@bobbyc11208 ай бұрын
They're extremely dangerous. I knew three guys in college that had them, and all three fell off and sustained moderate injuries. One broke his wrist, and the other two were on a similar level. I rode them myself. Imagine braking on a wooden board going 20mph. The board slows down, but you still have momentum, and you're not secured to the board in any way. You have to coordinate your hand movements on the remote very carefully with your center of balance. If you slam the brakes, the board will stop but you'll keep going.
@LogicallyAnswered8 ай бұрын
Ah, this is definitely a serious concern
@ErikPelyukhno8 ай бұрын
For those who got good at riding e-boards, it’s not that hard to shift momentum to adjust for acceleration or braking. The problem is in emergency situations like rough roads or cars/ bikes getting in your path it’s not safe. One wheel is easier to ride safely since it handles bumps and easier to dismount but your point remains, people with money tend to not want to risk injuries as much.

Let's be practical. In London, where lots of cyclists get hurt every year, using a Boosted Board is risky. The roads have potholes, are tight, and there are many bikes and cars. It's not practical. Unlike electric scooters that can make sharp turns, this board can't. It's a cool idea but not practical. People feel more confident when steering with their hands.

@fantaslurp5 ай бұрын
@@BL4K_B4BIES not op but i rode boards in san fran and a lot of socal for couple of years. its true, boards cant make sharp turns unless you know how to "slide" which is really difficult. even loose trucks make it hard to turn on a dime or less. the wheels are smooth so even softer longboard wheels are susceptible to small rocks that can stop the board immediately and send you flying. skateboards are a pain in the ass. its also hard to slow the boards without using your sneakers to scrape against the ground.

Onewheel is by far safer and more superior than electric skateboards based on my experience. Electric skateboards can throw you off easily when hitting a cable or small cracks, so you’ll never feel confident going fast in non-bike specific roads due to its hard wheels. Onewheel is built to go off-road with its thick soft wide tires. Scooter is in a completely different category IMO. It’s not portable or allowing hand free usage. It’s also no where as fun. It’s good for transport only.

the whole designing a motorized skateboard from scratch is utter bs in my opinion. it definitely seems like the electronics were made from scratch, and maybe the even had their trucks and decks made custom, but really its a decent implementation for an electric longboard. anyone that would seriously redesign from the ground up would have chosen bigger wheels, with actual tires. at that point you get electric mountainboards or sth like the BajaBoard (though those tend to be more extreme/ for sports). I've ridden similar longboards for 10's of KMs one way, and at some point just stopped because road conditions just get super annoying, in Germany, Belgium and even Netherlands. you constantly have to watch out for whats on the road, how the road is doing, and if its too uneven everything just vibrates. ( i guess on only a campus with nice asphalt that works, but then it seems even more overkill)

People did call Boosted the "Apple of eBoards" - but not because they were so good. Rather because they were so expensive and the specs were so much lower than their competitors. This is why they failed - Evolve killed them with their (then) newly released GT board that cost far less, did far more (2-in-1 + AT wheels) and had ranges that exceeded Boosted by something 5-fold. Evolve are still going strong, although ironically, *they* are now called the Apple of eSkate, for the same reason - their competitors are far cheaper with far larger specs.
