@@jaiswick If you want a sincere and (hopefully) not dickish answer, I'd say it has to do somewhat with Sam's play style. Sam is fabulous and hilarious, but he has a hard time (in my opinion) staying in character, especially as time elapses and things evolve and his original "character plan" has already happened IE Nott turning into Veth. You know how Liam's default is angsty Shakespearian actor? Well Sam's Default is comedian, which is, again, usually hilarious, but also disruptive and not conducive to actually being a Person. The biggest but by no means only example of this that I can think of also highlights a similar Comedian disease in Laura, though she's better at keeping her quips in character, which is why Jester occasionally comes off as vaguely sociopathic (tattooing people against their will for instance. Hilarious, yet terrifying if you really think about it.) Anyway The example is SPOILERS FOR LATE C2 when they flee from Yussa's tower with half the party trapped in the happy fun ball and end up in the plane of fire. Now Caleb was setting up the dome and all they had to do was sit down and shut up for "10 minutes" in game and they'd be golden. Instead of making sure their families were safe, Veth and Jester decided to go exploring, ostensibly to scout ahead, but really because they can't stand still for more than 5 seconds without combusting. Veth has her son and husband with her, she knows they are very squishy (And Jester has her mom but this is about Veth oops) but instead of giving a shit, she endangers their lives by first "scouting ahead" then having an EXTREMELY LOUD very careless conversation in unknown probably hostile territory about pointless bullshit, attracts the attention of a fiery creature, and well, we all know what happens next... Now all of that on a meta level was just Sam joking around and being entertaining with Laura, but that's kind of my point, he doesn't really think about how his comedic actions translate into Character and as a result, Veth is kind of a terrible person towards the end. She's not a good co parent, every time we see Yeza trying to parent Luc she undermines him and does terribly inappropriate things (Again on a meta level Sam and the rest of them are doing a great skit with perfect comedic timing) I've definitely laughed, but that doesn't make her a better parent/partner just because it's funny. Frankly Yeza deserves better. The poor guy was trying to comfort her saying that they both made mistakes and were responsible, meanwhile I'm over here like um no... honey you took a bad job opportunity and got more than you asked for, Veth makes terrible life choices every 10 minutes and this is ACTIVELY her fault. From getting greedy and delaying their departure during the heist so that Trent could catch them in the act, to wandering aimlessly in dangerous territory loudly yapping without waiting for her family to be safely behind arcane protection, Veth might as well have killed Luc herself. (obviously Jester is the second most guilty of killing Luc for talking about her mom to that guard and again loudly talking and endangering everyone). So that's an example of why some people might not like Veth as a person (Even if they might enjoy the performance and the player.)

@@mayaenglish5424 I think you're for sure right that Sam sort of checked out as Veth once she turned because he was having a hard time understanding her motivation for staying when she has her family back AND after she kind of confessed her feelings for Caleb and Liam in no way took the bait for that. I agree that Sam is great and adds a lot comedically, but he also knows how to play things dramatically and build into things and play the long game (e.g. Scanlan - but he couldn't do that again as Veth because already been there done that as Scanlan). I think that part of the reason the fandom doesn't pay attention to Caleb/Nott(Veth) is because Nott (and even Veth to some people's eyes I'm sure) isn't attractive in a traditional way and she's odd and small. People kind of put the walls up against it before Veth even turned back into herself and before Sam kind of was just playing along as Veth. Just my two cents, there were a lot of in game allusions to Nott and Caleb having feelings for each other, but it's definitely not a popular opinion (and it's a complicated scenario because Veth is married) so I get it.

Now if the three of them wanted to work something out I wouldn't have a problem with that, but as things stand, I really like Shadowgast and Yeza is a dream husband so I don't really see the point, you know? I'm not interested in cheating, even just in stories, it's gross to me. You bring up Scanlan as proof he can commit to character and play the long game, but honestly he literally contrived a reason to get rid of Scanlan because he didn't know where to go with the character anymore. (I could write you an essay about my thoughts on Scanlan's departure and how he steadily sabotaged himself and his relationships then blamed VM for not being mind readers but I don't want to bore you lol. The majority view on those events are so irritating to me because people ignore that it's literally everything Scanlan's ever said and done coming back to bite him in the ass and a circle of depression and bad choices on Scanlan's part, not just VM being "bad friends".) That is the whole reason Tary exists! (and I love Tary and that whole storyline please don't get me wrong). And Sam only really stopped treating Scanlan as a joke when his daughter showed up. When he wants to, Sam can portray a scene that would make the most stoic monk shed a tear. My point was that it's just not his default. And honestly, another thing that bummed me out about Veth that I loved in the earlier part of the campaign was the relationship with Caleb. And I have heard Sam's explanation that Veth doesn't feel like she has to protect him anymore because they're part of a team now, but he really dropped that thread almost completely towards the end and it was very disappointing. Just in terms of their friendship, no shipping required. Veth started hanging out with Jester all the time, and I know that it was again probably just because it was fun and they were verbally sparring back and forth like an improv comedy night, but it ended up where they were best friends and Caleb was left in the dust and frankly it really sucked. (Caleb being left behind, not Veth and Jester being friends.)

You can also kinda jump right in! At first you might be lost ("why are they talking about making d**ks all the time?" (not even a joke; that was a huge part of last episode)). But after a while you'll get the hang of it! That's pretty much what happened with me: I only got into the show about a year ago, maybe least. Never watched the first half of the second campaign 'xcept for a few scenes people put online, and jumped in the middle, and I'm enjoying it! :)
