*Stuntpeople deserve Oscar recognition* It’s insane those people, who take the biggest risks for films, don’t get recognized for it.
@ClassifiedRanTom
@ClassifiedRanTom 4 жыл бұрын
Not just the performers too, you need stunt coordinators to block the whole scene out and make sure it’s safe. They’re the ones who make the stunts look so spectacular, they deserve some credit too.
@belle.m
@belle.m 4 жыл бұрын
They do get credit, just most people walk out of the movie then. They always list stunt performers in the credits. Though I believe if the actor they do stunts for is nominated or wins an award then they should get them too.

Belle Melvaine then why do we give actors, directors, and writers distinct Oscar categories?? They are all listed right there in the credits too, with the marquee names getting it before and after the movie. Shouldn’t that be more than enough credit for those groups?

I giveup No. we’re recognizing the actual people who pull off literal death-defying stunts, so particularly our action heroes can look badass in their movies. A participation trophy would be the “lifetime achievement awards” already handed out by the Oscars, because they aren’t being awarded for a specific acting job or role, but basically for being successful in hollywood for +20yrs. That’s the epitome of a participation trophy. Stunt teams and stunt people’s *work* is what I’m saying needs to be recognized, as being worthy of praise equal to the actors they risk their lives for. Just 1 example from a much longer stunt sequence: successfully and safely, pulling off a double 20sec burn stunt, being catapulted 52ft into a lake 18sec in, and then finally the 2 stunt performers having to stay underwater in a water collecting 47lb burn suits for another 10 seconds, all at night. Exactly what the stunt team for Freddy vs Jason successful pulled off. The entirety of that movie’s many stunts got them nominated for a single “Taurus Award”, which I’m sure 99% of people don’t even know is even a thing.

Could have also mentioned how the child actors who were killed in the Twilight Zone movie were being used in violation of a California law that prohibited child actors from working in close proximity to explosions and pyrotechnics, and from working after dark. I keep remembering the graphic video every time when I watch the Twilight Zone movie. Don't forget the helicopter was flying to low in the scene that the pyrotechnics also cause the pilot to have flashbacks of PTSD and crash onto them. The PTSD I'm uncertain, supposedly the pilot was Vietnam vet and ended up having flashbacks from the explosions that caused him to crash. As for the kids, they weren't from the country which gave the filmmakers the ability to film and pay them less for the scene (and avoid certain laws that only applied to people born in the US). It's after the lawsuit that laws were created to prevent any child actor from a situation like this.

@@phattjohnson Social Media started the fight by clamping down on people posting to be "inciting violence" on others, "legitimizing racism", etc. So legislation clamping down on social media for their lack of respect to the first amendment is worth legislating in my opinion. Especially considering unnamed groups of people working for corporations are the ones making the harsh decisions that can affect small businesses and regular people. I think the allowance of moderation is what screwed up forums and social media. A long time ago, if you have no moderation, then you're a platform. If you moderate, then you're a publisher. I actually had to look that one up but it requires a bit of context. Although in the 1950s, radiation damage was well understood, the exact AMOUNT of radiation damage, and how much the common people understood wasn't exactly stellar. They were still less informed than we were. It was at the time 'lead paint' was seen as something that could save your life in your house. Second, the crew was informed by officials that the site was safe to perform on. They had authority figures informing them that it was fine... unfortunate, yes... Finally, they were not directly on top of the test site, they were actually one hundred or so miles away... combine this with a very poor understanding and no doubt the government not telling people HOW MANY nukes were tested there (It was a lot), they probably just went on to film their remarkably terrible movie anyways.

It's quite possible that paramount didn't 'fight' it so much as they went through legal proceedings in accordance to how things are done. There are a lot of lawsuits where the defendant (a company) is often not claiming they did correct, they're just there to make sure the proceeding stays fair and is based on reality and not going out of hand by NOT being there. The settlement went up to the millions, I really doubt Paramount 'fought' it so much as just made sure that all the facts were portrayed accurately.

The helicopter accident was actually filmed and can be found pretty quick with a search. If you slow it down enough, you can see them get bisected by the helicopter blades. It's gross but it is one of the darker marks on Spielberg's illustrious career. Child actors were given more rights and barred from participating in reckless stunts. The deaths were not only avoidable but was complete negligence on the part of the production as almost everything that could go wrong did.

I've seen a lot of artists use "floating islands" in their work. It's quite common for sci-fi and fantasy artists. You CAN'T claim that as you being the inspiration because I've seen closer redentitions of the floating islands from other artists. His are more Japanese inspired whereas the ones in the movie are definitely more sci-fi inspired. I've seen quite a few in sci-fi digital art from roughly 15 years ago to now.

Hedey Lamar: inventor of frequency-hopping transmission protocols. She was getting drunk with a pianist, and they were playing with a player-piano. She asked "Could the holes on the player rolls be used to tune a radio to different stations?" "Yesh" Then she asked "Would a third party, without the player rolls, make sense of what they heard listening on just one station?" "Nope" Cryptographic radio was born. The Navy and State department classified the idea right away. It's used in cell-phones and portable devices the world over. Frequency hopping can make a transmitter 'vanish' by spreading the signal out very broadly.
