I love Sebastian Cabot's voice when he narrated the early (1960s) Winnie the Pooh specials. There's a KZbin video of the song Return to Pooh Corners that ends with a bit of Cabot's narration. Wonderful video.

I remember this show fondly. My Mom got me to watch this show. She always loved it when the kids said, "Uncle Bill" HahA! It always make me sad when I learn about TV personalities I watched as a kid, succumb to addictions and other tragedies. Real life has a cruel way of making its presence known to even those who make-believe for a living. Thanks, Dave, and stay safe!

Family Affair was the quintessential family show. The plots were simple, the kids were about as innocent & naive as could be and it was just a clean show all around. No filth, no raunchiness but just good classic TV viewing. I miss Uncle Bill, French & the kids. What happened to Anissa Jones & Brian Keith was truly tragic. I wished Anissa could’ve enjoyed a full life and Brian Keith should’ve lived out his golden years in much happier times than what he did.

Thanks for posting this. I havent thought about Family Affair in a very long time. I did watch it when it was originally on even though I wasnt really a fan of the show. In those days there was only a few choices of what a person could watch on TV, not like today when there are almost too many stations.. My favorite character was Sabastian Cabot. He had a commanding presence and everyone trusted him. It was a sweet and innocent show but with challenges for the family. No one can ever forget Mrs Beasley!

Anissa had a very troubled childhood with abusive parents and once she received her residual check of $75,000 when she was 18, she emancipated herself and definitely fell into the wrong LA crowd. She might not have even gotten a residual check if it hadn't been for "Coogan's Law", put into place as a result of what happened to silent film era child superstar Jackie Coogan, who eventually gained more contemporary fame playing Uncle Fester on TV's "Addams Family". Initially, however, he was the victim of the greed, manipulation & abuse of his parents, which ultimately led to the legal battles that resulted in Coogan's Law to protect child stars from those (their parents or anyone else) who might take advantage of them (especially financially). In the silent era, his biggest claim to fame was starring with Charlie Chaplin in "The Kid".

Still remember viewing the original airings of some of the episodes, with that happy theme music and the kaleidoscopic effects. My sister and I were roughly the ages of Buffy and Jody so my parents would encourage us to watch. It was fun and as a tribute to their good parenting decision I have to say we did take away some life lessons. They just weren’t too keen about (or wealthy enough for) getting a butler. Giles French was, and to this day is, one of my favorite characters in the classic television continuum.

There was a touch of nepotism in the TV show _Family Affair_ that involved the show's creator, Don Fedderson: His son, Greg Fedderson, played the part of Sissy's love interest for 13 episodes. And while on the subject of Sissy, I recall one of the episodes where that character had to cancel social plans because she rapidly came down with a cold. I recall it vividly as it was one of the first times I recall a character on-camera in a TV show that was quickly becoming impaired from a common ailment. Kathy Garver played the part of coming down with a cold quite convincingly; especially with the changing sound of her voice.

I'd love to see you do a thing on My Three Sons. I hate to say this, Dave, but I actually got depressed when I watched Family Affair as a kid and I don't know why. I can only guess that I was saddened in my heart when you see that these kids lost their parents. A lot of emotional episodes in this show, including when Buffy lost Mrs Beasley and they were searching franically to find this doll. Mrs Beasley may not be popular with you and me, but it is explained that it was the last toy that was given to her by her late parents, so she had a hard time sleeping at night having nightmares with out the comfort of Mrs Beasley. Now that even makes me want to cry even now. And don't forget the episode called Christmas Came Early where Eve, as played by Eve Plumb, is a friend of Buffy's who is struck by an illness and is dying. I know this was a show on dealing with death, yet the kids were already dealing with the loss of their parents. Now I realize why these shows depressed me. Please forgive me but Family Affair was one of those shows I'd just would like to forget. I'd love it if you would do a My Three Sons info now that was a show that lifted my spirits. They never talked about Steve's late wife, and it had an almost Disney quality to it. You've done Leave It To Beaver, another show I loved, I'd love it if you did this show. Fred MacMurray was the dad I never had, and I'd watched this show a lot as a kid. Thank you for the info on this one though, had no idea that Kathy had voiced Fire Star. Loved Brian Keith in, as far as I am concerned the only Disney Parent Trap, which had a lot of heart with the fantastic Hayley Mills and another movie I loved him in was with Doris Day in With Six You Get Eggroll. I thought it was a better movie than Your's, Mine And Ours with Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball

A very moving tribute, as always. In 1972, Cabot played Winston Essex on the NBC series Ghost Story, where he acted as a Rod Serling-like host to introduce each episode. I remember changing the channel to NBC every Friday night at 8 CT following The Partridge Family to watch. Unfortunately not many people made the same decision, so in early '73 the title was changed to Circle of Fear and Essex's introductions were 86ed. I didn't like that. I of course blamed Producers - the bane of most shows' fans, along with axe-happy network executives - and I made other plans as the plots were vapid anyway and only reruns were left to burn off. I liked Cabot as Essex, though, a more dire version of his Satanic character in A Nice Place to Visit (The Twilight Zone, season 1, episode 28).

I remembering watching it when it first aired. Was always fan of Keith( good Jersey Boy) Disney movies and of course McKenzie Break, and the Russians are Coming.. One of his final performance was guest staring on Star Trek Deep Space 9. Part of his passing was he was in serious pain from cancer. What can I say about Cabot. He was cool character. I remember him in movies and various guest spors on tv like McCloud. Voicing in the sword and the Stonecand Jungle Book. But I remember seeing him in Checkmate. One of earliest shows I watched with my parents. He went too soon

Brian Keith played a Bounty Hunter chaseing after Billy the Kid and the Regulators in the movie "Young Guns", I loved Sabastian Cabot in many Disney animated films. He made one of his first contributions in (1963), as both the narrator and Lord Ector. Not long thereafter, he brought life to Bagheera in Jungle Book. (1967). His longest-standing role came through the Winnie the Pooh series, in which he narrated (1966), (1968), (1974), and (1977).

If you want something truly trippy, Sebastian recorded a talking version of Bob Dylan’s Like a Rolling Stone. Back in the day of course, you had people like William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy “singing” or talking to such classics as “Proud Mary”. Well not to be undone by this, Sebastian did his own thing with Rolling Stone. It’s interesting at least

There are two albums that collected these songs and more together. The “group” of pop/rock singing celebrities is called “The Golden Throats” and their album covers are parodies of first “Sgt. Pepper” and second The Stones’ “...Majesty’s Request”.

What was weird to me was when I married my ex wife back in 1989, her younger sister looked almost dead on like Kathy Garver, lol. I even once told her she looked like Sissy from Family Affair. Now, today as she is older than back then, she looks even more like Kathy Garver. She's not as old as Kathy Garver, in fact she's younger than myself and I'm in my mid 50s. I think she just turned 50 and boy does she looks like Kathy. Besides my ex sister-in-law looking like one of the cast members, I enjoyed watching Family Affair when I was younger watching only the reruns in the mid 1970s.

Memmory timelines fail me here but I may have been 16yrs old in 1976 when Anisa died. The last time she had made a headline was when she had a leg injury from being hit by a small rogue wave on a California beach. She appeared in many episodes on crutches. It is said Anisa was glad when the show ended that she'd not have to carry that doll around anymore. I had heard about her drug addiction way before her passing. I heard she was found dead in her small Florida house she shared with her brother. Some said it had to be a suicide with all the junk she had sunk into herself in one dosing. So when I looked at the article on her in 'PEOPLE' magazine & saw a photo taken of her a week or so before her passing I was stunned that l saw a beautiful young woman with a head of hair to be envious of. She DID NOT look at all like a live under an overpass drug addict. Child Stars - some thrive - some shrivel.

My favorite episode is where Buffy's friend is dying and they have christmas early for her and Buffy doesn't understand why. Not really that familiar with the Show Family Affair. I remember Johnny Whitaker mainly from Sigmund and the Sea Monsters. And I associate Sebastian Cabot more with many of the Classic Films he appeared in, like Ivanhoe and the Time Machine. I do remember reading somewhere that he was replaced on the Show by an Actor playing his Brother for awhile, because he became ill during one season.
