Cypher made a code which allowed him to meet with the Machines with the Machines being aware of him. The Operators were there to keep the Machine from finding the humans who were not operating within the Matrix and giving them a way to log out. Its not a plot hole. The Machines wanted Cypher's help, so they let him log out without the need of an Operator.

On top of that operators control the training simulations as well as setting up the prep simulations like the infinite armory. I think operators are mostly there because humans at the time really wouldn't trust a computer program to have control over something as important as if they can get in and out of the matrix alive or not.

Back to the Future: my best friend and I went through highschool together, all 5 years from start to grad, and the amount of people she straight up doesn't know from our grade is shocking. She doesn't remember names or faces (granted none of them lead her to meeting the love of her life). I'll start tellibg her some shocking goss and she will have no idea who I'm talking about AND THEY WERE IN OUR CLASS. We are only 28 and I'm still amazed by it.

Hell, when I was 10-12 or so, I used to ride the bus with a girl who was my best friend for several years. I remember she had straight brown hair and a scar near her mouth. We rode the bus every day together. If you were to show me pictures of several girls with that description, I couldn't pick her out.

Plus Cypher was going in specifically to meet with the Matrix agents, so the agents permitted him easy access to come and go. Neo and the rest of the crew are hunted by the Matrix, and it helps to have at least someone outside in a position to see the bigger picture to monitor the connections, to alert for incoming system threats, and to help guide them to alternate escape routes when they get detected.

The only person who would’ve thought of the life jacket hack under those conditions is Jimmy Neutron mid Brain blast. But that doesn’t mean the Mythbusters are full of shit. Their whole goal is to see if something is possible, and they proved it was.

8:45. The operators are needed for position, warning/ direction (if agents invade) and extraction. If Cypher planned on only going to one place, meeting with agents on good terms, and extracting after a set amount of time, that algorythm sounds pretty possible for an in-matrix hacker to figure out.. you know, by sci-fi logic

Regarding the Thor one, it was actually stated and shown in a prequel comic to The Dark World how Thor got to earth with Dark Magic long before Infinity War, not to mention that line from Loki in Avengers I feel was explanation enough anyways. Plus, it's also stated in Avengers that they intended to use the Tesseract's power to repair the Bifrost (I think it's also brought up in the prequel comic too), hence it being fixed in Dark World after Thor brought the Space Stone to Asgard with Loki.

If you think of it logically, it makes sense that they'd have other ways of transportation between realms that predated the Bifrost. Dark World even brings up how Loki used them previously as well. Plus, considering the Thor stuff being heavily magic based, saying he got back with magic is totally believable; and calling it 'dark magic' pretty much explains why they prefer to use the Bifrost, because of beliefs/dark magic usage being frowned upon. To add to your point, in the first movie it's established that Heimdall's sword is the key to operating the Bifrost, but when Odin banishes Thor he uses his staff and lightning to open the Bifrost and blast him through it. Given that at the time of The Avengers, the real Odin is still alive, it doesn't take a jump in logic to assume that he can easily access the so called dark magic needed to send Thor to Earth especially given how badly Asgard wanted Loki to be captured. Considering that Odin falls into the Odinsleep shortly after he banishes Thor, it also adds into the reason they prefer the easy way of using the Bifrost.

If we need a solution to not using the pipes in Inside Out, I’d say 1) the pipes can take back orbs, not homunculi 2) Joy doesn’t trust the other 3 to take care of the core memories until she gets back 3) core memories are too powerful to use the pipes I totally made up #3 but it could have easily worked in the movie. 15-30 second sequence of Joy saying “wait that thing can take orbs back to the control room?” Trying it, then either backing out at the last second afraid fear, disgust, or anger would touch and corrupt them (like sadness had) or trying to put it into the pipe but they get shot back out at her to which a maintenance worker says “woah that’s a big one you may need to bring it up manually”

I always wondered whether that was what Cypher was doing when Neo startled him. I reckon it's partly the reason why he tries to make Neo think he was looking at girls ("All I see is blonde, brunette, redhead...") cos he knows Neo can't 'read' the code on the screens and see that he's actually talking to Smith. It's also why Cypher turns off the other screens once he knows Neo is there.

My question is how Rose survived at all. She was clearly mostly submerged at one point, leaving every inch of her and her clothes soaking wet. You can survive freezing temps whilst wet for some time, and I understand it’s never stated how long before a boat came back. But how was she not dead from hypothermia within 10-15 minutes?

One thing I always wondered about the Matrix is how he sat up in the pod before being flushed out. After he gets picked up by Morpheus and crew they have to hook him up to electrodes to get his muscles strong enough so he can move around. If he's too weak to move until they give him the electrode therapy, how could he have sat up in the pod or had the strength to pull the feeding tube out?

I always thought that. There was an operator but the operator didn't know what Cypher was doing. I understand the confusion, tho, because the scene of Cypher and Smith happens just before the conversation between Neo and Cypher, and Cypher is alone when Neo leaves, but we really can't know if Cypher plugged himself to the Matrix just after that. BTW, there is a scene when they are all in the Matrix where Cypher discards his phone. The framing suggest that action was kind of important, but we really don't know why he does that. My hypothesis is that mobile phones are used for tracking, but only when they are carried by the one being tracked. He could have done that same thing when he met Smith.

The Back to the Future one, I always thought that George and Lorraine might have thought at some point that their son was the spitting image of the guy who got them together, but I doubt that even a sci-fi nerd like George would actually believe that time travel is a reality and think that "Calvin Klein" was their son all along. Bear in mind that Doc Brown has a reputation for being a bit of a nutter, so I think it's safe to assume that nobody believed he could invent something as far out and advanced as a time machine. Remember when Lorraine's mum said that Marty looked familiar to her and Lorraine commented that kissing Marty was like kissing her brother? Neither of them jumped to the conclusion that he was their future son/grandson, so I think it would be reasonable to assume that George and Lorraine probably rationalised it as a coincidence.

Star Trek's biggest plot hole is toward the end. They go to warp to escape the black hole, but are being pulled in anyways. So they eject the warp core, meaning they can no longer hold their speed and that they would fall into the hole at a much accelerated rate. If you want another movie with plot holes, the entire movie "Back to the Future II" is based on a massive paradox. When Biff goes back and gives his younger self the book, the entire future old Biff came from would cease to exist. Since Doc Brown was murdered, he wouldn't of lived long enough to invent the time machine and even if he had, the future old Biff returns the delorean to wouldn't have existed for him to go to.

When old Biff returns to his timeline, you can see he is in much pain. That's not explained in the movie, but there was a deleted scene that showed old Biff disappearing from existence, as should be. You are right, the Delorean should have disappeared too, but maybe time-machines are exempt from those delayed-ripple-effects?

For inside out, the film is a allegory for depression and when you are depressed you struggle to grab hold of easy obvious solution. For example if you’re in a harmful relationship, the obvious solution is to leave and anyone outside can see that but it’s not so easy when it’s you. Never saw the Cypher one as a plot hole. Operators are required to make a connection in and out of the Matrix. Connections which the agents and the system are trying to block. But Cypher working with the agents, I always assumed they gave him a backdoor access. The actual plot hole in the Matrix is the turning of humans into batteries thing.

exactly!! Marty wasn't just a dude that showed up for a week and went away. The guy had all sorts of skateboarding adventures, played Johnny B Goode at the Dance, was hit by a car by Lorraines dad and actually spent the night there, was a sexual interest of Lorraine, saved Lorraine from being sexually assaulted by Biff (kind of), and was ultimately the catalyst in the two of them becoming a thing. I mean, Hill Valley High School may be a rockin school, but that week had to by far be the most eventful thing to ever happen to them!!

The BttF one is the perfect example of bad criticism. As stated, it has a perfectly boring everyday explanation that's doesn't affect the plot. It's more an example of the insane need to have everything spelled out, from "oh no my tea was poisoned" (Dr Strange 2) to "oh, that's how Han got his random set decoration" (Solo)

That is a time paradox as someone else mentioned, but not necessarily a plot hole. Take what we know about the franchise and extrapolate and you have a very simple answer: In a previous "loop", a desperate move by humans in the future led to them sending someone back in time to try to stop the creation of Cyberdyne. John Connor didn't exist at this point, but a resistance movement still came about and sent someone back in time to try to stop the rise of the machines. That someone was Kyle Reese, and while he is in the past he hooks up with Sarah Connor. Probably just stumbled into the diner she worked at Now you have everything in place for the events of the films to occur on the next loop - Cyberdyne created the terminators, humanity was nearly wiped out before John (presumably after Sarah dies) decides he can't just stay in hiding and starts gathering up survivors to form a resistance movement which turns the tide. Now its Cyberdyne making the desperation move to time travel in an attempt to win the war. The first Terminator film takes place at this point. Of course, this also means that, like the Matrix series, it is entirely possible that there were dozens of loops that occurred before all of this.

The plot hole for Back to the Future is quite easily explained by this one point. George, Elaine and Biff wouldnt remember Marty because they know that time travel doesnt exist. Think about it. We, as the audience, knew that Marty went back in time. But for any of them in the past, nobody would believe that their son is the same person.

Not only was Marty there just a week but they didnt spend much time with him and nobody ever got a photo of the guy. Then 30 years passed. And during his lifetime Marty slowly grew and his face changed so they would not have noticed it or put the two together.

I always thought that in the third Back To The Future they could have easily solved the "gasoline doesn't exist in 1855" problem by going to the Delorean that Doc hid in the cave and siphoning the gas out of it, if he hadn't already. Not sure if that counts as a plot hole but it certainly was an overlooked solution to their problem.

If you know anything about cars....you can't leave gas or fluids in a car for too long....and they didn't want to alter what doc did to the cave cause if they messed up then Marty would be in a paradox and not be able to go back with doc in 1885

@@ianvchavez I completely get that(by that logic Marty would of had to spend a solid few days getting the Delorean to run after a 100 years sitting, I have a '69 Fastback and that thing was a pain flushing the fluids to get it to stay running and it only sat for 20 something years). As a scientist Doc would probably have taken the gasoline out of the Delorean before storing it, so the it's more likely he used it all in experiments before Marty made it back.

The first Avengers film actually shows how the bifrost was (most likely) repaired. At the end, when Thor takes Loki and the tesseract back to Asgard, they turn the device the tesseract is in, and it takes them to Asgard. When you look at the ground where they teleported, there’s the same marking on the ground that the Bifrost makes

My whole issue with number one. James Cameron himself went ot the mythbusters to test that myth upon the re release of the movie in theatres. Also, they had the other solution of if Jack and Rose alternated it was plausible they both lived to see rescue. No offense to a legendary director I never met, but coming out a few years later to decry a result he himself asked to test.... Not a good look

Yeah I recall him being accepting and chill with it in the episode. Basically "Yes, it's possible but it's just not something that happened in this story" which was fine. There are plenty of scenarios where something could've gone much better if the participants had certain knowledge or a certain frame of mind or remained more calm but, just like real life, people often don't.

The Back To The Future explanation is incorrect for one major reason: Lorraine is later shown (the original 1985timeline) as beholden to memory. It's a classic plothole and the excuse given for it by the film-makers betrays its own characters.

The Inside Out one is pointless. The entire movie is allegory. Riley didn't actually have five mini-people living inside her head, or a forest made out of mini french fries, or an actual train that goes around and around inside her brain. Most of these were never plot holes to begin with. There is a difference between a plot hole (where a movie's fails to follow its own logic) and a character error (where a character does something we don't consider logical). Jack "tried" to get on the door, but he failed and they didn't keep trying. Marty's parents didn't recognize him. Joy didn't think of having the maintenance workers help. And so on. Just because a viewer can think of a way around a particular puzzle that a character didn't (or think they would have better memory years later) doesn't mean it is a plot hole. It just means that the character isn't perfect.

He stole it from the psychiatrist when he was talking to him. There's a scene where the doctor is fiddling with it while taunting Hannibal, and Hannibal is intently staring at the pen. That scene is placed there to show that he is able to grab the pen from the doctor, who carelessly leaves it lying unattended. The two guards were assumed to be safe up there alone with him. Once Hannibal incapacitated them both, he had plenty of time to kill and pose them. Then, he just had to wait until the other guard came back to retrieve the empty tray.

In The Matrix, the use of operators are needed no matter what happens as they can look for "exits" and give live feedback from what is happening in the matrix... Cypher made a program that probably used a timer, meaning that he would go in with a countdown until the "exit phone" is called for him to get out. Yes it's a mind bender, but plausible within the rules of the movie.

The way that George and Lorraine look at Marty and Jennifer at the end of the film… they know. The issue is, they can’t let Marty know that they know until he’s gone back in time, but they don’t know when that will be. The way he’s acting weird that morning indicates that it’s probably happened.

Yeah I always just figured it was an Aunt May situation. Even then, THEIR account of events is effectively that they got together because of antagonism with Biff, since Marty did most of his work offscreen. To them it isn't like "We wouldn't have kissed if Calvin didn't play that song" or "George wouldn't have knocked out Biff if Calvin didn't do something at some point [shrug]". Calvin's just a guy who tagged along with them for a week then disappeared.

Its quite obvious why operators are needed. They are there to provide directions, alerts and new exits if the original gets compromised. You most likely can code yourself an entry and exit points by yourself but it getting cut off is likely if anything goes wrong and thats where the operator comes in. Its not that hard to comprehend while watching the movie and what the operator does during it.

George is a science fiction nerd. I think he probably took interest in time travel after The Time Machine came out in 1960. There's also no way he could forget someone like Marty who came in one week and changed his life. Why would someone like that come into his life and care about his relationship? Maybe he's from the future. Maybe that's his son. I mean, Marty does accidentally call him dad. Marty was most likely born in '69 and what was founded a year prior? Calvin Klein. I can see George asking a pregnant Loraine what she thought Marty's name was before finding out she was wrong and considered that CK is a clothing brand and the only time she saw that name was on his clothes. I bet that just put the icing on the cake and made George believe that it was his kid that he met in '55. I also think that the reason why they credit Biff so much is because they know Marty is the one who goes back in time and they didn't want to mess up the timeline by telling the truth. Even if it's a silly theory, George probably would take it serious because of how much he loves Loraine.

At about 8:45 .. Why need an opperator when writing lines of code could so the same? Very simple, because the environment you are going to ( the matrix ) is hostile to the travelers, if any method of entry into the system is used too often the machines could triangulate the positions of the ship and the position of the entry point inside the matrix. Cypher already had some agreement with the machines and the machines needed his information very badly, so "Mr Reagan" had a "free pass" and whould not need a backup plan or improvisation for an alternative route out. Neo and Morpheous were almost constant in need of backup plans, monitoring the surroundings and very much improvisation from the person at the controls..

I don't buy Bob Gale's explanation at all. Marty had a major impact on their lives. He's not some random guy they went to high school with for a week. Also, you may not be able to remember the faces of friends you had in high school. But if they were important to you, you would recognize them when seeing them. You can look at old high school photos and pick out people by name. At least I can.

The biggest plot hole in “Back to the Future” was that alternative future where that one bully who tried to rape Marty’s mom was then hired to work at the McFly home. I understand having an open relationship may have been common during that time, but rape is rape. How is everyone okay with that?

There's a worse mistake in that scene from Titanic. It may not be a plot hole since it isn't crucial to the overall narrative, but it's a big inconsistency: Jack sinks after Rose lets him go. Dead bodies float, both in real life and in the movie. They're all over the place in that scene. Thematically, I understand why it happens. Despite her love for Jack, she has to let him go and not be tied down in order to live a fulfilling life for herself, and watching Jack disappear into the deep is a striking visual that really drives that point home, but it's also preposterous and makes no sense.
