I agree. I think that the external is not a credible enough or trustworthy source to be the idealistic force that we can use to make life shaping or changing decisions on our individuality. The duality of the external and internal constantly fights against each other just like how the bible says the flesh and spirit is constantly at war with each other. And like you said we have to be intentful of which force we use to shape or drive our lives. The flesh or anything fleshy signifies any external doings while the spirit signifies any internal doing, or in biblical terms any spiritual works happening in the lives of those with the holy spirit (the internal idea). That is why chrisitans must be intentful of choosing the right force that will share them best - the spirit. I also think that the internal is the more important that the external. Not only because we find the most reassurance in the internal, but because we know ourselves internally more than anyone does. People try and use external things to shape the internal but in reality, it should be the internal that shapes the external because the external can pass away, but your internal will always remain. This is one of the reason I believe in God. I also think that the best way to feed your internal is not by external things that you ca see with yu naked eye but instead things, or ideas that are abstract. If you want to become a more emotional intelligent person (an internal trait), we then must go to abstracts ideas, or internal ideas that will allow us to become the emotionally intelligent person we want to be. We cannot rely on the external for an internal growth but sometimes internal things can take over or be portrayed through external things because that's in the inside can impact the outside also.
