I was 16 when I got out of boot camp. Around the time I saw this movie. I definitely can see the parallels. It's a low-key classic. Everything you said was true tho. It definitely had a lot to with my growth from a boy to a man. Even though being hard headed took damn near another decade before it kicked in. Had I believed in being patriotic & been blind to how this country views us as sub-human, I would've loved to enlist. Sometimes, I wish I would've anyway.

The sad reality is that there are an handful of black men and women who definitely act just like the Calhoun character in real life. It truly loved your review of this classic film from my childhood when HBO used to play their own movies. Everything you said was a great observation of people who are willing to make a change even though there are obstacles blocking their path to greatness, fellow blacks who suffer from self hatred who also get a sick pleasure from trippin up their fellow black people, and the grim reminder of how the streets don't have no love for any or everyone. Keep up the great work bro.
