What You Need to Know About The Advanblack ST Fairing

I've had this fairing about 7 months. No regrets. I installed the rockford fosgate audio system, which is expensive but great if you like music. I wanted to let you know that if you do get this audio system, the screws that advanblack uses to secure the windshield won't work with the rockford unit. Advanblack may have changed this. But if not, harley sells them for $16 a piece x 6😅, just go to the hardware store. I think they are 10 24 coarse thread $4 for all 6.

Is the Rockford audio system plug and play with the low rider s?

@markoconnor9865 I would assume your install would be the same as on a lowrider st. I've watched several videos for that install, and it looks straight forward. Only tuff part is opening up the connectors to remove the little white plug HD puts in the blank holes. You can definitely do it yourself!

@cesarromero8187 yes! The ones that Advanblack sent me were trash. I hope they have changed them by now. I bought a Clearview windshield that came with much better fitting bushings.

I have the ST and I ordered klock werkz windshield. I also had that problem with the thread. It was super annoying how something so simple could turn into a headache. I got all in fully through but two screws. Since I sent my bike to dealer for upgrades I just told them to get that fixed as well. I definitely messed up the screw or the thread

The only minor issue is the neck bolt was barely long enough but I made it work. If you can find a longer bolt that will probably help

What size MSW did you have? I’ve had the 9 and 13 non vented. The buffeting was giving me major blurry vision. They advised me to but the 15 inch vented and now I can get up to 80. Anything after that and I get buffeting. I’m 6 feet tall.

I tried the 11 inch, 13, 15 non vented and a 13 vented. In the end I went with the 13 vented and I still had bit of buffeting at about 80+.

@@aaron1015 in my opinion it is much better at wind deflection, and it’s made a big difference for me. It’s a tough choice and it depends on what you prefer more. I might go with the stage 2 if you’re fairly happy with the road warrior fairing

Speaking of the fairing flex...lol Broke the bottom two body trim clip mounts for the upper windshield insert on my Road King Special. To Advanblacks credit, they did warranty out the inner fairing and overnighted a replacement inner so it was rectified within a week, but 2 months in it was a little disheartening. Personally, I'm not sure it was Advanblacks fault, as the design is almost a direct pull from the Harley example, the trim clip design just seems a little light duty, especially for crappy Wisconsin roads. My solution? Get the stereo, as it ties into the inner steel support plate and braces the entire top side of the fairing significantly more. If the stereo is out of your budget/bike setup ideal I'd suggest fabricating a support plate that utilizes the upper threaded bosses on the inner support plate, and runs up and bolts to the upper windshield insert for the inner fairing to add some much needed braced support. I may make a video on this, using my broken fairing and the upper insert for prototyping purposes. No added visible bolts for the fairing would be ideal, but I'm not exactly sure its possible. We'll see.

@terryrosenstengel9033 I just cant believe this isnt a bigger issue, mine only made it 2-3 months. I still have the broken inner, would like to prototype a bracket to support the upper insert.

The issue I have is all the mounting tabs on the outer fairing have broken off at the speed nut and now I’m dealing with the same problem with the inner fairing, my solution was to fiberglass some plastic in the mounting areas and make new mounting tabs a lot sturdier than the original tabs . I went on a 300 mile ride Sunday the fairing sounded like a box of marbles when I got home , I took the outer fairing off and found 3 mounting tabs had broken on the inner fairing so I guess I’ll be glassing those in too. I sent Adventblack an email and they said to take it up with the retailer, I don’t know if another fairing is going to be any better because the flaw is in the mounting tabs anyway.

Along with those touring saddlebags they offer. They do a heck of a job paint matching . I will give them that. But not worth it. Like you said ,it feels “cheap “. Get the real thing. You could purchase every piece to build it, except for the fairing stay bracket. They are vin restricted . But if you’re cool with your parts guy at your local dealer, there is a way. All good, appreciate the advice. It’s too late for me I already bought the fairing lol but the reason I went with advanblack is because they made it easy. I have a 2020 and would’ve had the drill a hole through the neck to retro fit the oem, didn’t want to go that far. Although the fairing feels a bit cheap overall I’m still happy with it. It gives me the functionality I need and has the looks at a much lower price point.
