Im not a prospector but I visited Oregon and while skipping rocks and messing around on the Columbia I reached into an area that was a little side stream of another stream that entered the river. I reached in and grabbed a 7.37 gram nugget. Know experience prospecting at all and I wasnt looking for gold lol, but I knew exactly what it was as soon as I touched it.

My friend Steve found a few small slivers one day just reaching into the gravel/sand mixture in the river and seeing what he came up with. He still has the flakes of gold in a jar, and I’ve seen them. It does happen.

It’s not. There’s a million of these sorts of fake rockhounding videos on KZbin where people plant glass “rocks” and cheap polished stones and pretend to find them. Some people even put them in concrete to make it look like the gems are being excavated out of rock. Plus real gold is way heavier than sand so all that gold would be sunk down to the bedrock not just laying there mixed in with the sand.
