I would definitely suggest you get your own kettle. You can do alot with it and not every dorm or hall provides them. I agree about the clothes horse/hang dryer, playing cards, tea towels and sandals/slippers. Check what your University/College live in places allow for cooking gadgets. (Information will vary from place to place)

You can bring too much of a good thing! When I first went to uni I took so many coat hangers I couldn't fit them all in my wardrobe. Still it is better than having them all at the bottom of the wardrobe!
