If you must look for a slum in a Chinese city, this is the Chinese slum. In China, they are called urban villages. Nowadays, the "urban villages" in the central areas of various cities in China have been almost transformed. Now urban villages generally exist at the junction of the suburbs of the city and the countryside.

I understand life. Not everyone is fortunate. You will always have your haves and have nots. That comes down to personal choice, output of performance and risk. Some people are just comfortable where they are at. Everyone wants to be successful but not everyone wants to put in the xtra effort to get there.

我只想说，这里的房子很值钱。看房屋的结构、外观，就知道都是之前村里的能人拥有的房产。房主应该很有钱。外来务工人比较喜欢这样的房子，租着便宜。到处很干净。

Even that is a nicer place than rural America. The worst of China can never beat the worst of America. Oakland is a great example of third world living in a first world country.
