Good luck! Have a 2L of Sprites and drink sugar, you're gonna need 10 times more energy than the players. Have things ready, like a long list of random names for NPCs such as shopkeepers, cooks and such. I would start with a published adventure.

Well, in addition to the four items mentioned in the video, you really do need at least the Basic Rules, which are available for free. And while it's perfectly fine if the Player(s) have never played before, if the DM hasn't played before, they are going to need some advice, first. And you are really going to need a pen or pencil and some paper, or some other means of keeping track of what happens during the game.

Yes and no. There are a bunch of solo D&D adventures online as well as instructions on how to play WotC published adventures by yourself. D&D has had solo options since the early days of the hobby. There's something for everyone and every style of play in D&D. :)

2. And 3. Can be summed up with DDB Player and D&D Beyond My boyfriend DM's using an old tablet while our son and I adventure using DDB Player/D&D Beyond on two old phones. Minimal tools: free apps mentioned above and free campaigns and one shots on reddit. The DM book and player book are helpful as well but we never really use the monster book.

2:13 So what you're saying is that in order to play D&D, nobody at the table needs any books, certainly not $80+ worth of them. It's only needed to 'help you take your DnD games to the next level'. Now, what level would that be? I'd say pretty low one, since you can't really make a character or know any basic rules without reading at least one book. Would you like to know how to even run the game, reward progress, or give the players something to do, or how to cheat? Buy a next one. Oh, you'd like some opposition for a game about killing monsters? Well, yer out of luck, chum.
