After getting her first tattoo, Mei Pang knew she needed another one within hours, but not for the reasons you might think. When she looked into the mirror she felt lopsided, like her personal symmetry was off. So a couple of days later she got the same tattoo on her other arm to create balance. Much like Noah and the Ark, Mei has gotten all of her subsequent tattoos in twos.

I feel like Mei had a big influence in the tattoo industry tbh. I’ve seen so many people that straight up copy the tattoos that she has, or a lot of people have a very similar tattoo in the same placements she does. It’s pretty interesting to see how impactful someone’s aesthetic can be.

Ive nothing against her, she seems very nice.. but she's had tattoo's 7/8 years.. this style has been around for hundreds of years. Sym tattoos etc I'm sure she's influenced people who are easily influenced normally on tiktok etc but I see nothing to indicate the tattoo industry

@@Browser404 people that get tattoos have always influenced the industry….cus that’s where tattoos go….on people. So Since Mei has a huge social media following, she inherently influenced a lot of young people to get that style of tattoos, obviously that black work style has been around forever, but it hasn’t always been the trend to get that style. You can look up “tattoo tour” on KZbin and see video after video of people with basically the exact same style tattoos in basically the same placements as Mei. Also there are always trends in tattooing, so her huge following is another reason for her influence on younger people getting those tattoos, which in turn influences what’s popular in tattooing and therefore influences the industry (at least for right now until the next trend pops up)….does that answer your question? 😗

She seems nice. It's sad she thought that color tattoos wouldn't look nice on her when she was getting started. A good artist can give anyone lovely color ink! Skin pigment is just a filter that goes over color and it can be compensated for with a little color theory. Obviously there are limits and the darkest skin won't look neon-bright but still.

Well, I found this bizarre, because traditional Japanese tattooing/ irezumi is bold and bright and one of the most timeless steadfast full colour high contrast styles…. So …. Yeah, that pigment skin tone reasoning really threw me…. 🤷🏼‍♀️(not saying she needs to get that style, but the colour theory holds true to a lot of styles)

I had the same opinion when I got started and unfortunately it was because of what I heard from ignorant artists. Luckily I happened to gravitate towards traditional Japanese art and my artist was experienced with brown skin tones, I’m half black and half Indian but half of my work is blasted with cherry pink and that greenish turquoise. As someone who was told you need to stick to black and grey, I like being living proof that you just need to find the right artist. Colors look beautiful on us too. Not to hate on black and grey, half of my work is black and grey with surrounding cherry blossoms. We need to be a little more selective but if the artist knows their color theory and has experience tattooing POC it should work out.

I am heavily tattooed and was very shy by nature. I did it to overcome my issues and basically not give me space to avoid embracing my shadow. I live in a country where tattoos are not even noticed as long that you have the "right kind" of tattoos which i find super weird. Everyone has animals/flowers/japanese/clocks and angels and maybe some generic geometric.. i rock my trippy black out tats and dont give a f.. a lot of people are shitty and tats help me filter those out of my life.. we form our own realities

I have loved Mei’s look for a long time, so this is fascinating. Plus while I’m definitely not as symmetrical as Mei is, having just gotten an inner left forearm tattoo to balance out an inner right forearm tattoo, I definitely feel better about the “weight” of my tattoos now that they are in balance.
