What does it actually mean when cosmological radio is polarized? What is the frequency oscillation or directional axis it prefers? 3:33
@nocount7517Сағат бұрын
Probably the same thing as what happens to light in the visible spectrum.
@R.InstroСағат бұрын
Electromagnetic emissions are usually composed of photons vibrating any which way, limited only to being at 90 degrees to the line of travel. Sometimes, that light undergoes any of a number of processes which cause those vibrations to all line up in the same direction, that is, they become "polarized." Visible light reflecting off of water droplets and hard surfaces tends to be naturally polarized, which is why polarized sunglasses are effective at cutting out glare, helping us to see details in clouds, and so on. In this case 3:33 they think the radio light may have passed through or been made by a strong magnetic field, which can focus or scatter vibrating photons, resulting in the light becoming strongly polarized.

Is it possible the signal is being gated somehow? If the source is constantly producing radio waves and those waves pass by a periodic system (stars in orbit, black holes, etc.), maybe the emissions making it to our instruments are only the ones getting through the gravity of those objects.

I told everyone a couple years ago to start modulating our star to communicate with the rest of the universe. You use the thing that’s putting out the most power in our solar system and you put data on it. Manipulate the plasma enough that other civilizations can see it.
@XAirForcedotcom6 сағат бұрын
I mean, we could put some solar panels out there and send Morris code. You just changed the angle of the solar panels as it’s going around our star so that they are either blocking part of the sun or they’re not.
@XAirForcedotcom6 сағат бұрын
We just figured out how to write data on diamonds so I told them we need to work on encoding or DNA and an artificial intelligence. I told SpinLaunch today, that they will need to build one on the moon since it has less gravity, and we will swing diamonds with that information out into the the universe, and if someone finds it, they can rebuild a human if they feel like it. We don’t have to go anywhere and it will take a long time, but they’ll be able to reconstruct us. You’re not gonna wipe out humanity on my watch, even if it’s in 1 billion years with our own sun : )
@XAirForcedotcom5 сағат бұрын
@FreejackVesa We could.....if we turned the entire planets industrial output toward the task. And then hope that any of the 1000 stars within the 50 light radius of earth would see it, then hopefully they have a similar modulation plan in place, otherwise they'd have to build it, then wait X amount of years for a reply. But the kicker is that even that incredibly unrealistic plan would, at the moment, be within the most efficient forms of communication we could possibly do. Space is so not practical for intelligent life, yet.
@FreejackVesa5 сағат бұрын
Why not just use radio waves or other electromagnetic radiation? That also travels at C and it would be far easier to build a space based transmitter than blotting out the sun and modulating it with a gargantuan mirror. But what do I know.

"Signal" is absolutely the wrong word used to describe these phenomena. A signal is the transmission of information, signals have design and purpose and are meant to be understood. What is described here are simply naturally occurring emissions in the radio band. There is no intelligence behind them and there is no message.
@oldmech6193 сағат бұрын

I agree with our point. But also feel the need to say. *IF* it was aliens creating these emissions/signals. we would werry likely not knowit unless it was extraordinairly well /oddly structured. We don't know their way to communicate, language and what ever sientific terms fitting to the topic. To us their language and way to communicate might just as well seam like a completely incomprehensable mess of "noise". Yes I do believe there are intelligent life out there other than us. If it's of higher intellect or just intelligent enough to be considered sentient is of no relevance to me. But from my understanding of how things work in the universe and it's un-imaginable size. I higly doubt we will ever find it or even find remote traces of it during our existance. But one can hope, that we one day find it and that it's peacefull and want to grow along side whit us. Even tho our obvious historical flaws and deeds. One can have hopes and dreams, even if they are unrealistic. :)
