ARMY has supported BTS in insane ways, which is why they have a close relationship. When BTS was starting out and the boys had nothing, ARMY would send them clothes, blankets, pillows, dishes, and so on. ARMY was touched to see BTS kept everything including the dishes when they moved into bigger dorms. in 2017 big hit had to announce a stop to all gifts because it was too much. The boys thru personal vlogs have shown they still keep those gifts, in Suga's birthday vlog from this year he shows a pillow in his studio he uses to sleep with that was an ARMY gift. ARMY supporta BTS like no other fandom, they rallied to get BTS on american shows like Ellen and even to the Grammys after Suga said he wanted to go in an interview. BTS has a few close ways they also keep in touch with ARMY personally. Weverse is a direct share between ARMY and BTS where they can post pics and updates outside of general social media and then thru VLive with personal vlog updates from the boys and there varitety show. Sorry for the long post, but hopefully this explains why RM always thanks ARMY first. Also if you ever want to know how they feel about the music RM's Vlives are an amazing window into how he thinks.

Very true I almost forgot about that myself, army is truely insane about the level of detail it will go through for the boys. They will help each other, send donations to charities in the name of BTS, even set up support groups so the list goes on about the ways army looks after each other and also BTS and vice versa. I am always proud when i think of that.

Here's a quick history on Big Hit: it was formed by kpop producer/writer Bang "Hitman Bang PD" Sihyuk. He worked in the kpop industry for decades and he didn't like the way it was going. He wanted artists to be themselves and to write their own music and be invested in their own careers. Authenticity of person and music is what he wanted to showcase. It's my their tagline is "Music and Artists for Healing". So he decided to start his own company. Big Hit almost went bankrupt several times. It's one of the reasons I think BTS does so well: they worked for EVERY SCRAP THEY GOT ALONE! They didn't have big company sponsorship or branding behind them. They saw others talking down to them and realized they only had themselves, family, Big Hit and ARMY supporting them. The phenomenon now is every company wants to create their own "BTS" and none of them realize that it's impossible. Nothing about BTS was manufactured, they got where they are with great music, inspiring messages, authentic personalities and the sheer will of their team and ARMY. They are lightning in a bottle!

Then I started delving deeper and I was hooked. I went from liking their songs to respecting BTS members as the fine positive young men they are. Their message is what every parent Hope's their kids can learn. ( sssshhh or at least me as a parent.) My son isn't ARMY, but I am until I die and beyond. In fact I may just ask God, "you know BTS?" Their first win was at a Music Show in 2015. It was a kind of rookie award. Meanwhile, it's not unusual for a rookie group from one of the big companies to win an award within a few weeks of debut. So... yeah... it was a long time coming for them. Now the MAMA award is a different kettle of fish. MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards) is a huge award show that's held over 3 consecutive nights in 3 different countries. It's really fabulous. So, that's why in 2016 They were blown away at winning. And re them speaking directly to their fans.. Each time after they won in the US (The BBMAs and the AMAs), they would skip the after-party, got back to the hotel and do a live-stream celebration with ARMY-- talking about their feelings and expressing their gratitude. I've never seen that in another artist.

To answer your question: BigHit was basically a super tiny company on the verge of bankruptcy before BTS blew up. Yes, they were always with BigHit; the company created BTS. Edit: Y'all make sure to turn off captions when they're unhelpful like this vid; the fan caption blocked the vid caption stating that it was other fandoms that thought BTS didn't deserve that first award that you saw. Hi. A little background for you. Originally, BTS was supposed to be a hip hop group made up of several rappers. When Bang Si-Hyuk, the CEO of Big Hit, decided to go the idol route in 2011/12, there was a shake up and several rappers left. (One decided to work as a producer at Big Hit.). And vocalists and dancers were brought on board. They even had a hidden member (V), who was a secret until debut. I guess this was to build hype and suspense. You can see what babies they were in their pre-debut clips. Anyway, it was a tough decision the rappers made. Idol life isn't for everyone. Since trainee days they have lived together. Their time is managed by the company and they have very little free time and rarely go home to see their families. It's really a hard grind and not many people are cut out for it. It's not a glamorous life at all. You can see why many rappers would not be able to make the sacrifices involved. Every company is different. There are many small entertainment companies (like Big Hit was), but the industry is dominated by the big 3 (SM, YG and JYP). These 3 have ties to all the media outlets and even have reporters in their pockets, so they control which artists get the most attention. Artists from smaller labels are often mistreated or ignored backstage. They don't get exposure in the newspapers or entertainment shows. In a way the 3 companies were instrumental in BTS' success because, in order to get exposure, Big Hit sent them on tour and developed their own reality shows-- with English subtitles. (The first one was Rookie King and it was pretty funny.) So BTS was well-known internationally before they became well-known in Korea.

Just to clarify...they didn't get their first win until 2 years after they debuted...after their beginning. And they trained together/lived together for 1-1.5 years before they debuted. So they had been working and living together 24/7 for over 3 years before they got their first Music Bank win. Their first major win was Dec. 2016...so they worked for almost 5 years before they got that win. The maknae line (Jimin, V, Jungkook) were still going to school while they were training, before debut, because they were only 14-15. So they would wake up, go to school for 9 hours, then go practice for another 8/9 hours, sleep for 5/6 hours...and repeat every day for years. They all graduated and mist, if not all, have or are pursuing college degrees through online programs. All this with practice, performances, song writing...they are the HARDEST workers, still to this day!

Okay in short RM new "The Untouchables" they are also an underground rap crew who are pretty big right now. One of them "Sleepy" introduced RM to Bang PD (Big Hit). He heard his raps and immediately wanted to work with him. The group was formed around that. There was approximately 5 or 6 other rappers at the time to form a hip hop crew. Something changed and changes were made and they formed as an idol group. Even RM & Suga struggled with the identity change. Suga at one point wanted to leave to produce and he was definitely not expecting to dance. To ensure they understood their roots they were sent to LA for a mission to understand Hip Hop, its called "American Hustle Life" they met the likes of Warren G there and understood the meaning behind hip hop. One of their last episodes they were given a misson, with a venue picked they had to arrange everything themselves, song choices, performance, flyer designs, distribution etc. So they split into teams the maknae line of JK, V & Jimin went out on the streets to distrubute flyers for the performance. It was a success and they came back from LA. Thats the start of BTS in short.
@ladynanshi
@ladynanshi 4 жыл бұрын
Small clarification: American Hustle Life was filmed in early summer of 2014 and premiered in Aug/Sept of 2014. BTS debuted in June 2013. So they were already a year into their career with hip hop songs under their belt. They were also recording their 'dark and wild' album which had a lot of hip hop songs already created. Just wanted to clarify that bc some ppl get the wrong idea that they learned hip hop from that 2 week show. I think they got more inside of what hip hop meant (writing about ur life and struggles) from the US and not what ppl in Korea think it means: like being "macho" and talking about drugs and girls. But soon after they changed their style anyway and came out with 'I need U' a few months later and the rest is history.

Speaking of the "Big 3 Companies" it's important to realize that they had an iron fist around K-entertainment. Not just music but TV, commercials, models, actors. etc. In South Korea, they're often packaged, and so for a no-nothing company to come and break into that previous iron curtain........legends. And we're not just talking music but these companies also control the media....TV, newspapers, online.....complete control. And BTS broke into that......from nothing. And then to answer your questions about "where were we?" when BTS broke into the west....that's the thing about media. We often don't see how controlled the content is. Previously, there was an element of band breaking into the scene, however, large corporations (like in Korea) controll what gets put on radio and TV. The fact that BTS broke not only the iron hold of the "Big 3" in Korea but also broke through the American music market as well??? Honestly......legend status is all you can really say. Definitely go to a concert if you get the chance (though ticket are tough to get). You're ABSOLUTELY RIGHT about them living for the music. The truly, sincerely care about the music and message. This music and message is made possible because of their strong brotherhood. They are CLOSE close. Brothers. They use their bond and their love of music, and they translate this into their performance and bond w/ ARMY. Really happy to see your journey.

Sorry for the long comment: People pretty much answered most of your questions but I also want to point out that while they debuted in 2013 and got their first win two years later, BTS was actually formed in 2010-ish so for a three year span, BTS were trainees for something they didn't even know would be a thing. RM and SUGA were in the group at that point in 2010 and I think J-HOPE came a little later than SUGA (calling them their stage names since y'all are still relatively new to the fandom). RM and SUGA were both underground rappers who were putting their musical credibility on the line. J-HOPE's underground dance group was already very successful so he put that on hold for BTS. Jin comes from a wealthy family and was in college around the time he joined BTS so I think it's amazing how he went from that to pretty much living in those conditions with perfect strangers because he believed in BTS. Jungkook, Jimin, and V were still teenagers around the time they joined BTS (pre-debut). Jungkook was obviously the youngest at 13-14 (15 in Korean age) so he and his parents really took a chance letting him move with them. I think knowing about their pre-debut conditions really made me appreciate BTS and their success. They've had hardships clearly when they debuted but what happened before really made me feel connected to them.

This video is so important, I love your reactions. 1. It is a BIIIIIIG deal that they won a daesang (grand prize) since they are the first non big 3 group to do that. It's like your favorite basketball championship game and one team with i-dont-know-these-guys players suddenly won the season. 2. Receiving hate is NORMAL in kpop. Unlike Western fanbase where it's "Oh you like T swift? Cardi B? Shawn Mendes? Cool man. I'm a Camilla fan. Congrats to Arianna for winning" In kpop it's "Oh do you stan XXX? I'm a fan of YYY and I want them to win instead of XXX". Not all fans are like this but the sad part of having loyal fanbases is that some are TOO loyal to the point of being immature. BTS came out of nowhere and fans from different groups don't like it. They see BTS as a threat, and doubted them because no one had such growth like that. I stan so many groups and I can honestly say that they are able to be on top because they never let those hate stop them. They make more INSPIRING and MEANINGFUL music instead of being bitter towards the world who gave them so much tears. That is beautiful.

yeah bighit was a small company, it was really unknown and in debt so they couldn't give bts the stuff groups from bigger companies got, so they had to share a room in a small apartment, wear off brand clothes, use staff cars for filming, etc. bighit made more than all the top entertainment companies in korea this year thanks to bts!

Actually antis think BTS and their agency Big Hit Entertainment are milking BTS fans/ARMYs when these agency just released the same merch as usual like old times. They release the same merch but with different content. Also added some merch to help with their partner UNICEF for #LoveMyself and #EndViolence. The members always donate money to UNICEF every month and ARMYs also made charities under the name of BTS and also help the environment and send sponsors for animals.

Amazing ARMY really came through for them.I know BTS with Big Hit, a small company weren’t able to do much for them at first but now have been collecting hate mail and have been able to take legal action against haters. I watched a fan/cam of Japan concert last night to see how hard they work...man! They are in my hearts for speaking at the UN, their humbleness and passion. I turned my grand daughter to them six months ago. Y’all take the time to appreciate others and you have big hearts yourself. Thanx for your reaction!

Continuing on (sorry last post was a bit big), right where was I? Korean music at that point had 3 major agencies (SM, JYP & YG) entertainment, they are big players in the industry. Smaller agencies didnt really get a look it and struggled, BTS were considered trash right from the start. Hence when they won the award another fanbase who was from the big 3 at that time, shouted voting rigged and it started from there, any success BTS was to have was for other reasons. What the other agencies and artists lacked at that time is that BTS were massive on social media. Other groups were not. I have to be careful as i dont want to start a fanwar but while army is protective and can be vocal the other group can more than vocal and pretty extreme at times, thats not to say army doesnt have those times either. Anyhow fanbase got involved a few times with shouting rigged and didnt like they won award after award at that time. Kpop and asian artists are usually pretty humble for the most part and BTS were struggling with their popularity id themselves and it would of been alot of pressure to have success followed by so much hate and accusations. It didnt help as you noticed Suga & RM also partially lost their identity as well because they switched from underground rapping to idol, one being raw the other being factory manufactured. When rappers become idols the underground rappers dont tend to recognise them, or doubt their ability as artists. So while JK & Jhope learnt rap from both Suga & RM, it would of been more isolation for them at that time as well, more than the other group members.

Bang PD nim company long time ago used to be under JYP entertainment company. Big hit managed for few years JYP's group 2AM which was pretty known in Korea at the time that's how Big hit afforded to debut BTS. The company was small but the quality was good, Band Pd nim was always known to be a good producer in korea but mainly for his Ballad songs and bcuz he worked with Park Jinyoung (JYP) many years before opening his own company.

Big Hit was never UNDER JYP. Bang PD worked for and was a close friend of PJY (Bang was the composer/producer for many hit songs for JYP artists and he was well known and respected in the industry). Bang and Park went together to USA and lived together. After that Bang decided to create his own label and left JYP. They had a contract indeed to co-manage 2AM, but Big Hit was never under JYP, it has always been an independent label. Did that contract help Bang keep BH afloat? Yes. Was it a deal based on his long term friendship and bond with PJY? Yes. But business wise saying BH used to be under JYP is false.

A few things to mention for you. Big Hit was a small company, they did have a few groups and I believe a solo artist before BTS. When the guys auditioned, individually, the company was almost broke...that's why they used producers and their own personal vehicles in MV's. When they did make it into the company, they have to train. When they train (this is actually all the companies in Korea), the group moves away from their families and live and train together. Now depending on the person, will actually depend on how long of training. For some (like Jimin) a year, for others it can go as much as 8 years, that's why sometimes u hear the phrase, "when I was a trainee" a lot. Now as for video of them asking ppl to come to their concert in the streets of L.A. well Big Hit was able to send all the guys over to America while they were training. And they trained with several different ppl, including Warren G. and Coolio. They made a show around it called BTS : HUSTLE LIFE. in that clip they guys were sent out to do self promotion. In Korea every company has a PR group to help them..our guys were self promoting so that they could feel the satisfaction of knowing that they did it themselves. Mind you thst filmed it before their debut...so I don't believe anybody knew who they were. You should really check out "Hustle Life". You will see how much they have grown and matured...I hope this helped a little...good luck....

Although it's never been officially stated (due to possible govt repercussions) the song is thought to be a tribute to the victims of this disaster

And yes I feel the same about US entertainment. No doubt artist here work hard, but it always feels like it's all about the $$$. And when the accounts are filled up, the entertainer is fizzling out, unwilling to continue. Also I feel their only interest in their fans is the money spent. BTS is truly interested to perform, they love going on concerts to bring happiness. And let me tell you, if you have 2.5 hours free time, watch one of many concerts posted on YT. BigHit does not take them down. I watched the 2019, day 2, Wembley Stadium concert. Amazing, and I was thrilled to find out that each member has a solo. I was hooked after that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZyyqXucfbeNgdE All 7 members were turned into honey and butter puddles at the final ment.

Most kpop idols leave home and live in dorms at the company (BTS -Big Hit). Jungkook was 13 (the youngest), and Jin was 19 (the oldest), but basically the older boys raised Jungkook since he was 13. And did a good job of it. It was other fandoms that said BTS didn't deserve the award. They petitioned the Blue House (like our White House) to take the award back. BTS was the underdog and the outlier, and most of the other Korean fandoms had not been paying attention to the international ARMYs who had joined ranks with the Korean ARMY. Billboard award 2017... Justin Bieber had won Top Social Artist 6 yrs in a row. This is a fan voted award, and ARMY votes passionately. JBeiber came in #2 with 32+million votes, and BTS came in #1 with 300+million votes. Billboard paid attention after that.

Information on a tidbit: at 17:44 when you guys went, "Aww..." that was Yoongi/Suga on the floor crying. It was the end of the concert, and all of the members' parents were at different places in the audience. The finale/farewell music was playing and BTS was walking around waving and saying goodbye. Yoongi squinted into the audience where he eventually found his parents, and went down into a full bow where his head touched the floor. Because of their (now ancient) history of contention over his career dreams, that was in the background as he gave them honor in the moment. They had long since become supportive and proud, but Yoongi was just overcome with it all. Our ever-thoughtful Jimin is the one who was crouched down next to him. He stayed there with his hand on Yoongi's back until he was finally able to get up again and continue on. It's one of my favorite touching moments between any of the members.

I love your reactions! You know, most ARMYS are drawn to BTS not just bc their music is dope but because they are humble, genuine musicians and passionate. I remember back when I first discovered them in July 2015 and in early 2016 when they first really started taking off, reporters and drama channels were digging so hard to find dirt on them from their past to expose. They finally had to admit that the rarity had occurred. They couldn't find even one story to dish on. They're just good guys. Jungkook has even been seen MANY times cleaning up after broadcasts like the k-idol Olympics. Not just cleaning up after himself or other BTS members but following the cleanup crew around picking up garbage that anyone had left. Not just once either. They're all like that. They were raised right by their parents/grandparents and BigHit and the founder/CEO, Bang Shiyuk had the same effect on them. Stay humble. Never forget your roots. Write and sing about what's important to you, what you've experienced or hope to experience. They. Are. Family.

... they actually started off living in a TINY one bedroom apartment. And most one-bedrooms in Korea are really REALLY small. Like the whole apartment is really really small. So the room that you saw was all of them in three sets of bunkbeds and one single bed. They actually got out on the streets of L.A. and asked (begged) people to come to their FREE show. So can’t nobody tell me nothing about BTS because even though they’re millionaires, they get excited by small gifts like a rice cooker or a bag of Ramen noodles. Now that’s humble. That’s why I stan them.

We ARE BULLETPROOF! As long as we stick only with Bangtan and work hard EVERY SINGLE DAY we will reach THE GOAL. The goal is not money & fame although we know 💰💰💰will give them power to spread their message. The goal is to make them UNTOUCHABLE so they can’t be hurt and they can spread their music around the globe. BTS & ARMY fight an incredible amount of hate from the kpop industry and racism/xenophobia in the West each day. If BTS and ARMY continue with pure hearts they will remain protected as God’s favorite children. Plus as we always say, Karma is an ARMY!

It's still amazing to me that even after BTS began to be huge worldwide, they were still not respected and recognized in their own country outside of ARMYs. You can find a DKDKTV video from just about a year ago what people in SK thought of BTS and some still didn't know about them. And that's because of the classism and cliqueism from the Big 3 that dictated that they were not supposed to succeed because they were from a small company, started with no budget, didn't have the connections in the business and were therefore "nugu" (like "who?"). Blocked by media, disrespected on live broadcast, ignored even when they began getting successes, slandered and insulted by fans of other groups... and then when they began to get noticed internationally, they had racism, xenophobia, English-language supremacism to deal with in countries that thought people from South Korea had no business being recognized in an American-dominated music industry. Nothing was handed to them. They didn't have the automatic legitimacy, resources, and prestige of being debuted by the "Big 3". They worked and fought and struggled to constantly improve themselves, show their best, give their best, and believe in themselves. And ARMY stood by them the whole time - facing mockery and bullying the whole time, and defending BTS from the insults and the media play that worked against them. This is why the BTS+ARMY relationship is so strong. This is why ARMYs will always defend them and root for them and support them. We saw how hard they worked, how much sincerity they put into their work, and how much they had to suffer simply because according to their industry, they weren't "supposed" to succeed and so people tried to make sure they didn't. But they're good, decent, hardworking men and everything they do is to try to make sure their platform and position can help others. They deserve all the respect and support in the world. Thanks for watching this video, and sorry for the novel-length comment. 😂💜

Love your reactions and your insights. Yes bts has passion for music and they love doing it. They are telling their stories through their music. So proud to be an army.

4:18 Yeah I remember during the time BTS first showed up on entertainment shows and stages on TV, there were tons of startup entertainment companies that launched their own new idol groups that, sadly, just fell out so quickly getting forgotten in a week or a month. Like since the singers from the big 3 entertainment companies namely, YG Ent, SM Town, and JYP Ent, at the time were super popular that kpop would start to get known all over asia, an underdog survivor like BigHit Ent is considered a miracle. On 2013-14 when BTS debut with their first album, they were competing with EXO from SM Town, Got7 from JYP., and Bigbang from YG. But they still managed to get known, that is truly something.

One more thing I remember! it was that during that time if a Kpop star never stood at the Tokyo Dome they weren't considered to be superstars yet. And here we've got BTS that just circumnavigates the globe hitting up all the stages in the Western countries haha
