, I still love her and seeing physical violence on her would be too sad to see and it is immoral so I wouldn't do it. 7. If I found the love of my life then would be no reason to cheat. 8. I would stay out of my best friend's business because that is between him and his wife, it's got nothing to do with me. But, I would be disgusted by my best friend's actions. 9. I think women face greater social pressure. In some countries, there is more leniency if the man cheats, but if the woman cheats she could get executed by stoning to death or she could be hounded down by mobs and she will be left as an outcast.

I find it mildly amusing that despite almost all interviewees would concede that women now also cheat at a high rate, some even as high as 60% but none of them would ever cheat under any circumstance, ever. I think emotional cheating can be more difficult to overcome but I can forgive that because emotional cheating can creep on you. You become friends, you share stuff, you start to trust them and share more than your partner, and this may all happen before you even realize or accept you developed feelings for them. Physical - you KNOW what you are doing, you still choose to proceed to cheat.

Fascinating book about life in China a hundred years ago and it was no picnic for women then either. Baby girls were left outside to die and would be eaten by animals at night just like in places like Pakistan where girls would be left out in the sun to die. At least Chinese women have rights today. Caldwell's book is called The China Coast family and you can still find it online.
