In OCG we play Star Seraph Shaddoll since people found out this insane deck(with Soul Charges) thanks to the exclusive OCG rules that you have Scepter and Sovereignty in hand, NS Scepter c1 search Scepter c2 as Sovereignty, when Sovereignty ss itself the new added Sovereignty triggers and ss itself,making three 4 star ready to XYZ, this 2 card combo does not minus your hand, making a three materials R4 XYZ such as Delteros and ShockMaster, not mentioning Scepter can pop a card and draw 1, with Soul Charges and Shaddoll engine(Fusion helps sending Scepter to the gy), this deck can get insane value from it (draw 3 cards pops 2, foolish 2 Shaddoll Monster) with two big monster (construct and Delteros) with simply Shaddoll Fusion, Soul Charge and Sovereignty when you are going second with opponent has a extra deck monster.

I played this deck a lot on Dueling Network when I started seeing tournament results from the OCG. Its a shame Scepter and Sovereignty were released the following year in the summer. I was very fond of that deck and I kept telling my friends about how cool it was.

I miss when the Atk stat was relevant. Outing an opponent monster often meant just to summon a big beatstick (acid golem anyone?). I just returned to play yugioh after 10 years, and it is still fun, but I hate that 1 or 2 turn games are the norm now. I yearn for the days when the game had interaction, multiple turns, and back and forth gameplay.

@geek593
@geek593 3 ай бұрын
lol no It was good and completely unexplored due to having a lot of viability off of its TCG exclusives which meant without extensive testing it was unlikely you'd be prepared for the matchup but in hindsight the deck was just okay. In modern HAT it's a high roll combo deck that did exceptionally well for a few events due to the best players piloting it and the control decks that now hurt its viability in the format not being ready for it at the time. If you like how Tear plays you'll probably like Sylvans but it didn't have the same meta presence as Tear.

I think the Fiendsmith is going to boost Labyrinth and Unchained and make them tier 1. The Fiendsmith engine gives both decks easy access to Caesar. Thus giving them both 2 negates per Caesar.
@Xenonfuji
@Xenonfuji 3 ай бұрын
It's great in lab unchained. It's fine in unchained. It provides easy access to Caesar and Yama, but it doesn't do it in a way that doesn't require adding sharvara off yama. You want to be adding aruha or sarama off yama most of the time, not sharvara.
@jacobwoodard818
@jacobwoodard818 3 ай бұрын
@@Xenonfuji well yeah but your forgetting about Arias the Labrynth lv.6 monster and by doing it later into the combo you can do what you said without disrupting the flow of your combos. By making use of your extra deck monsters you can special summon The Fiendsmith from grave allowing you to make Rage with Yama and Shavara and it fixes the consistency and resiliency issues brought by the ban list. Shyama plus The Fiendsmith is still Caesar. There's also a Fabled 1 of monster that can be special summoned when discarded by the Fiendsmith rota thats a light monster for the Fiendsmith link 1 and the link 1 can special summon The Fiendsmith from the deck.
@Xenonfuji
@Xenonfuji 3 ай бұрын
@@jacobwoodard818 I did not forget about arias. I said it's good in lab. It's good in unchained, but you are not going to be running fucking lurrie in unchained like you do in lab. As of now, yes the fiendsmith package does a lot for unchained. If they do decide to revert the sharvara hit at some point though, fiendsmith is not as good as tgu was for the deck. Both get the same endboard, but TGU provides more setup and the line is more adaptable than the fiendsmith line. The issue is that TGU is way too fragile compared to fiendsmith when you only have 1 sharvara and cannot blow up TGU to dodge veiler or imperm
@jacobwoodard818
@jacobwoodard818 3 ай бұрын
@@Xenonfuji I see what your saying you weren't selling Unchained Fiendsmith Short you were just telling me the ups and downs. The point your missing though is you don't have to give up tour guide The Fiendsmith can discard himself and comeback from grave. I'm saying you can use both I found the room for that and all the necessary hand traps in a 40 card deck. It leaves 8 cards for the non-engine unless you want to remove the 2 Pot of Prosperity meaning you have to cherry pick them and depending on circumstances it can be 3 Ash Blossom, 3 Impermanence, and 2 Effect Veiler. The board breaker route can work and Nibiru and Droll can be interchangeable.

Josh complaining about Fusions and Rituals having the need to "cheat" in order to be competitive, or at least functional, is just weird. Like, at some point the game's gonna have to innovate, and you can only do so much with Yu-Gi-Oh, at least until Konami decides to break their rules. Also if you're gonna call out Fusions and Rituals having the need to "cheat", at least include the more notorious offenders. (Zoo, Swordsoul, Tri-Brigade, Floo, etc.) If Konami didn't give Shaddolls Shaddoll Fusion and El Shaddoll Fusion, much like HEROs with Miracle Fusion, there wouldn't be any innovation for the Fusions. Same thing with Nekroz and their gimmicks for Rituals.

Idk I think there’s a massive difference between HAT and Paleo. HAT is a deck running 10-12 normal summons and 12-15 traps of varying quality. The main way it advances its gameplan is by resolving Dionaea for a rank 4 + a pop/free trap or sticking artefacts on board for rank 5 plays. The hands are a really awkward boardbreaking engine where they either contest an entire board or do very little depending on whether your opponents board is susceptible to them. Whilst there’s skill involved, the deck is just filled with cards that are only good to draw in specific situations. Opening a Dionaea and never seeing Myrmelleo sucks, opening hands against a Georgia player who just set a monster and a few traps is underwhelming, opening artefacts without a way to pop them yourself is awkward - but you still play the cards because they’re good when everything works out. Paleo has a super flexible and versatile gameplan. Every card that disrupts your opponent also has the potential to further your gameplan by bringing back the paleos as monsters, which snowballs into the ability to make toads or opabinias (which themselves help to make further rank 2s). Whilst some traps are better in certain matchups than others, every card is just designed to be a tool to stay alive, gain some sort of advantage, and allow you to bring back bodies which let you swarm the field and run away with the game. HAT to me feels like a deck where you either start the game at an advantage which you never let go of, or rely on some sort of big swingy topdeck to turn the tide. Paleo frequently feels like a deck that plays from behind, but has a clear gameplan in mind that it can rely on to eventually pull ahead later in the game.
@geek593
@geek593 3 ай бұрын
@@ct1296What you're saying is basically the reason why modern HAT doesn't see a ton of Hand usage. Artifacts and traps play so well on the opponent's turn that people would rather use their normal summon to hedge later turns with Cardcar D's extra card advantage after setting a bunch of backrow.
@traplover6357
@traplover6357 3 ай бұрын
Paleos generates a snowball advantage and has less bricks versus HAT decks' emphasis for good one-for-ones based on Josh's preference for competitive decks. Even then, I'm sure he would just play Soul Charge Mermails if he were to play the retro format for fun.
