My parents just surprised me with a horse a couple days ago so this was really helpful. It’s the middle of winter in Ontario so it is freezing (-27C when I rode today) so we need a lot of stuff. He came from Germany so we couldn’t get the size till he got here and most of the stuff is to small. This video has helped a lot knowing things we may still need to get.

The "5 gallon" bucket that you keep your grooming supplies in is a 1-1.5 gallon and The "10 gallon" water bucket is a 5 gallon. A 10 gallon bucket is going to weigh 80 lbs and they come with 2 hand holds in the rim, not a wire handle.

I don't own a horse but the park I walk at has horses and I've seen most of the things you've mentioned. The fly mask had me curious about, lol the different horses personality are fun to see. There are some that can't be bothered as they either sleep or are eating, but then there are the ones who act like I can go into the restricted area and take them for a walk. They stop whatever they are doing to find the equipment and try to open their stall door. I've been able to pet two horses cause they've walked up to the fence and interact with me. 🤗 the others whose always ready to go for a walk stall is further away. 🙃

One thing I noticed after I bought my first horse. Get a rope halter before the horse they are basically one size fits all. But nylon halters are far from one size fits all, get that after you know their size
@gigihorseyspam2 жыл бұрын
I would suggest for a new horse owner to buy a saddle after, because sometimes you will buy a saddle then once the horse comes, it wouldn’t fit. Where as if you bought the saddle after, you could fit them.

Thank you so much for this! These things have been on my mind, along with wondering which items a boarding stable might provide vs what I should expect to purchase. Horse ownership is something I have been gradually preparing for at least 2 years now (with much help from you). I appreciate you so much and just love your fun personality! I'm saving up for a horse right now but I want to get loaded up on money and continue saving for about two more years. I want to make sure I have a lot of money ready for my horse. My parents don't know because I'm afraid that they'll shut down my idea though. I guess that's a little bit of Imposter S. getting in my way. Thank you for this vid. I hope that when I do tell my parents I want to buy my own horse that they will accept that.

Ik im so late to this, but when it was posted I had no reason to watch this cause I just started riding, But now almost 3 years into riding I saw a horse for sale online, she near me, in my price range and so perfect. And im actually going to try her out this weekend and im so very exited. My parents are the opposite of “Horsey” people but I got lucky by finding a great stable and trainer to help me. Can’t wait to see if this will work out for my first horse!!!😅

Great timing on this video. We will be picking up the two mustangs we adopted in the beginning of March. So we are putting together the final list of items we will need for the first few months. We don’t need to worry about saddles and bridles for several months.

How exciting! There is a lot that goes into owning a horse, especially one that isn’t tame and broke yet. I would definitely work with a experienced horse person and or trainer. Wild horses aren’t exactly the greatest pick of a horse for a beginner, but they’re super fun if you know what your doing!

My horse doesn't go to shows, and his coat gets thick and fury during the winter. Do you still need a blanket if that's the case?
@SnowySpiritRuby2 жыл бұрын
It would at least somewhat depend on what type of accommodations you're keeping him in. Our horses grow their heavy winter coats (we don't clip at all) and are pastured 24/7 (our barn actually doesn't have any stalls - we use it only for storing tack and other equipment, and the horses aren't allowed inside (the ceiling is actually almost too low for a horse to fit inside anyway)), so even if they're still a little damp when we turn them out (we dry them off as much as we can before we turn them out), they have the freedom to move around as much as they want, which will keep them warm, and therefore dry them off the rest of the way. Because of that, unless there's a horse that's having a really hard time staying warm (or a hard time keeping on weight) despite their winter coat (we've had a couple over the years, but not recently, so we do have a couple blankets on hand - a bigger, heavier one that fits the larger horses, like the thoroughbred, and a smaller, lighter weight one that fits the smaller horses, like the QHs), we have no reason to blanket any of them. That being said, the year I was going to school and had to have a horse on campus, I only had access to an outdoor pen and an indoor stall, so even though my horse grew a thick winter coat just fine (again, no clipping), if it was snowing heavily - particularly if it was wet snow - I still blanketed, and fed extra hay at night, because the snow made him wet, but unlike our other horses, he didn't have enough space to run around to dry off and keep warm. Even if the weather wasn't wet enough to blanket, if he was sweaty at all after riding, I dried him off as best I could, and made sure to fluff up the wet hair so that it wouldn't dry plastered against his skin (if it did, it would make it hard for him to puff it up to keep warm). Ultimately, the decision is up to you, but I hope that helps at least a bit.

Not a horse guy, but your 5 gallon bucket doesn't look anywhere near 5 gallons. Neither does the 10 gal one. Look at that and then a 5 gallon bucket from Home Depot or Lowes...someone is lying about sizes!Are you really carrying 83 pounds of water at a time? (10 gal +83 pounds) But I love your videos
@SnowySpiritRuby2 жыл бұрын
I have buckets the same sizes and the green ones she shows, so I can tell you that the one she calls a 5 gallon bucket is actual a 2-2 1/2 gallon one, and the one she calls a 10 gallon bucket is actually a 5 gallon one. But depending on the situation, yes, sometimes we end up carrying 10 gallons of water at once (a filled 5-gallon bucket in each hand). Based on how big I know a 55 gallon barrel is, I think the water tubs she says hold 50-100 gallons hold about 65 and 85 gallons, though it's a little hard to tell because of the angle - the one in front looks like it holds about 65 or 70 gallons, the back one (if it's the size I think) is closer to 85 or 90.

Good useful content but you lose credibility when you say “you need a 10 gallon bucket” while holding a 3-gallon bucket. Your brush bucket is probably not 5 gallon either…
