You mention focusing on the process. When I was in Japan and learned Kyudo, the emphasis was exactly that. Perfect the form, ground yourself in being in tune with the bow, the breathing during the backtansion, and tension on the string. Every single component needs to be perfect before a consistently great shot can be executed every time. That lesson crossed over into my western archery and made me a far better archer. Great tips. I think if we get the steps right intentionally, eventually, we need less conscious effort on each component to make a successful shot.

The process of being relaxed in a shot doesn't just apply to archery, I've been using multiple types of weapons, from rifles and handguns, to bows and swords, since I was five years old. I've always said that a calm mind is the key to a relaxed but reactive body, and a relaxed body moves smoothly. Smooth movements are precise, and precice movements are effective ones. This mindset in my opinion allows someone to discover what they are truly capable of.

This has (apart from the green drink plug) got to be the best video on youtube describing the psychological approach to improving in archery. Fantastic insight, great advice - yes, please Kramer do more of these videos. You probably have no idea how inspirational you truly are......

When I first started, was always tense.. deathgripping the riser. My shots were wild. I would hover over the target, making me a panic shooter. After talking with someone who had a lot more experience, my nephew... had me thinking less. Relaxing, and as soon as I was on target.. release. Practicing form.. Release at first aquired target every day, made me into a reliable shot. Though I have not flipped any sticks lately.. I still have the fundamentals of form.

What I got from this is, I'm not a terrible as I thought. Example. I was consistently putting together very tight groups yesterday. Shafts would slap each other on the way by. They were all about 6 inches left of the bullseye. that tells me, I have consistent movements in my shot cycle., but there's very obviously something funky going on with my aim if I think I'm on target and grouping that consistently off target. Thanks much 👍

I'm a right handed archer! I find with how I anchor my shots hit consistently to the left too. If you can't your bow your eye will be on top of the shaft and allow you to hit the bullseye while aiming down the shaft.

When I first got into archery, you were just starting out. I was a bit of a selfbow purist. I don't say "snob," because I'll always use whatever I have that works, but my youtube history at the time definitely illustrated my preference, with the exception of your channel. I didn't care that you made laminated bows that I would happily use, but never make (although that's changed now). I always watched your stuff anyway. Now look atcha! All successful and professional and stuff! I haven't watched all your videos in the intervening years, because life, but I'm in the process of doing some catching up. Your presentation of your opinions is excellent, and your drive and focus are rather inspirational. Your review of the Hungarian horse bow, despite it being mid-level in your opinion, convinced me that it was worth a shot this deer season. Got it today and it's exactly as awesome as I'd hoped. All this rambling on is really just to say thank you for your contributions to one of the good corners of the internet, sir. Cheers!

In more than 60 years of shooting (slingshots, bows and airguns) I've found that all the experience stored in my subconscious is much better at deciding when to release the shot than me consciously trying to grab a hit. I decide what to shoot at, get into stance and draw; after that it's up to the subconscious to make the fine adjustments in hold and break the shot when the sight-picture (and tension, and breathing and heart beat) will result in a hit. The "trick" is not to interfere with the subconscious doing its job, manually take over and screw up the shot. Many things we do are "automatic" without consious effort. You trust your subconscious to do 99% of driving your car, trust it when shooting your bow. Cheers!

Good stuff! I say practice, repetition, and consistency with a good understanding of form is the best foundation. Archery is a mind game thats for sure. Its kinda like a test of your ability to controle your body and mind at the same time. Everyone has different methods but these are some good key points. Happy shooting!

To add to your comments about the release, the way that works best for me is...don't think about letting the string go - just decide not to hold it any longer. You're not opening your fingers, you're just relaxing them.

I love your content, but I'll admit I'm not much of an Archer. I do however shoot rifle and pistol quite a bit and everything you talked about in this video is actually things that are taught in firearm shooting classes. It is extremely good advice and actually well documented methods to improve your shooting.

A different question, which might still be about mindset: I see a lot of youtubers talking about mental health and their energy, while doing a job where they need to give their 100% all the time with the goal of keeping their views and retention high. How do you deal with this, as your video's are always nicely produced and you seem not to try to get into the algorithm grind?

There is nothing that this young man is saying that is not accurate! I practice at different distances in different conditions on a very consistent basis. For example when it's really windy outside in Florida all practice my shot when it's raining outside I'll practice my shot what is really foggy outside I practice my shot All of these environmental differences coming to play with the accuracy of your shot. We don't even want to get into the grain of your arrow or the spine of your arrow and weight and so on that's a whole another calculation. But if you are always practicing with the sun is shining and it's pretty outside that is the only reference you have in your capabilities. Also what he's saying about anticipating if you anticipate distractions they're still just anticipated distractions. There is nothing like a actual distraction to test your reactive capability.

@@Berniellagames I'm not saying don't take sponcerships for videos, I'm saying, don't shill some snake oil acting as if it's going to change the way someone shoots a bow. I'm saying that the sponcerships a person takes are as much a representation of the channel they're on as the content they're advertising over. So him shilling that mind power drink thing is very off putting for anybody, not just myself.
