Depends on the design, and the builder. The brakes work fine, and are in reach on a west coast design, or a modern low sling one. Old School, tank at forehead level, can't see past the neck, springers, what front brake? Think something Paul Sr would build for himself. That's the style mentioned in then video. Arlen Ness, Jesse James, Cory Ness, Chica, and Paul Jr, the bikes tend to be long, low, and more modern. Same with Bourget, who is one of only 3 builders I would go to if I wanted a checkbook chopper. Make that two, as Indian Larry is dead. Bourget, or West Coast Choppers.

Hey Harley Guy, we all like loud pipes but quit it with the straight pipes. I've been suggesting for years that all the Harley assholes have their pipes come out in front of them so they can hear how shitty and loud their bike sounds. When people ask why Harley's are so loud I explain that the pipes are behind them and they are not exposed to that shit sound, they put it out back for us to enjoy. I've been saying for years the H-D assholes are going to ruin it for the rest of us and guess what? They are going to know crack down on loud bikes, eventually they'll ban slip on pipes.

Actually, it was the returning GIs from WW2, in the late 30s and 40s who gifted us "The BOBBER." Originating with the Hot Rod craze post WW2, returning servicemen began stripping down their bikes to lighten the load and create competitive, street racing machines! Now just like the Hot Rod, GI's were buying motorcycles as cheap transportation, and with their newly acquired mechanical skills, making them faster then stock, which btw, not only included stripping heavy parts to lighten the bikes, often including unnecessary items like the suspension and shocks, but turning wrenches to make their engines far faster than stock! The goal was to make American bikes like the Harley, compete with and dominate, the often faster and lighter British and Italian bikes, that were now invading the U.S.! This procedure usually included the signature removing of, or shortening, aka "bobbing," the rear fender, as well as shortening or bobbing the often far to long seat. And so, "the Bobber" was born - as much "trench art" as it was racing machine - the American, motorcycling GI's mean and lean street machine, known affectionately today as... "The Bobber."
@carbonfiber4922 жыл бұрын
Like hot rods modified bikes existed beforehand but returned servicemen really exploded the amount and moved it from a small niche of young guys buying old bikes and making them fast to race each other into the mainstream bobbers and choppers are named because guys would literally cut anything off that wasn’t needed including bodywork It is interesting to note that what would become known as the scrambler started to become popular in Europe at the same time while American roads were somewhat developed and were built around the car European roads weren’t due to just having a war and in general being older and more suited to low speed travel so guys would lighten what ever bike they had and try and get everything as high from the ground as the could to stop it getting caught

While I like all cruisers a lot,my favorite type are standard midweight cruisers,such as Kawasaki Vulcan EN500, Suzuki Savage, Honda Shadow 600 and 750, HD Sportster and similar bikes,they have the comfort and long distance highway riding capabilities of big cruisers,while still being small and light enough to be practical for city riding.

A bit of history: The term "Chopper" originated after WW2 when returning GI's bought war surplus bikes and stripped everything unessential to gain cheap performance. As they got older and bought newer bikes they did the same thing. It wasn't until '64-'65 that extended front ends soon followed with apehangers made the scene and gained popularity--with the same bare essentials. This is the bike the general Public cognized as a "Chopper". Of course there HAS to be an opposite end of the spectrum--Dressers. And these could (and did) get really elaborate but what is termed "Bagger" today would qualify. Any bike with extras or "farkles" was a "Dresser". --'69 Electra Glide

I'll admit to being only a casual watcher, what is it that you 'don't like' about the Vulcan S? Is there only a visual complaint, or is it based on some spec? I'll admit the S does nothing exceptionally, but also does nothing poorly. It's easily quick enough to kill inexperienced riders, and 'cruiser' enough to log 100's of miles in a day. To me, the 'bang for buck' ratio is REALLY high with a Vulcan S. I made my used 2015 purchase Vulcan S with only 6k on it for less than 4000. Compared to my first bike, a Shadow 1100c, the Vulcan is quicker off the line, faster at the top end, better gas mileage, and, to me, better looking, and at near 1/3 the cost after TTL taxes, and registration. 3700 miles logged in less than 5 months and a big smile on my face.
@cstarr32404 жыл бұрын
Sorry, dude. You are using logic, facts, and figures. That means nothing to most of the cruiser crowd. I don't think most cruiser guys are looking for quick and efficient fun; they are looking for a bike that has "character." As it relates to a cruiser, I have found that "character" generally means "no redeeming quality, but I still like it for reasons I can't explain." Personally, I agree with you on the Vulcan S; good looking, quick, and low cost of operation. I nearly bought a brand new Vulcan S when it was time to get my first motorcycle. But then I found a guy selling his Harley V-Rod Muscle with less than 7K miles on it for less than $8K. So now I ride a Harley, and I can tell you that it is objectively worse than the Vulcan S for a new rider. I can also tell you that, if I had to chose all over again, I'd still chose the V-Rod.
@beardedforlife37404 жыл бұрын
You also compared it to a shadow which is even slower than a Harley so....
@guppyitsallgood4 жыл бұрын
Obviously personal opinion and taste to follow... the Vulcan S has the second ugliest headlight in the world of motorcycling, and I'm not even sure why. When I look closely I can't pinpoint why I hate it so much, but on a look something about how it merges into the forks and the acorn/strawberry shaped output makes me wanna hit it with a cricket bat. Could be worse though, it could be a Street Triple. Don't get me wrong, I'd buy the shit outta a Street Triple, but I'd also have an aftermarket headlight already waiting to bolt on.

I think Baggers subdivide further into full-dress baggers and retro, classic baggers. The full-dress crowd gets Gold Wings or Ultra Glides with full fairings, GPS, and every possible option. Their bike is like a two-wheeled luxury car. The retro-classic baggers would love to have a pan head from 1947 and want the closest thing to that that they can get. Which means a big touring bike, but stripped down, like a Road King or Indian Springfield. With the windscreen and bags taken off, these are actually very basic (albeit very big) machines. These may seem like small differences, but they're not. Most Road King riders wouldn't be caught dead on an Ultra Glide, even though the mechanicals are pretty similar.

I didn't get a Rockform, because a case for my Note 9 was not in stock, when I was shopping. The GUB Bicycle & Motorcycle Phone Mount I got instead has served me well, through many miles, holding any case I have.

It doesn't appear that this guy likes anything. He's too cool to like anything. But not like "Hipster too cool" because hipsters are stupid just like bobbers, choppers, baggers, busas, harleys, hondas, suzukis, stock bikes, custom bikes, bikes bought already built or building bikes already stock. He's a god. A mere myth among the common man.

I'm not a cruiser guy, but will admit that the allure of muscle cruisers and the Indian Scout are the exceptions to the rule. Nothing better than having your arms torn off as you rocket up into light speed. I feel the 2014/2015 Honda Valkyrie is the sweet spot. Performs like a muscle cruiser but retains the neutral Goldwing ergonomics, which is my general beef with cruisers. (No, one's feet should never be in front of their knees, ever!!) Honda needs to make more modern Valkyries off the updated Goldwing.

Best cruiser style is bagger. I’d say performance bagger but that usually consists of a ridiculous punched out engine like the 131 which I just don’t think is worth the money. Just put it into suspension. The 107 and 114 have plenty of power with pipes and a tune for a back road. I hate when someone asks me how many cc? Then when I say 1800.. they’re like “oh that must be fast?” Yea fast enough to get beat by every gt car on the market. Just have fun from 0-80 after that just buy liter bike or adv bike. The cruiser market has nothing for ya.

Why haven't I got rokform? Because I'm not a billionaire that's why. I mean seriously there mount is already the most expensive on the market, and then they require you to purchase the case separately
@altortugas59794 жыл бұрын
This is exactly why I didn’t get one. Put the arms in the right place, x-mount doesn’t hit any buttons, so why would anyone pay three times as much for equipment that does the exact same thing no better?
@kevinfox5004 жыл бұрын
Phone mount? Hell, I run a tank bag, because it can go on any of the 7 bikes my wife and I own. Why would I want to buy 2 cases, and 7 fucking mounts? Makes no sense, especially when 2 of those bikes have drag bars. Add two fluid reservoirs, 2 grips, 2 mirrors, a solid block riser, with speedo, and there's mo real estate left for an overpriced mount.
@JT-zn2nr4 жыл бұрын
They are worth it. Buy one rokform mount and you’re set buy other brands and you will need to replace. Also the cases have some heavy duty magnets so you really don’t need the mount. ($45 case isn’t for billionaires)

Totally on point. THOSE are muscle cruisers. As far as club bikes, he's got it all wrong too. It's gotta be a dyna (no wide glides) with fairings, t-bars, 2-1 exhaust and jacked up rear end. Vans and flannels are a must for dyna bro's, bro.

Drag pipes are good to have if they're 1.75" all the way in length. It creates its own back pressure. If its any bigger like 2" then you start losing power. I gain just as much (if not more) tq as a 2 into 1 with 1.75" drags.
