I was in the same stable as Ryan, maybe about 10 years ago. Classy guy, and great player. Good to see him doing well.

I discovered this podcast a few weeks ago. I have always enjoyed watching Dan play. Although he seems hard to follow at times his interviews and analytical skills are top drawer. Very good stuff.

This video told me absolutely nothing about how to win or even do good in small stakes tournaments. This is just two guys talking about different poker rooms and online poker rooms. No information what so ever

@@Phobzibut how much is he succeeding at actually playing if he's still coaching for a high hourly AND is getting backed for low/mid stakes events? Like what's he actually netting per years on average playing tournaments?

Ryan is awesome! I probably learned more from him than any other coach or poker site. I'm a conservative (I know I'll probably get slammed for admitting that here) but I've always appreciated how talks about politics and his personal life. He's all business when it's time for business but he's not shy about letting you know who he is. That means he's not only smart and caring, but tough too. And who else would you want to learn poker from? (or anything else) We could use a lot more people like Ryan. Especially in poker.

Thank you for the insightful and great interview!!!! As somebody who has been playing poker To supplement my income for 40 YEARS!! The first 10 8yo - 18 After school and Grampas Home games. Next 15years 18 - 33yo low limit 4 - 8 to 12-24 limt Casino and card rooms. Last 15years 1/3 And live tournaments. Very real, very honest and articulated.Well , people that cannot pick up the subtleties are the reason why 80% are not and will never be profitable long term. But hey anybody can win in the short run.. That's what track so many people to poker anybody Can win at any time. But soon as they start losing Or hear people talk about losing. They lose interest or go on tilt...

Ryan seems like a good dude and I enjoyed what he had to say here. That said, I wish he didn't interrupt Jungle so much -- Jungle was barely able to get a word in without Ryan butting in! Kudos to Jungle for staying so polite the entire time with that going on.

I'm doing ok in live satellites and constantly win steps online but not to the target event. Usually in the UK for between £70 to £200 in events from £700 to £2K ish. Very frustrating to play from $€5 to €$ 500 but fail to get into the main event's.

Assuming 100% ROI, 15% rake, 50 payout in a field of 400 players in a $400 live daily tournament, you're basically making ~$45 / hour with a TON (like.. you can break-even after 2 years (400 tournaments)) of variance.
@TheGrindChronicles
@TheGrindChronicles 4 ай бұрын
Big blind ante sucks btw. If you are in a turbo and have many table changes, it can increase variance by a lot because you end up in the big blind often. It's very relevant when stacks are short.

Online BBA seems pointless since the entire purpose of BBA is to speed the game up but that doesn't matter online since it's automatic. It's great live though.

Expected hourly is way more important than ROI. Woukd you rather a 100 ROI on a 25 dollar tournament or a 20 perfent ROI on a 1 k event if they took the same amount of time. Fast lower RoI satellites or bounties can make more sense than higher ROI tournaments. Also laplant still being backed for lower and mid stakes events make no sense. He's either lighting money on fire or he's not a good bet in these events so which one is it?

According to gallup polling, gay marriage was only acceptible by 40% in 2002. First time it broke over 50% was in 2010. Now it's roughly 69% (nice). Gay Marriage has gone from 68% not valid in 1996 to 69% valid in 2024.

Global tournaments suck for micro/low stakes players. Can't even compare to ACR. But ACR has a serious cheating issue moreso in cash games than tournaments just by virtue of table moves.

Great interview but: From 1986 to 2022, Minnesota state house has had 19 election. Democrats have controlled the state house 12 times and Republicans have controlled the state house 7 times. Since 2010, the state house has been controlled 4 times to republican 3 times and democrats have controlled in the last 6 years (last 3 votes). Also Minnesota's state senate is currently blue for the next 4 years. It was red for the past 6 years by a majority of ONE vote. Also, Minnesota has had a democratic governor for the past 12 years as well as having a Democratic LT. Governor for 10 of those years. Also, Minnesota has not elected a Republican to Senate since 2009. Yes, Minnesota looks "red" when you go by the land area of the votes, but land does not vote. People do.

If poker is really beatable long term, then why does one need a backer?? Cause from my experience no matter how u manage bankroll if u don't get really really lucky for some periods variance will eventually take u down

Plenty of people don't have backers that have been winning for a long time. It strikes me as really weird he still needs/used a backer for low/mid stakes events. I get basically nobody is rolled for 50ks but if you have an edge and have been playing/winning for 15 years who the hell needs a backer for smaller events.
