I remember when I got my first cav. I had everything to collect her. Crate, blanket with a ticking heartbeat dog toy so she could hear her mothers heartbeat, lead, toys, water, food etc. I burst into tears when I got her and the breeder asked me why I was crying. I said I was so sad to take her away from her dog mummy and I was sad for the day that she would pass away. The breeder told me I was the right person for Sophie. Also she asked me why I had everything but the kitchen sink with me. She handed me my wee Sophie and collected everything I brought and walked me back to my car with Sophie. I kept in touch with the breeder throughout all her life. Sophie has passed away now, but I remember it like it was yesterday. Thank you for your channel as it brings back the wonderful memories of all four of my cavs that have now passed away, but live on forever in my heart.

Thank you so much for this video! We will be bringing home a new Cavalier puppy this fall. We just lost our 14-year-old Blenheim girl earlier this year, and our Tri-color boy is almost 11, so it has been a long time since the puppy days and I'm grateful for a refresher! I was interested to see you mention the flea comb. Do you typically use prescription/medicinal flea prevention on your adult dogs? Just curious.

We only use a treatment like Nexguard if we have a severe infestation. I'm a bit hesitant, because there have been some severe reactions to these drugs, as well as to topical treatments. For routine flea control, bathing and combing does just fine.

@@chaskat35 What products do you reccomend to to wash a puppy with to get rid of or minimize fleas? Also is it harmful to have pest control come out and spray your home, front and back yard to prevent or get rid of fleas? Last question for now; I saw the puppy carrier for planes; how do you feed and give your puppy water during the flight, how do you take care of potty issues and should you ask your Vet about air sickness or car sickness meds to use as a preventative? It's hard for me to say - I love them all! I personally don't find any relationship between color and personality or health, which are the two most important factors. If it makes a difference, the Blenheims are much more prevalent than the Tricolors, so it might just be a difference between a highly recognizable color and one that's a little more unusual.

Hi Dee Dee, I just found a Maltese breeder just 40 miles away from me. I had no idea she was there. I found out from my Groomer. Ask around, you might be happily surprised.

Try going to a dog show if visitors are allowed and meet breeders. You will need to check the times when your breed is on. This is the best way to meet REPUTABLE breeders. Good luck.

That was such an informative video! What size crate and carrier would you recommend for pups/adult Cavaliers? I wasn't sure if adult Cavaliers would be small enough to fit in a travel carrier under the seat of a plane, but they do? Would we also need a puppy pen? Summer was so cooperative during your demonstration! She didn't squirm one bit! And she looked just as cute as Jamba did wearing a snood! I'm sure it'll be a tough decision on which one to keep from this litter as they are all soooo cute, and each so special in their own way! ❤️❤️❤️

The crate is 13 x 22 inches, and that's plenty big for an adult Cavalier. For a young puppy, you'll need to use the divider, so the puppy doesn't sleep in one end, and pee in the other.

The pet carrier is 11 x 16, and I've used it lots of times to take Cavaliers of all ages on flights. Just make sure your Cavalier isn't overweight, because most airlines have a weight limit - usually 25 lbs for dog and carrier combined. But it fits fine under the seat, and the dogs are quite content.

At 10 weeks, the puppy should be fully weaned and able to tolerate solid food. You can use a good quality puppy kibble (I use Royal Canin Small Breed Puppy), soaking it in warm water for 5-10 minutes to soften it. You can add a Puppy Starter Mousse for additional nutrition and taste, or a small amount of fiber cereal like Weetabix soaked in goat's milk.

The crate is 13 inches by 22 inches. With a young puppy, we use a divider to cut that area in half.

The divider looks like it might make the crate uncomfortably small depending on the size and breed of the puppy. I definitely agree with never using the flexilead leashes. I used to have them as well and what happened with my dog, is the line broke and he was able to run free. This happened with more than one but after the second one did it, I got a regular leash. Thankfully my dog noticed that he was not on his leash and he right away turned back when I called him. Had he not listened, only God knows what could have happened. He probably noticed the panic in my voice as well.

For Cavaliers and other small breeds, you need the divider. Otherwise, the puppy can sleep in one end and pee in the other, and the whole idea behind crate training is defeated.

Okay that makes sense. I was thinking that the puppy would have to be left alone in there too. For instance when the owner has to go to work or leave them home, it seemed like it would be harsh to keep a puppy/dog in such a small space for so long. The next puppy I take home, I’m definitely going to crate train him the way you showed it. My dog now will not go in his crate. He has a terrible marking issue that I can’t seem to break him of. He is a Malshi breed.

We have a friend who makes them by hand, and sells them at dog shows. But you can find them by searching on line - lots of folks on Etsy who sell them.

You didn’t explain why the crate needs to have the divider or did I miss it?? Also, no bed in the crate because it might get peed on?
