In the end she had to be scuttled and even then she landed on the sea floor the right way up meaning all that really happened is she was promoted to Submarine.

It's a massive insult to the imperial navy to have captured her, it's an even bigger insult to then refit her and use her to replace the lost of Lexington. Even if she wouldn't see combat the propaganda and spite value is too much just to sink or scrap.

@@TheLoraxshadenough Akagi would probably not be worth refitting, and nobody at that time was even consdering the idea of boarding a ship to claim it as a prize, that was something of another era almost. The Americans were too busy trying to find out what the heck was happening. Also, I'm not sure if the escort fleet was in the area or not, but I fully understand if the commander did not like the idea of sailing into a potential gunfight to maybe perhaps claim a mortally wounded aircraft carrier that was slowly being reduced to a (barely) floating iron nugget. They already had their massive propaganda victory, why risk throwing it away to maybe capture one ship, important as it may be, that was going to sink anyway?

@@the_tactician9858 considering the lost of Lexington at coral sea and the possible lost of other carriers in later engagements, capturing and using a enemy as a replacement is cheaper in time and resources then building another from scratch. Even with most electrical and flammable components were lost, half of the work is already done and installing new components would take only a small amount of time. Boarding Akagi would be out of the question considering the still ongoing fires but throwing a rope or chain around part of her and towing her like Yorktown back to port is feasible. The victory at Midway was more than enough of a propaganda victor, capturing Akagi would just be icing on the cake. The whole post is a very big hypothetical and would have been very unlikely to occur but it would be a cool idea for Yostar to play around with and maybe add a new variant or skin for Akagi that plays on this idea, kinda like NP's Eugen that's real world counter part was unfinished but the drydock was captured by the soviets.

@@TheLoraxshadenough I highly doubt they'd have bothered. The guts of the ship would be too different from what the US navy uses, making the logistics of keeping it operational a nightmare. And while yeah, you could maybe use the hull and redo everything else in it, it would take a lot of time and resources, eat up precious dockspace, and result in something inferior to what the US was building in droves, while taking about as much time as just building another Essex class carrier. That said, if they could capture her safely, they'd definitely do so for intelligence reasons, as well as the propaganda value of sailing a captured carrier into port. But a bit of a moot point, as the Japanese would have just put a volley of long lances into her, much like how the US torpedoed the Wasp, except their torpedoes generally worked (did have some issue that the wakes of large ships could prematurely detonate them, but, well that's not applicable in this case).

Eh, preserving warships wasn't really a thing at the time and everyone was broke from the war. With only really two exceptions, the only large warships to be preserved survived at least into at least the 60s in some manner of reserve capacity. Nobody was going to preserve a beat up old ship like Warspite. Not unlike how the US didn't bother preserving Enterprise because the US had an abundance of more modern carriers, meaning there wasn't really any value in even keeping her in the reserve fleet, and ship preservation just wasn't really a thing
