That's not what that means. They've asked her who that is before, and she couldn't answer, but any time she's asked _them_ who that is, they tell her it's Bunny. This means there is no reason to necessarily think that Bunny recognizes herself, so much as she recognizes Bunny as the right answer to that question, even though it's also the word they use to get her attention.

As future mentions, it's not really possible to say what dogs understand or do not from their behaviour, especially when it is prompted. They're not able to explain their reasoning after all. Anything you or anyone else says about the behaviour of animals is at best a loose guess and at worst just pure projection.
@futurestoryteller3 жыл бұрын
@@jimmehjiimmeehh9748 Yeah, but this stuff gets very philosophical like "How do I know you're not pretending to have feelings?" type stuff. The mirror test is a classic self-awareness experiment. It has its skeptics and detractors across the spectrum, but there are probably ways along those lines to test if Bunny understands what she's been told. Thanks for stating 'animal', instead of limiting the observation to dogs. The emphasis on intelligence for how value a life is is too high, but still, I love to think people will reconsider the 'bacon tho' "argument" after seeing videos like this.

@@Bloxeh it's not 'animals' though, it's some animals. Bees can talk, but they mainly talk about where to find nectar and pollen. Sponges don't talk.

@@Milamberinx But that's what I meant. Other animals, especially non-mammals have forms of intelligence we can not even grasp. I think we shouldn't dismiss animals as less valuable, just because they are different. Many of them are probably even more valuable in terms of contribution to eco systems. I just liked that the comment stated 'animals'. A common viewpoint is that pets are more valuable, are more deserving of protection than other species. The arguments often fit exactly the narrative in how people exploit animals. Eg "chicken aren't as intelligent as my pets, thus I can have them bred, mutilated and killed for me without questioning my exploitative consumerism". A statement like "dogs are intelligent" doesn't challenge the world view of most people. Therefore I think it is important to point out intelligence and overall worth of all animals any chance we get.

I have no doubt that she understands their meaning, by the way she responds (e.g. looking at the cat when asked where the cat is). Very consistent with the answer of this is dog/bunny... curious to see more cross-testing, for example if Dad is in front of the mirror, he can model ‘is dad’ and look at himself and point to the mirror, you model it, model it for cat. This would bring more evidence if you ask ‘who’ when its not her reflection, and she answers correctly, that she isnt just repeating ‘that’s bunny’ back to you (though i do think she understands it is her, where at first she did not or asked ‘who this’. Possibly due to her becoming old enough to get the concept? Really interesting! I think its adorable how she reports sounds she hears to you. Trying to be a guard dog :D

The buttons mean the dog can initiate conversation and guide direction and persist if not understood .....it's so liberating for the dog, who is already highly skilled at interpreting humans!

I love the look she gave at 1:48 when she pressed the wrong button like she was saying "That's not what I meant!"

Well.. She can see a human in the mirror aswell.. So it's both possibly right. 😉

@@biggic2004 Could be. To me, it seemed like Bunny was looking around for her buttons because they weren't where she thought they were. Could be some of both.

I had a space alien dog who I taught that what he saw in the mirror was a reflection by showing him my finger in the mirror, and then bringing it down on his back. It only took a few times for him to get it. After that, I would see him examining himself in the mirror, and I'd tell him what a handsome dog he was - he really was bizarre-looking, but you don't tell your dog something like that. He would look at me in the mirror and wag his tail. So by all this behavior, I came to the conclusion that he did know the dog he saw in the mirror was him.

This dog is so adorable. They deserve a show. I love that the cat is always not trying to play. The dog presses 'cat" and rhe cat is like, "fuck off. Im not trying to hang out w yall. She *bought* me from a pet store, as I'm cattle; im here by defaulted positionality."

The fact that the dog is saying who this which means it’s a human saying why am I a dog then looking in the mirror or creepy

So smart! 🧡 I’m guessing the bed makes a sound Bunny can hear when Dad lays down.

She's self aware and clearly understanding most of that. She's thinking of ways to speak. "Dad sleep" and then she yawns lol

It clearly seems she’s self aware, although all dogs may not be, I’ve heard. Clearly way above average with everything!! Really good natured too. I never thought one day in my life I’d see dogs communicating by talking buttons about “strangers” instead of barking! I wish all dogs could do that so the neighbors would have a bit more peace! We and everyone were always “strangers” to the upstairs dog even after a year! Bunny would’ve figured out in 2 days we weren’t “strangers”. I wish I had Bunny for my neighbor! 😊

Yo Bunny is growing more self aware that she's a dog. Staring at herself and responding that she is Bunny the dog. I think that's wild. Smart doggo

0:01 Mom Dog Was? (Are you my mother?) 0:18 Hi We... Friend Come (So we met each other and become friends, right?) 0:58 I heard a stranger bark of a dog and a cat hissing. 1:06 The trouble I was hearing finished 1:15 The dog was trying to catch the cat..!
@AK-jt7kh2 жыл бұрын
Possibly! I think, though, based on Bunny’s typical speech patterns, that “Hi we” and “Friend Come” and the dog & cat statements were each separate. I think she usually tries to finish a statement before asking for a response, unless she’s answering questions about a larger issue like she did when there was a “stranger” in her paw.

Forgive me for disbelieving but there are thoughts that I use that I have not a way to express, and some that I used for years before they gained a word.
