What young voters really think of Trump and Harris

The stakes feel higher than ever for young voters going into the 2024 presidential election. In a new NBC News Stay Tuned Gen Z poll, which conducted interviews with over 2,500 registered voters 18-29 years old, 50% of GenZers say they’re going to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris. That’s compared to 33% who said they’re voting for Former President Donald Trump. In this week’s episode we’ll chat with young voters about their feelings for each candidate, the issue that matters most to them, and the biggest influences that impact their decision before casting their vote next week.

They don’t enjoy the same freedoms in most countries, especially as a woman. White women here in particular are the most privileged and protected group in the world. People don't realize that the president largely doesn't control the economy. There's not a button in the oval office that Trump could press if he gets elected again that would drop prices everywhere by 50% or something. President *can* influence the economy via vetoing and signing into law bills that Congress passes, and by signing executive orders. But the effect isn't super strong. The only real major way that the president can affect the economy, and even this way requires legislative approval, is to levy tariffs. Tariffs can be useful in discouraging companies in the country from buying from companies selling their goods on the international market, which then of course encourages the industry where the goods in question are produced to grow and expand in the US. Trump could greatly affect the economy with his tariffs plan. The thing is, though, that his plan is absolutely crazy, and levies tariffs all across the board at a crazy rate. If he were to levy his tariffs, the price of everything would go up, because we import so many things. It would take years of suffering by the middle and especially lower class until new goods were being produced domestically to make prices come down again, but even then, prices would never return to normal for 2 reasons: the first being the inflation that would come with everything suddenly costing/ being worth a lot more. And the second being because goods produced in a place like China are typically always going to be cheaper and more available than goods produced in the US, because working conditions and minimum pay in places like China are abysmal compared to the US, which means that it's cheaper to make things in countries like China
