Good first attempt on Amazon's part...I recently heard about AI-generated foraging books on KDP recently with wrong info in it (which could kill someone 😬), and the author was a completely made-up person with made-up credentials. But on the other hand, even this definition is still a little blurry. I often write with ChatGPT as if it's a collaborator, telling it my detailed ideas, letting it write a draft, taking inspiration, editing and feeding info back into ChatGPT to refine. It's a very fluid process, not as cut and dry as they make it sound in their definitions. I hope they use the new policy to address the low-quality AI book writers, and not to nitpick those using it in good faith.

I totally agree! I can be a bit blurry. My take on it is if I start out my own text that I feed into ChatGPT it is AI-assisted. Using ChatGPT to get ideas, inspiration, editing, and feedback is also AI-assisted. Having it come up with the first draft would qualify as AI-generated under their definition. I have no doubt that they will refine this as we go along. AI is still in its infancy, who knows where this will go 10 years from now. It is good to see Amazon is addressing it.

This is Amazon's announcement on the KDP forum: "We are actively monitoring the rapid evolution of generative AI and the impact it is having on reading, writing, and publishing, and we remain committed to providing the best possible shopping, reading, and publishing experience for our authors and customers. To that end, beginning today, when you publish a new title or make edits to and re-publish an existing title through KDP, you will be asked whether your content is AI-generated. Thanks for the kind words about our website. If AI created the image and you edited it, it is AI Generated. If you gave AI an image to edit, it would be AI Assisted. If you use the AI option to generate the words for the Word Search Tool or the clues/answers in the Crossword Tool then you would need to check AI generated with extensive editing.

If you select the option to generate the words for your word search with AI, then yes, that would count as AI generated. The Sudoku and maze tools do not use AI.
