Even though most of what Trump says is nonsense, he does have a point in the NATO contribution argument. European NATO members need to start seriously rising their defense budgets. The Europe has to be able to stand for itself, we need to decrease our over-reliance on the United States. That would mean that the future of NATO wouldn't be as reliant on the domestic politics of the US.

I would caution that for Iran, last time Trump was in power, he ripped up the JCPOA agreement. But nonetheless, the fact he is transactional, is eager to cut deals, wants to get credit for it, and probably wants to leave some legacy, he is at least someone the rest of the world can work with. By contrast, there is unlikely to be any opportunities for cooperation with Biden's neocons. Trump's deal with North Korea could serve as a basis of what Iran could reach with Trump as President.

Of course, we are turning isolationists. If Japan didn't attack us, we probably would still be isolationists today. Americans have been funding the security and prosperity of the world and development of human society with our blood and money since WW1. Human species moved away from colonialism, slavery and land grab wars. We connected the world in hopes of avoiding major wars. Yet, when Russia attacked, the world did not condemn it willfully, protecting the foundation of our post WW2 world. Now China/BRICS is actively wanting change, which has caused a rift and wars erupting, and will continue to. Europe has yet to realize the world around them has changed and trying to "De-risk" rather than de-couple" from people who have declared war on your way of life. You have all shown investment to prevent wars is not wanted, so our only option left is to become isolationist. The world no longer remembers WW1, WW2, and the world before that, so they take for granted a US led order not realizing what was before.
