I was in Waikiki when the ballistic missile alert came out. Following that experience, I've come to the conclusion that I'd prefer to try to be at the impact zone of the nuke, immediately begin jerking it. My goal is to synchronize my explosion with the blast wave of the nuke and try to die in as much bliss as possible without having to try to live through a post-nuke world.

That incident in 1969 wasn't the first time during the Cold War that America threatened a nuclear attack against us. General MacArthur wanted to use nukes against us during the Fatherland Liberation War in the 50s and thankfully Truman fired him for it...MacArthur totally forgot which two nations are right on our northern border

love how pressing the wrong button caused Hawaii to go full panic made, same thing happened in my freshman year of high school, where the call button in the office was right next to the Level Three Lockdown button, which basically means there is an active threat (usually shooter) on campus. Let me tell you the absolute horror my classmates and I felt while hiding under our desks listening for gunshots is near indescribable

Kwite: Cuban Missile Crisis Me, the Cubano: *I've been summoned* I participated in a historical Model UN committee back in 2019 where it was all socialist nations and I represented Romania, one of the topics was the Cuban Missile Crisis and let's just say...it didn't end well for the US and Europe in general. Everyone was just clobbering Turkey like nothing...guess that's karma for what they did to Armenia. And while the missile crisis has ended, the Cuban embargo remains a remnant from that era. Imo embargoing a nation because they have opinions you don't like is the same energy as what FL Governor DeSantis and his party is doing to Disney's Reedy Creek improvement district by dissolving it...because they spoke out in support of a community against a bill

Not nuclear, but the SS Montgomery sank in the UK in shallow water and was never dealt with which wouldn't be a problem were it not for the absolute shit ton of explosives on board! There is an exclusion zone around the wreck so nobody crashes into it and becomes their own home made firework show, but the bombs also now carry the risk of going off on their own. This would cause carnage, with a 1-5 metre wave and every window in the nearby town of Sheerness breaking. Still, the beach near the wreck is lovely!

Great video, really liked the change of topic to something relevant for once. This one hits pretty close to home, literally. I live in an area that's like a Tier 1 or whatever they officially call it priority target (probably several, but there's one realllly close by). It's a major hub of the entire eastern seaboard's comm network, even has several stories of underground levels. There's also quite a lot of decommissioned Nike missile silo sites in the general area, super cool. A few friends of mine used to rent a house up in the hills a couple towns over that was like a mile from one of the sites.
