Real love of the animal. Not something to brag, or show off. It's needs & well being comes before yours. Nice shelter, good feed/water, vet care,& farrier. Kindness & understanding. Patience. Respect the animal, it's a sensitive creature. Giving it love , it will do you right. It will do its best. Don't expect a ordinary horse to be a champion. But each horse is a winner in its own way. Learn how ride properly.

Also study everything about horses. Yes land is important. A stalled horse is an unhappy horse. They need to feel the sun, wind, fresh air & room to run. Trees to stand under.

Horses are expensive. Proper care is necessary. You don't cut corners in caring for a horse. 1 horse requires at least 2 acres of good pasture.
