I’m surprised the Lovely Bones (2009) didn’t make the list. The fact that half the movie involved the victim’s little sister figuring out what happened and the gross killer getting away to go on doing the same thing to other kids until his untimely demise years later in an accident was especially irritating.
@TonyA55210 ай бұрын
You forgot the original "Death Wish" (1974) with Charles Bronson. He was driven to his deadly rampage when a group of thugs invaded his apartment and killed his wife (played by Hope Lange). This movie was notable as one of the thugs was played by Jeff Goldblum in his first screen role and that the home invaders are never caught and punished for their crime which was unusual for movies back then.

Crimes and Misdemeanors by Woody Allen! One of my favorite movies. Not only does the killer get away with it, they feel no guilt in the long run. Some neat playing around with the idea that there is no karma in life.
@oliverholmes-gunning537210 ай бұрын
Probably my favourite Woody Allen movie ever, it makes some genuinely interesting points on morality and justice while also being absolutely hilarious (the scene where Allen's character shows his cut of the documentary to Alan Alda ranks among my top 10 funniest comedy moments of all time😂)

The Fact that Woody Allen himself has gotten away with his crimes.. Is even more insane than any of those movies.
@oliverholmes-gunning537210 ай бұрын
@@rzn2258 Allen has been acquitted twice, and that combined with the numerous inconsistencies and retractions in the Farrows' statements makes me suspect there is a lot more going on there than it would appear on the surface. The guy is undoubtedly pretty weird, but has never done anything demonstrably illegal. If he is indeed guilty of the horrific crimes he has been accused of then he deserves to be locked up and have the key thrown away, but "innocent until proven guilty" is still the foundation behind the Western criminal justice system, and rightly so

The original Dutch film “Spoorloos,” aka “The Vanishing.” There was an Americanized remake that ruined the punch of the ending, with the killer getting killed himself, but in both versions, the audience and the protagonist both know who the killer is by the end, even being walked through how he did it.

In Edgar Allan Poe's short story, "A Cask of Amontillado", arrogant "Montressor" lures a friend, "Fortunato", deep into his catacombs on the promise of some fabulous wine. Once there, he WALLS IN his drunken victim, and we never even find out why he did it! The epilogue has Montressor telling the reader the story, and reveals that the body of his victim has remained undiscovered for 50 YEARS. When I read the short story, in my mind, I pictured Vincent Price as Montressor... and Basil Rathbone as Fortunato. (I was probably thinking of Price as "Prince Prospero", and Rathbone as "Carmichael", from the Roger Corman films.)

True, but it's also what makes the movie SO frustrating to me, as it's one of my favorite books ever. In the book, when Susie's in heaven, they play a game that's basically "make the perfect crime." She chooses an icicle as the weapon because the evidence melts. So at the end, the icicle on the building shakes, he gets stabbed by it and you're just like HELL YEAH, UNIVERSE. It's awesome, and the movie was such a disappointment.

The thing with the Zodiac killer is the same with many serial killers (like Jack the Ripper) there can be a sudden stop & leave cops scrabbling round for an answer when the killer themself died from natural causes, got hit and killed by a drunk diver and so on. A totally "natural" or rather mundane incident can kill thm just as easily as it can kill someone else. so leaving the film of a serial killer who didnt get caught makes sense.
