I’ve been dry firing in front of a mirror as my reflection is the target for years, you’re the first one to say it on video that I’ve heard

Great information. As a female, sometimes it's intimidating at the shooting range when you are just starting out. This will help me practice at home so I won't look as inexperienced there!! Thank you! Keep this content coming!

Draw and presentation of pistol practice to get use to where your dot or sight is critical. Lasers cartridges are so useful. Actually pulling the trigger is where most of us screw up POA. Laser cartridge and a WMLaser can aid in training yourself how to isolate muscle movement. Everything up to and including pulling the trigger is the same exact set of actions as actual firing of the pistol. Do your draw and presentation reps, then pull out the laser cartridge. Bet yourself a laser cartridge, and a free version of LaserHit, cell phone or tablet and you are ready. Cast the cell phone to your big screen and see your hits.

I used to know an old man who used a revolver. he practiced dry fire, and used what he called "Dummy rounds". he painted them bright orange and kept then in an old pill bottle that he had painted the lid of also bright orange. Additionally, when he was done at the range, he loaded the cylinder with "Dummy Rounds". I have a dummy round in the chamber of my gun going to and from the range. Rack the action, the dummy is on the ground and i have a live shell in my chamber. When I get another revolver, i will buy a cylinder of dummy rounds for one gun. I do not promise or ask if a gun I can see is the only one there. I have a Pelican case just right for two handguns.

So you are trying to depress the trigger only enough to stop right before it clicks and drops the firing pin or the hammer? And if you do then why are you pressing the side of the pistol with your off hand and racking the slide?
@jjsmurf87594 ай бұрын
1st question: Yes 2nd question: he's not "pressing the side of the pistol", he tapping the bottom of the mag. It sounds like he uses the "click" of the trigger to simulate a malfunction. In a live fire situation, a click (and not a bang), is a bad thing. First steps to check a malfunction are to "tap and rack". Which is what he's simulating. Hope that makes sense.

But but but Mike Glover said dry fire was bad! He said I would rack the gun every time I fired it out of habit! 😂😂😂😂
@vafamf4 ай бұрын
If you break the trigger and manually re-rack it over and over then you will create that habit. Greg made it clear that you don’t break the trigger. If you do you do a slap rack ‘n roll so you don’t ingrain a poor habit.

Playing devil's advocate here: What you would say to someone who asks, isn't this building muscle memory to draw and not break the shot? If you're drawing you've already identified a threat that warrants deadly force.

Neither do you, or else you would have shared your knowledge... but you don't have any knowledge to share
@Soulcritic4 ай бұрын
@@BanjoZZZ I don't need to share! Dry firing is about trigger control & fixing trigger control mistakes. With an unloaded handgun. You get in a firing stance with a coin on the front sight or an empty shell on the slide behing the front sight. You press the trigger i either falls off you did it wrong. You keep repeating until neither falls off & continue with nothing falling off. You continue your dry firing sessions with the goal on the coin or shell not falling off. That's the way we did it 27 years ago!
@autumnlegend2874 ай бұрын
good video but i don't agree with dry fire, it's best to just hit the range and learn with live fire. Your body and your mind will be more prepared for the noise, the recoil and staying on target.
@NoseNaris4 ай бұрын
Dry fire is really more to get the muscle memory down, especially when drawing from concealed carry. God forbid you’d need that muscle memory during a split second/ life or death situation. ! But as they say, better to have it and not need it…..
@NoseNaris4 ай бұрын
@@user-yv7dt5je1l that’s why you dry fire at home, like everyone else who practices. But I’m sure you knew that 🤷🏻♂️
