My gaming rig just died so I have not tested this, but I think you may be misinterpreting the term effectiveness when it comes to food. My understanding is that it refers to the amount of health produced and not the percentage of the diet. Effectiveness of Oats is 60%. If you fed nothing but Oats, the horses health would never go over 60%. The same applies to hay. If you fed nothing but hay, the horses health would never go over 40%. As long as you have some of each in the trough the exact mixture is irrelevant. There may be an optimum mixture that lets you run out of both at the same time. That may or may not be a 60-40 split, but that would take further testing.

It somewhat both. If you feed pigfood you will notice that the total food bar is 100% while all the individual food bars fill up the exact % that is shown in the description below the food bars. If you only feed 1 source of food their overall productivity will not be greater than that % but ti also now seems to equil the % of the total if you feed a mixed food lke pigfood.

For horses i think breeding them would be at 4 yrs cause at 2 they're still considered fillies/ colts. Same for riding, though it depends on breeds and health of the horse so some people start riding them at 2 yrs. There doesn't seem to be any breeds in this game, just coat colors so we have no way of knowing what breed these horses are other than observation... For the barns (they should be called stables) the places that need straw are called 'stalls'. You were correct ^^ Basic horse gaits are walk, trot, canter & gallop. There are also collected gaits and extended gaits aswell as the working trot & canter. Loved the video ^^ Have a great day!

I completely agree on the riding mechanics. The collision box and jumping for the horse are terrible, way worse than FS19. I really hope they fix this. The food source is annoying, but not as bad as the riding. There really should be a feed trough for grain and a separate feeder for hay. I also hope to see the first person camera return soon so I don't have to see that fake jumping animation.

The time frame for reproduction in the game is 22 months once they reach 22 months they can reproduce.

I have a feeling that this time around horses are going to be a thing you do because you want to be able to ride horses, not a major profit center, the labor per dollar is much higher for them than for chickens but I suppose that's reflective of reality. I think in this case because it's possible to leave bales just sitting on the trigger what you could do if you accidentally filled up a horse pen to 100% with oats is just leave a hay bale sitting on the trigger and any room the horses create in the trough will automatically be filled, they eat a liter of oats and that liter gets refilled with hay right away.

That's pretty much how I approach it. I use a grain trailer to meter out grain feed, then I set a bale there to meter out on it's own. It kinda works.

The multiple food source issue is a problem because the health will not reach 100% unless you have both Oats and Hay. I filled up on Oats and until I was able to add hay it stayed at 0%. The system will correct itself in a single month and in the end it comes down to having it balanced for the month you intend to sell the horse but yes, it's a glitch.

@@FarmerKlein Well, most of the bugs are ignored right now, as Giants don't even have a planned timeline for patches (confirmed by a CM). I submitted 12 bugs on my own, right on release day, guess what, all of them came back as "Already fixed" ... closing in of 2 weeks later and all of them are still there Giants totally dropped the ball with this release :(

@@Oroberus There have been no patches. Im sure the updates were intended to say fixed in future patch. Thats what I got back on the 3 of the 8 that I have sent in that have been opened. Giants posted on the forum they plan to release a patch before Christmas. There working toward a single large patch by the end of the working year as opposed to several updates as it is a rather involved process to get updates pushed out via Sony and MS.

@@FarmerKlein Quite possible but with no communication and to this very day basic functions of the game not working it's just a pathetic mess, given the fact how many people work at giants and how long, compared to FS19, they took for FS22. There either was no QA/Playtesting/Bugfixing done pre release OR the game was in such a desolate state, that even with QA/Bugfixing/Playtesting they still released in a mere 60% ready manner, a real shame :( Just go check your missions.xml and the expected litres of harvest you have to bring for Wheat, Oat or Barley harvest to fullfill the contract, it's 4 times the amount you can actually harvest from a field, meaning, you never can fullfill a harvest contract for those ;)

I have noticed if you need to ride a horse that's inside the paddock and won't leave, just get on it inside and get off, he should walk outside, just like in the vid when you wanted show you can't leave through the door.

I agree with you on the feeding thing, especially when bales are involved. However, maybe the ability to fill a trough to 100% is not the problem but the inability to take out food is. PS4. -I’ve noticed that too where you once you put food in you can’t put any other types in. I’ve noticed that actually for a while now when I started with cows. I just go with the higher percentage. That’s the only advice I can give because it’s all that we can do like you say.

I was hoping they would fix horses a bit. Sure they made money in FS19 but they were tedious and very boring. I would not even mind the current price, if you only had to ride them every few days, or every season, and they had cool things like saddles, horse shoes, wagons and plows. Maybe some equipment to help cleaning would be cool as well...heck a good brush animation. They should be the coolest animal on the farm, not more useless than chickens...which were always my least favorite in the game...and even they are quite profitable in fs22.

Regarding the food thing i dont mind it that mutch but i have another issue with it. If u have always used baled hay then yeah this change will be a pain in the ass when u cant control how mutch of the bale u will use. But if u prefer to use loose material then i like this change purely for the fact that we have always been able to overfill the food area to the point that animals dont need food refill for about 10-14 gamedays or more and that honestly was a terrable design ide. The only reson u went to your animals after filling up there food and water before was to clean the food area and that shouldent be the case. Now we kinda have to watch roughly how mutch we put in there becouse there is a total amount limit and there we have the issue i was refering to. I would say this system is good aslong as we can se what the total amount is before we start to dump food in. Lets say we have 6 horses and the total amount would be for example 20k and we could se that. Now we know we can still use a 9k hay bale without filling up 80% of the total food limit. If u dont have that many animals and a lower total food amount then u just cant use a full bale and u need to use loose material or even better make use of the new smaller 600L Hay bales. When i first saw the (bales) video i couldent find a use for those tiny bales but they would be perfect for a scenario like this when u are dealing with low numbers of animals or u just wanna add abit of food but not max it out compleatly.

In the base game of 19 you could only add enough food to last for 3 in game days, if you were able to do more it was due to a mod. If you were using Seasons that duration would be shortened to 2 days.

@@joshuadoll9000 if that were the case then there must have been a change somewhere. I dident do mutch with animals but without mods and without seasons the food supply for horses lasted a minimum of 7-8 days. I only needed to fill up 1 or 2 times at most when training horses that i remember.

That would likley be the tmie that if you left the horse outside the pen it would spawn back in the pen. Horses are smart they get tired of waiting on you and just go home.

So far I've tried sheep, horses, and chickens. Definitely needs some balancing work imo... Horses are the most hands on of the three of these and by far the least profitable. From what I could tell at a certain point each horse will continuously go up in value a little over a hundred dollars a day and that's it. Pretty awful considering each horse needs two minutes of riding when you consider chickens just need food and a large chicken coop will make enough eggs to net you well over 100 grand a year on easy economy.

Seems crazy that giants add features in previous games that don't make it into the next one, or not as it was. If we could hire a person to run the horses and feed them, and get atleast 10k a horse I would invest in them, but they require too much attention.

not sure about horses but my cows have been sitting at 100% productivity and health on just tmr, i don't think you NEED to use both food types. mind you, thats cows, as i said im not sure about horses (have not yet done horses in 22)

I have a small barn for them from a mod,costed €10.000 and i have 2 horses i bought but there is a roof over the food and water and it makes it hard to feed them. My horses have 16 months and after 22 they will reproduce. I think it will be one little horse at the time but i need another stable to separate them and if it gets full by that time my old horses would have the max price so i can sell. I will plant oats and i can get hay easily. Doing the rides is fast everytime but the game doesn't say if a horse is female or male so how do i know?

Something we found out for horses is they will reproduce only after reaching 22 months of age and then there is a 11 month gestation period. This information is much better shown after the latest update.

If I would have knew that they are not worth the same as in FS19 I would have never done them. They used to be worth 50k fully maxed, and now only 2k?? horses are able to sexually reproduce at 2 years old in real life. Not sure if this is the same in game. would be an interesting thing to test. It also seems like age has an impact on price. I think this sets it up to be more realistic, but again that would have to be something to test. I'm very sad about the animations though, especially the jump. I was expecting more from this game.

After the 1.2 update it is much clearer at what age animals reproduce and how long it takes once they reach that age. I think for horses its 3 years and 10 months or something like that.

Animals do not have a gender in FS. Giants released information later that horse reproduction takes multiple years I just did not fast forward enough.
