Thats not a saying, never was, and never will be. Metric bikes are throw away bikes. They dont need much maintenance because they dont last long enough to need any. Metrics you put 30k miles on it and throw it away and get a new one. Where with HD's they dont even need the top end serviced until 100k.

So I'm definitely an H-D guy, one of the ignorant ones who refuses to buy anything other than a harley, at that. I started out on a Rebel 300 and sold it within a couple months for a sportster 1200. With these new revolution max engines, I can 100% say I would go with the rebel 1100 over the new harleys. Why pay more for the same thing? The rebel even looks a little better in my opinion. Crazy that H-D can charge that much for a rebel rip-off.
@LifeOfBurch2 жыл бұрын
I’m always happy to see a reformed Harley addict! 😂😂😂 But in all seriousness, I agree. In this case the Rebel is just hands down the better bike for the price. Hopefully as Harley does more with the Rev Max motors, they’ll be able to bring the price down a bit to be more competitive 🤞🏻

I’m absolutely right there with you. I’m on my second Harley right now, a ‘21 Low Rider S that I absolutely love. I started on my 2020 iron 883 and am always defending Harley’s honor among metric riders. That said, there’s no way I would pay $5k more for what is essentially a Harley rebel 975 when the original is readily available and so affordable. I wouldn’t pay $3k more. $2k…yes, yes I would. It’s still a Harley. But it’s too expensive for what you get. I’m not in the market for this kind of bike, but if I were, I’m getting a Honda rebel 11oo without question. I would need my head examined if I spent that much money on this bike when the very same thing is available somewhere else for thousands less. That’s just insanity.

@HahrtDood Yes, Indian dealership problems and availability are a huge turnoff for the brand. The FTR is definitely a bike I could get with! If Harley ever does release the Bronx, it will likely be so overpriced it might be laughable at this point? A 975, street fighter naked, making 100hp, with a full tech package and 38 degree lean angle…….MSRP $30,000, freight $1,000, surcharges $800, in black of course. $1400 more if you want a red one. Then a 1250 Bronx costing only $1k more!

They lowered the price and removed surcharges on Nightster. Now its $11,999 and the Special is $13,499 and has usb ports, cruise control, 5 modes, 5 inch risers, nicer wheels, heated grips, darker engine covers and the better speedo/gauge. I also think it has customizable modes too. So its significantly more appealing especially the Nightster Special!

@biblereader Harleys are extremely reliable. Anyone who says otherwise is telling you right off the fact they're just a hater. It's also true they use a much higher grade of materials, which is factored in to the MSRP (but you also see in the resale value down the line.) Put a Softail Standard next to something like a Fury and you'll see why the Standard is $2k more, everything is metal and everything on the Honda is thin plastic.
@fugenpower2 жыл бұрын
@@stevem4783 I’ve been cross shopping the rebel and the nightster and the plastic/metal argument is not true for this particular HD. I’m so glad to see someone finally comparing this new sportster to the actual bike it’s mostly comparable to….the Honda rebel 11oo. This just solidifies what I’ve been saying all along….This new Nightmare bike is way TOO expensive! The new Harley rebel 975 makes the same power, has less technology, less lean, and cost thousands more. Why? Because it’s a Harley? Not good enough. There’s no real justification for the exuberant price tag. I can’t tell you the amount of sh*t I’ve taken for complaining about the price when there are far more affordable options available from Japanese manufacturers. Anyway, finally a “voice of reason” among the fanboy reviews I’ve been seeing all over YT. I especially like when Harley flies KZbinrs around the country, pays their hotel, picks up the tab for everything, and gives them the Royal treatment, all for their “unbiased” reviews of their bikes. Excellent way to get a totally neutral opinion from someone.

For that price it should have 10 more hp, dual front discs and higher spec suspension front and rear. As is, Harley should drop about 2k to be competitive. With Rebel 1100’s for less $ and Speed twins for the same $, it’s a hard sell imo. Solid review and a great comparison.
@shadowrider70722 жыл бұрын
100% agree with this sentiment. It's a solid bike, but there are bikes that perform just as good, look just as good or better, and either cost less money or the same and are already established in the market. Ridden both a 2024 Nightster and Rebel 1100. Very similar bikes as far as power, handling and seating position. You have to unlock and lift the seat on the Nightster but you have belt drive versus the chain on the Rebel. I liked the Nightster but for three things. The position of the rear foot brake lever is in an awkward position. You have to canter your toe inward to get your foot on the lever. There is some significant heat coming off the exhaust pipe that will scorch your right leg at a stop if you put both feet down (especially if you're short...I'm 5'6"). Of course the last thing is the price. Expect to be out the door at $17K out the door for the Nightstet while the Rebel was $13,000 out the door. Honda also offered me more for my HARLEY trade it. Ultimately I went with the Rebel.

My iron 883 sounded so good it just made you cry tears of joy. As far as emissions….Harley could make them E-5 compliant if they wanted to, but they have this new engine and they are going forward with it. I don’t blame them for that at all. What I do blame them for is the outrageous prices they are coming up with! Even a new evo sportster which has been in production, as is, for decades, costs far more than it should. There’s just no excuse for a new iron 883 to cost $13-14k except corporate greed. Harley has become so greedy I’m afraid it’s going to be the death of them.

But they should also take a little bit more about selling process outside US in order to successfuly do this . I'm from Romania, a small European country (but not the smallest and a UE member). I've intended to purchase a Softail Standard (which supposed to be my first Harley) from Bucharest dealer but they didn't have it for a ride test. I haven’t, but it’s funny you say that- I’ve been SUPER drawn to the CB500X/NC750X type styling lately! Definitely hoping to get my hands on one (or both) for a test ride! 🤞🏻

For only maybe $2000 more you can get a Softail Standard with the 107 M8 engine and way better mono-shock suspension. Sure, it's 150 lbs heavier, but a super nice ride and a more traditional look, feel, and sound. Nightster is a cool carver I guess but the Softail line of bikes are more comfortable and practical for everyday use. Maybe I'm biased from my age but I ride my '09 Sportster 1200 Custom every day that's not raining and I'm perfectly happy with my chromed out EVO. If the Nightster can go 0 to 60 twice as fast as me, ask me if I care.

I bought a new Nightster S a few months ago, wanted to go metric and save $3000, but they were all too cramped for me, the Nightster is an absolutely perfect fit. So far it pops a taillight code, and froze the screen once, but they fixed the battery drain issues. Slip on pipe, it sounds snarly as hell, not "Real Harley" but I didn't want that anyway! If you can fit on a Honda, get the Honda.
@danielbouchie63972 жыл бұрын
Something to keep in mind is that the Harleys hold value extraordinarily well. So why you pay more put the gate you can then sell it for a lot more down the road. Just something to note. Cool vid

Traditional Harleys do. Not sure the Nightster will.

Sounds like it's designed after the V-Rod to be a baby version of it. Oh, damn, a Sportster with a gas gauge? That's cool. It's crazy to me that as much as you compare it, I've never seen a Rebel 1100. My area is mostly Harley, Indian, and Yamaha, not too many Hondas. I'm a big Harley lover, but I'm disabled and because of that, I found the Sportster S as too uncomfortable; I can't ride crotch rocket style bikes because of knee positioning.
@newbierides2 ай бұрын
I test rode the rebel 1100 and really liked it. However I can see how it would likely feel cramped for a long day ride. There's a used 2023 hd nightster special near me for $11k with less than 1k miles. I might buy that instead of a Rebel.

HD is out of their minds with their prices. In the last few years I, and seemingly a lot of others, have gotten more into cruisers, and every time I think “oh why don’t I have a cruiser?” I go to look at the prices and quickly remember why I’d rather have a Yamaha MT/XSR
@ganuvien2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the price vs known reliable/power to dollar ratios is massive. I can confidently say the MT09/XSR900 can walk a lot of bikes for such a cheap price under 100mph. Harley might be able to sell a "sport touring" strictly road version of pan am for the 15-20k.

It’s something that Harley Davidson puts on! They have this giant truck that they load up with EVERY bike model in their current line up, and they go from dealer to dealer doing demo days! I’d say check with your local HD dealer to see if/when they plan on doing one, cause even this one wasn’t super well advertised by my dealer. It’s usually an all weekend event, and on Saturday and Sunday they bring out food trucks and live music too 🤘🏻

Looks great and sounds like a worthy bike from your initial impressions. I just can't get over the "Bar & Shield Tax". Harley makes a good bike, but I cannot fathom how they justify their price tag with "Heritage" and "Made in America".

Amenities on the Rebel 1100 at 4 grand cheaper? I love my Rebel 1100. I was trying to decide on the Indian Scout Rogue Sixty and Rebel 1100 and I went with the Honda. It's so much more fun than my old Boulevard M50. I'm super happy.

So, I just passed my MSF. I have heard the 100 can be kept in rain mode for beginners. I am over 6 Ft so the Rebel 500 might be small for me over the next year while I get better at riding. Thoughts?

I don't know why but it just looks goofy to me. Like it's still in concept and not finished being built or designed yet. It's symmetry is just all over the place. If a lot of the decisions were done for cost savings then I'm wondering what they cut to get it DOWN to almost $14k!
