It's not so much a mystery but rather KZbin playfully going along with the theme. He was manually contacted by KZbin asking permission if they could stop the counter at 301 to add to the experience of the video while he will have access to the real view count 🙂

All the videos doesn’t has it’s own serial numbers, so with multi language inputs, some tower PC couldn’t find the same video that’s on the tablets or smartphones, I knows the search on the serial numbers could comes up with 10 to 20 search results due to millions of videos , talk about refreshing the serial numbers that has been used, but it’s better than not able to find the video at all. But on different platforms of iOS and Android, the same video channel may has limited numbers of video present comparing to each others. So after all those years, yes it’s pathetic to see humankind are this useless that KZbin has no serial numbers for each videos so they can be searched on English only Sony TV and tower PC, while the same video can be found on tablets with Chinese language input , etc … … Yeah, I know you said there are synching between PC and tablets,etc … … but then there are hackers and there are down times that need waiting for them to fix it, waiting for updates , etc … … yep, this planet is this pathetic!

4:27 I *REALLY* recommend a browser addon "Annotations Restored for KZbin" - it does one simple thing - re-add annotations to videos that originally had them (before youtube dropped them, there was a massive effort to back up all of the annotations, and a very very big majority, even on less popular videos is backed up) This is a must when watching older videos, especially the interactive ones where you could make choices by clicking annotations in video. (and also corrections ppl added to their videos like he said in the video)

I mean Markiplier was able to pull off the "Choose your own adventure" type fine without em. Also, there was a good reason. It was totally abused for many wrong reasons you can find with a quick online search and Instead of annotations, KZbin wants creators to embrace end screens and cards. Not only do they look a lot more professional, but by default they work on mobile devices. Cards can be used to point viewers to a website, show image overlays, titles, or even to embed a poll for viewers to respond to.

3:48 I agree with this, but i also miss the stars/dislike counter. It makes it way easier to sort out scams/misinformation without having to scroll through the comments. as far as i know, yts algorithm rewards any interaction, whether that is a like or a dislike, a positive or a negative comment. Even if hundreds of thousands of people dislike a video, yt will just see this as hundreds of thousands of interactions and view it as popular and promote it further. If we cant see a bad rating or dislike ratio, its way harder for consumers to tell if something is real

Speaking of the lofi hip hop stream, this isn't the first time this happened to them. The reason the stream was 2 years long and not longer was because this happened multiple times. For 8:21, all you actually have to do it is (if you think you won't be able to remember the method mentioned), on a laptop, go to the share button and press it, then tick the checkbox for the timestamp you want the shared video to start at and then share the video (all these steps for sharing link can be done on the browser version of KZbin on a laptop).

8:10 Pro tip: You can just go to the part you want to timestamp, click on the usually forgotten "Share" button underneath the video, and click "Start at". It will automatically create a link with the correct timestamp at your current point in the video, or you can choose a different timestamp. Or, you could always use the feature intended for this, the Clip feature, and just share a clip of the video that shows what you want to show friends. This works a lot better because you can specify an end point.

For example, years ago I had a German online mate that studied history, and he was very frustrated with KZbin as there were so many WW2 videos, he simply could not see. If the video got plenty of views but few likes it usually means that is rather controversial or not liked yet viral... Dislikes were killed during the pandemic, people happily disliked factually correct videos about lockdowns and mask requirements just because people were frustrated about what they learned in the video, in the same manner, gun control videos were notoriously disliked discouraging others to make videos about inconvenient facts like if people countering misinformation were anti-democracy or something. I would personally disable both the like and dislike buttons as they allow creating a profile about you which can be stolen if Google servers are hacked and used for targeted ads during the election as was already done by Cambridge Analytica. If you cannot provide constructive criticism about why you don't like watched video, your opinion in form of a like or dislike did not matter anyway... Of course, companies wants all the sweet metadata customers are happily providing them for free despite being well known that metadata are being bought by the governments to avoid law restrictions on citizen spying and were used to decide against which person send a drone airstrike. Trust me, you can live without a like/dislike button, just imagine the time saved on every youtube video in which KZbinrs beg you to give them a like, as if begging for a free good rating in a TV show or movie using an actor with a sad puppy face would not be considered completely out of touch with the audience, not to mention that since KZbinrs learned that more comments mean a better chance of video being promoted in KZbin video suggestions page, nowadays all KZbinr are seriously interested about your opinion, because of course they are...

@@IonorRea Words. And, I agree with the disabling of both the like and dislike buttons. With just the dislike button disabled, KZbinrs may think they got a high like/dislike ratio, meanwhile the dislikes are skyrocketing and none of their videos get on the front page. While disabling the dislike button in 2020 because people are stupid and believe in nonsense, neither should have existed in the first place. They serve no real purpose but to put videos on the front page. Do those people that liked get special recognition? No, because then the videos would be about a day long. Likes and dislikes combine together and make the KZbin society fall into shambles. I've also noticed that people start begging for likes now. What if people don't like the video by the end? Are you gonna cry because you got 149,999 likes instead of the original 150,000? If you don't have a reason that actually exists for disliking a video, that one dislike really didn't make a difference anyway. I won't be nuked, killed, or have my IP leaked because I didn't like a crappy video with blasting audio and a seven year old voice that comes with it.
