I picked a Nightster up at my local dealer, I rode it, I loved it, I bought it. I will say, if you do buy a Nightster, have them double check the hand control connections. Mine were bent from the factory which caused me to break down about 200 miles in. The dealership took care of me though, even delivered the bike to me after they got it fixed.

Great video. The Harley Davidson engineer answered many questions about this bike. I bought mine on Memorial Day. My dealership knew very little about this bike, but I got a great deal. My question is why do many reviews on this bike says to keep the rev range over 7,000 rpm? I just finished the break in mode on my bike today and when I opened it up I was going 100 mph at only 4,600 rpm. This bike amazes me at it lighting acceleration and speed. It is very close in performance to my previous bike-the Ducati 696 Monster. My Harley mechanic told me only to use full synthetic oil in this bike. (His choice was Motul 7100 full synthetic oil). I found the ROAD MODE is the best performance-Sport mode is to jerky. The only downfall of this bike is the short 100 mile range before the low full light comes on. I am begging 56 MPG. Thank you again for your video.

Harley addressed some of the issues with the Nighster S, but it still needs the 1250 engine from the Sportster S, and better suspension and brakes, to be a serious competitor in it’s segment. Purely my opinion based on a test ride, and the price for this bike in Europe is crazy!.

I really want to like the new sport lineup, and on paper, it sounds great. A six speed transmission, 100 pounds lighter, liquid cooled, which don’t get me wrong is pretty nice but then when you actually get on one, it just doesn’t feel or even sound like a Harley anymore. That character isn’t there, everything from the exhaust note to the styling. Personally I feel the Yamaha bolt, is more in line with that classic sportster feel and note. It feels like something BMW would produce, which is great if you’re into that but it’s not for everyone. I also think the price tag is very limiting for people who specifically targeted the sportster family of bikes since they were an affordable option for beginners to get in the door with a Harley Davidson, but for the amount of money you are paying, 13,000 +, from my perspective the only thing you are paying for is a six speed transmission, some decent looking wheels and liquid cooling. Meanwhile Indian has their scout lineup starting right around the $10,000 mark and with the addition of an exhaust directly from them, and a few other upgrades you could quite possibly drive off the lot with a semi custom Indian for the same price as a stock nightster, or as previously mentioned a Yamaha bolt for less than 10,000 off the show room, and you still have enough money left over to slap a 2 into 1 on it. I can appreciate the direction Harley is trying to take the bikes and yes, you need to adapt in order to stay competitive, but at the same time, if you drift too far from what it was, that made a product great then it’s just not the same anymore. I think a redesign of the Evo to liquid cooled and a six speed would have been more than enough and possibly an introduction of a 500 or 600 cc displacement 883, with liquid cooling, would have been a great option to target the beginner market, and also push the existing sportster market to the next level, but these new bikes are just too much of a departure and are something completely different.
