It always makes me wonder if maybe a couple of hundreds of years from now, when archaeologists dig up the lost cities in the deserts that are now being buried in the sand, and come across buildings with graffiti and call them petroglyphs. Or maybe they'll make up a new name for those. lol

Interesting thought. I suppose it all depends on how long the paint lasts. If it breaks down before anyone digs up the buildings then nobody from the future will even know it was there.

They would be called pictoglyphs..not petroglyphs. The difference is that pictoglyphs are painted on the rocks and petroglyph are carved into them.

Utah is an awesome place to visit. There are so many super cool land-before-time parks to see. You should make next year be in Utah. You could spend the winter in southern New Mexico and then head up to Utah in the spring. There's Bryce Canyon, Moab, Canyonlands, etc. While you are in southern New Mexico you could visit Carlsbad Caves and Grants has camping, a volcano, a cave, & mining.

Sally when you were talking about the beautiful scent of the blossoms on the bush there is another that is the opposite. Many parts of the desert have sage brush but no bees are available. When the sagebrush blooms the scent given off is kind of a cross between poop and something dead. This attracts flys who think it's something gross to lay their eggs in. When they discover it isn't they fly to another with the same result and this cross pollinates the brush.

Awesome video! I haven't been through the gap in a very long time. I had no idea that they had put in the signs and pathways for the petroglyphs. Glad they did! You can find both petroglyphs (and pictographs) and dinosaur footprints in various places in Utah. Dino fossils can be found a bunch of places in Utah, but, like petroglyphs and pictographs they seem to be a bit more common on the eastern side of the state. Someone here said you should spend the colder months in southern NM and venture up into SE Utah next Spring - GREAT idea! The whole 4 Corners region has a ton to offer an inquisitive traveler. Plus, Spring is less crowded and a lot cooler. BUT, get some hiking shoes dagnambit! Grrrrr, don't want you or Marty turning an ankle up some canyon somewhere.

As I'm watching your video about Beaver Utah, I'm reminded of my trips to Manderfieild, just north of there. If you drive up to Manderfield ditch and then turn right onto the dirt road of the same name, it will take you up Squaw creek canyon where an awful lot of gold mining has taken place. I've found quite a bit of gold there by panning for it 😀. PS. Your traveling companion is kind of a wuss, I've driven up roads in an old Subaru Legacy wagon that only has about 4" of ground clearance, but he won't drive his truck over even the mildest terrain.

Was excited to watch this video. Parowan Gap area is so interesting! That is a lot of tumbleweeds!! We have run across them in our trips through southwest. Yes there could be a lot of meanings behind Petroglyphs. Why do people always leave carvings with their names , etc!!! So irritating!! Btw, always love the hats you wear.Thanks for pointing out some of the petroglyphs! Btw, my wife would wear flip-flops also while hiking around places. Yours look like the same one she wears. Good question: art or language? You can hear some of the birds in the area. Glad to see the sign for the dinosaur tracks. Hope you guys didn't get too winded walking through the areas. The rock with the indentations in it could be grinding rocks used by native Americans. I am glad you been exploring Utah. Marty is definitely quite the guy. You two are wonderful together. Excellent video. Enjoyed very much!

Hi, Sally. I thought that Utah has arid deserts with mountain range topography, and small mountains and rugged terrain, and salt lakes are composed to the landscape in Utah after I saw this video. Thus, I think Utah is so dry area because of subdiction of oceanic crust in this area from 50~160 million years ago. Anyway, I always thank you for your video and driving scenes. Washington Route 7, is very pretty. Route 7 from Route 161 to US 12. Interstate 90 is pretty too. From Issaquah, Washington to Ellensburg, Washington. Even West to Mercer Island, Washington is pretty. Seattle looks pretty good too, but not worth it anymore. Besides, Seattle is full of crime now. Seattle was better pre 2017. Post 2021, Seattle is horrid. West to Mercer Island is pretty.
