The only point of disagreement, when he talks about the increasing rates are inflationary he only spoke from the corporate/personal side of things, he didn't point out that that increases the budget deficit by the government increasing it's overall interest payment on its' debt.

what makes the fed’s rate setting any less ‘price-fixing’?

I’m guessing about fed rates / price fixing 1. It’s a target not a requirement 2. Rates are negotiated pre market 3. Contrary, Japan’s will buy all Japan bonds if necessary to hit their target 4. If US fed buys too much bonds, it shows weakness, and US fed will lose control of the small rudder for the big ship.

It seems that you are confusing the economic and financial situation of a country with the economists who are citizens of that country or who have completed their studies there
