I used to watch a few "Men's Style" channels in my late teens, but some day I got the feeling they were too superficial (some more, some less so). The "Do this and that and women will love you" kind of videos, the increasingly annoying sponsorships and a somewhat one-dimensional, intolerant attitide got me uninterested, even disapproving, as I have a more individualistic philosophy, I guess. Recently, in my early twenties now, I developed a new interest in menswear. I'm so glad I found your channel, you have such a refreshing take on that topic paired with amazing and unique videography! Your channel is such a gem, I'm shocked you don't even have 10k subs. Keep on doing your thing!

It's funny how we are taught not to judge a book by its cover but also that first impressions count. An example I can think of: in a hospital, it's easy to spot who the medical professionals are by the white coat/scrubs/etc (first impressions). However it's also difficult to discern who the doctor/physician, nurse, lab technicians are now as they all wear white coats and scrubs (can't judge by the cover). Which then, sort of then leads to the whole discussion on who should be able to wear a white coat but that's a different argument for a different time. Anyway I agree with pretty much everything that has been said in the video. For me, I have found that I am personally drawn to more "rugged" fabrics and slightly looser fitting clothes ever since I was younger, without knowing why. Well the latter had to do with my weight but more importantly, I sort of had an image of what I wanted to look like without quite being able to explain it. Only after I developed interest in clothes and style did I realize why I preferred certain fabrics and certain fits. For example, I do enjoy wearing a suit or a sports coat with slacks, but knitted jackets and cardigans are where it's at. They both perfectly encapsulate what I want: I'm chilling on the sofa, but not completely sinking in it. Great video Demetrios with some great examples, hope to see more videos soon! Happy 4th of July. - Han

Absolut perfect examples man! It is quite crazy because it was kind of the same with me...I wanted to dress European (Southern Italian with Greek influence) with sartorially elegant yet casual vacation vibes, but in the beginning I didn't realize it. I was drawn toward that aesthetic but it wasn't until later that I realized it and took full advantage of it, knowing more clearly what to wear next. You're personal example seems just like that too. Having this preference and realizing why later in your journey. Thanks so much, Han!

Great video! Couldn't agree more on the ambassador part. Although I would like to add that dressing in a "put together" manner also communicates a certain level of respect to whoever you're meeting. In fact meeting people dressed like slobs being rude as a supermarket employee when I was a teen as well as well dressed respectful people is what made me realise this. Dressing with respect is part of respecting. Dressing like a slob is part of being rude. That realisation was the beginning of my style journey.

This is pure wisdom, and I never thought of that except in the case of religious. Every time I put on the red or black cassock I get that sense but to carry that over into your daily clothing brings that ambassador nature you are talking about. I love that word in this context but I would almost add another, stewardship. In this life you represent as an ambassador with a mission, but your mission is not yours. This is where stewardship comes in. A steward is entrusted with something and must make some benefit from that thing but ultimately it must be returned with that benefit or profit. Our body and soul is what we are stewards over but they are not ours and that is why we take care of them and make them presentable, in what we wear, how we act, and most importantly how we glorify God

As an IT guy, i really don't know how to represent. I am a guy of no religion, listen to metal and non metal songs, in a country nordic/eastern heritage(baltic). I have always been fond of viking rune like stylistic options but not overly done. Not entirely metal head but not casual t-shirt always kind of guy. More like, complex, beautiful and like nature showing shirt followed on top by a denim shirt that shows tough outer shell and jeans. So, like inside something beautiful, guarded by a stronger shell. So in a way i like to protect and care earth and nature, try to show it off and represent that? Am i on the right track? For example a flowery shirt being my thing? And like then a spiritual amulet, mjölnir or like a chinese coin on a string as a necklace showing me as being down to earth or something like that? I'm sorry if this entire comment was all mashed potatoes but it was more like a translated decoding the idea you gave me since i didn't know how or what to represent and what i wrote kind of felt right. More comfortable and being more confident than a pair on jeans and t-shirt. I might have fallen off that track a bit lately and i think i know why i have not been feeling right. I used to be that type when i wore those things and now i am not. I might have to start and pick up the pieces that i have. Thanks! Feedback and wisdom always welcome! :)
@DemetriosLevi4 жыл бұрын
Cool to see a fellow metal head here! 🤘 The jacket being the shell is actually a really cool way of looking at it! If you find yourself gravitating towards, let's say viking, Nordic, or Baltic styles, like the mjölnir for example, and floral shirts, then I'd say you do represent that lifestyle...the nature focused Nordic culture. You represent what is the most important to you I would say, and if that's nature and the Northern culture, then I would choose things that emphasize that. So if you don't wear floral shirts for instance but you love the flowers of fields or forest, try wearing a floral shirt! You may find that you really like it, and if you don't like it, then don't wear it! Maybe try olive or forest green? I find that we automatically choose clothing or gravitate towards clothing that already matches our beliefs or culture, but you sound like you're on the right track, brother

I don't fully agree with you on this one. I dress to represent myself and not to represent any social groups, hobbies, countries or whatever. This goes completely against my believes of individuality. And besides of that, I have many interests. What should I wear then? Should I dress like a rock star, like a nature lover, like an athlete? No, I don't. These are my interests and things I do in my spare time. But when I dress, I represent something different. I represent my taste. I like classic British fashion with a modern touch. It's tidy, it's slim, it's simple. It has absolutely nothing to do with the country I live in, nor with any of my hobbies. In my opinion, you are mixing two different things here in this video. One is to represent something on a special occasion (diplomats on a meeting in a different country, wedding, etc.). For me, this is a costume. And the other is to represent yourself. Which is the real deal.
@DemetriosLevi3 жыл бұрын
I mean no disrespect here, but you've completely missed the point. We are only individualistic to a certain extent and you are no exception to this. I have many interests as well: I like punk and metal (I used to dress like one entirely when I was in a band), I love nature, I love history, I love language, I love Greek, Italian, and Lebanese culture, etc. I like much of the things you do and I dress in Classic Italian fashion with a modern touch. I don't live in Italy either. I highly suggest you watch my vid that explains how to use the Socratic method to find your style in a video called "ONE EASY Trick to Finding Your STYLE FAST" You just haven't realized the why yet and challenged your presuppositions. You need to ask why do you like British fashion? Why do you like tidiness, slimness, and simplicity? Keep asking why and you will go down to the root meaning. Again, you are an ambassador for your country, your family, your people, your tribe, etc whether you like it or not. The fact that I dress like this and still occasionally listen to punk or metal still means I represent that tribe, maybe not in the way that many would like but that's besides the point. I still represent my family. I still represent my country when talking to foreigners. You represent yourself AND others. It's not an either/or false dichotomy. I love Neapolitan Margherita pizza, did what I say mean I now need to fit that into my clothes? Of course not! The claim that you or I or anyone else is a complete individual is a lie. We are individuals in a larger group. Dressing for an occasion is the "real deal" as well. The fact that you comply with the dress code for a specific occasion says something about yourself. Also by your own logic, if you're following the dress code, then you're in a costume, not authentic, which means you're not the individual you claim to be.
@thomasdc24393 жыл бұрын
@@DemetriosLevi ok, maybe we have a different definition of a costume or I've used a wrong term in this situation. In this specific situation, I meant by costume that these politicians usually don't dress like that at all. They have just used this for this situation to represent their countries. This is like a Festival in Rio, or Oktoberfest in Munich, or any traditional festivals around the world. This clothing is only used for an event. It is tradition, history, whatever. But it is not a regular clothing that you put on to the office or to go shopping. That’s what I mean by costume. And how does this represent YOU? It shows only where you came from. It shows your „tribe“. But does it say anything about your character? Or about your taste? No, because it wasn’t created by you. It is dictated from outside. And therefore I say, that it doesn’t represent you. And btw, I know why I like British fashion ;). It fits my character and my taste.
