Well first of all you should lease a horse for e few years to get the feel of owning a horse you would be taking care of the horse and learning responsibility for it and if you think its not much pressure or hard work for you to take care of your horse you should be ready to know when you can buy your own horse!

You have to have quite a bit of money saved, though, incase your horse/pony develops a medical condition and if you don't have enough money, you are forced to put your animal down or to sleep, which is very sad and heartbreaking to the owner who has builded an immense bond with the animal, and to the animal since they couldn't live a full life.

I do recommend getting long lines for lunging, especially when one is expecting a fresh type of horse or a younger one, because sometimes you have to lunge them before riding. Furthermore, I think a riding stick is very beneficial when working with horses that are a bit on a lazy side, or if they ignore you when using leg aids. Other than these, I think this is a nice summary, and I was not sure what to buy exactly before owning a horse, and ended up leaving some of these items. For instance, getting buckets is a really important thing that I didn’t buy before the arrival, and that was not so nice when I couldn’t find anything to put water in to get the tack cleaned after a muddy ride.
