@reptilegarden

You can just get a connector block to connect the pins to the wire and plug. We sell wire and plug kits but most hardware and electrical stores will have them. Even some convenience stores that are open late. Doesn't matter which is line or neutral. Best of luck and hope you come right.

The laminated pads are placed under glass enclosures andnthere foil pads are placed inside the wooden enclosures. We often protect the heating pad with a tile on top that is twice the size of the heating pad.

Never seen such a relaxed black mamba before! Only ones I've seen on our farm are fast as lightning, same with the green mamba. Honestly the last green mamba I saw I thought had jet propulsion the way it flew through the branches in a dead straight line from one tree to the next and next, it was gone in a flash. Boomslangs are much much more laid back and will hang around sometimes for days draped over the same branches, the hatchings and juveniles very happy to climb right past your nose stopping to take a look along the way with those huge beautiful eyes. I know it's been asked but how do you connect those two wires from a heat mat to a plug and thermostat. I can get car-seat heater pads and those used for the medical industry in various sizes and shapes with a sticky backing which get very much hotter than reptile mats, they need a good thermostat, they also arrive with just two wires capped with points. Are those wires safe un-housed in casing, can they touch each other, whats the story? Does the plug you put on the end plug into the thermostat? Or do the wires pass through the thermostat from plug to mat or do you need to cut them and connect in and out of the thermostat? I need to do a bit of DIY on this as we also don't get the ZooMeds and stuff, they're also from past experience when I could get them quite unreliable in both temp regulation, measurement and so heat output. Any help on this might also save frying users in their havaianas 🥲

Hi, these pads with the pins in the end must not be cut off. We use electrical block connectors on the tips. Google for images. The power would come from the plug to power the thermostat then go to the heat pad. Heating elements for cars etc will be 12V so you don't want to put 110v or 220v on those. I hope this helps with your questions.
@equestanton1017
@equestanton1017 2 жыл бұрын
@@reptilegarden Thank you yes I know what the block connectors are. So the pad points go in one side and the thermostates points go in the other then you plug in the thermostate? Do most thermostates have wires for connecting to a pad plus a plug? Just reading one suitable sized round silicone car seat heater mat, it says it can maintain consistent tempersture of up to +300%C, 8W, 12V DC. Etched foil elements. So this thing i couldn't plug into my mains which are 220V? For 8W that sure is a high temp, reptile mats of 8W rarely, but depending on ambient temps get much higher than 25%C! Why would this be?
@reptilegarden
@reptilegarden 2 жыл бұрын
@@equestanton1017 the only way you can use 12v from 220v is to have a converter in-between. Most heat pads will get hotter than what is required and this is why we use thermostats. Most times heat pads don't help to raise ambient temperatures sobyou need heat emitters etc for that.

Hi. How long does the 14 watt heatpad takes to reach 43 degree celcius? Thanks.
@reptilegarden
@reptilegarden 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andre, there are a few variables at play here. It would depend on the ambient air temperature, materials it is in contact with etc. They do warm pretty quickly but if the ambient temps are low and the materials in contact with the pad take some heat it may not even get to those temperatures. I think I left these pads on for an hour before testing so as to get them hot. Sorry I can't be more clear on an answer.

@reptilegarden 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Bearded Dragons are great pets if you have the aspects covered. I am not a huge fan of heat pads with them but they will work for a night time warm spot. As in the wild rocks heat up in the day and retain a lot of heat at night. So I would go with a basking spot during the day and the heat pad warrm at night but lower as in 25 deg c or lower. Often you can turn off all heating with the Beardies as they are hardy and night time drops are food. Maybe just some parts of the world you may need to keep them warmer at night. Thermostat are a must with heat pads. You don't want to but they tail or toes of your Beardie. If you SA based you can shop this site of ours. See reptile-garden-sa.myshopify.com/

@@triple_threat6368 yeah you can use a heat emitter in a day/night thermostat as then you can set different temperatures. Otherwise what I like is a heat projector but best connected to a dimmerstat. Then UVB exoterra 150 or 200 compact. We have 90cm long tubes just not on the shop and we also stock Mega Ray compact UVB aswell as all in one bulbs. Also check the solar glow from Exoterra. There are all option of which will work so you can research each and make a decision.

Just check that you have power coming out the thermostat and settings are correct. You could connect a light etc. Some people cut off he steel tip ends of the heat pads which is bad and connection will not work properly or it will be very difficult to fix. Block connectors are best.

I feel just fine. Kidding. You should have a thermostat on it so if it does blow you will see the temperature is not correct and you can fix it. If you are going them in a racking system it is good to have a temp gun to check each tub. You could also have a thermometer in each but they don't just pop. If the wires get pulled you can loose a connection othwrwise they are very hardy. I have only ever had one that popped and the wire had a black dot and the connection was broken. They are very safe as long as you don't have a bundle of heat cable tied to it's self. Always keep the wires apart as best you can.

All heat pads are straight forward and have two wires that you connect to live and neutral. If you have the foil type you need a block connector for the metal pins.

I was wondering if I can have 2 heating pads next to eachother underneath a plastic bin hooked to a thermostat without causing a fire?
@reptilegarden
@reptilegarden 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that shouldn't be an issue just which heat pad will you be controlling? as with rack systems if the heat pad with the probe fails all other heat pads will work full on. So as long as your animal has a cool side to escape to that is fine. Just make sure you don't squash wires under tubs or into each other. Then you will have no issues. These foil pads are very safe but laminated pads can get damaged. So laminated pads are perfect for under glass cages at prescribed.

Ok just to make sure before I put the heat pad, do I stick the foil heat pad inside the tank or the underside (I got Coco husk in the tank)
@reptilegarden
@reptilegarden 3 жыл бұрын
If your tank is glass you can place underneath. If wood place inside and stick it to a tile that is about twice the size. Check it works and then you can silicone it in place. Just note husk is a good insulator so heat struggles to get though. Maybe keep substrate a bit thinner over the heat pad and control with a thermostat.
